Chapter 12
The front door was wide open.
As I went to close it, I saw Jiang Ciyue standing by the wall, his eyes red.
My parents must have been in such a rush that they hadn’t noticed him.
From his expression, he had clearly heard everything.
He looked at me with an expression of deep pain and regret, as if he was profoundly sorry.
His lips moved, but no sound came out, as if he had lost the ability to speak.
I looked at him, my face a blank mask. My voice was strained. “You heard him. It wasn’t me who drugged you. So, Jiang Ciyue, please, just let me go.”
I slammed the door shut.
And then, I thought I heard a very faint, very soft, “I’m sorry.”
What was the point?
The hurt I had suffered wouldn’t disappear with a flimsy apology.
I wiped away a tear and thought to myself-
From this day forward, I wanted nothing to do with any of them-not my parents, and not Jiang Ciyue.
It was okay if no one loved me. I would learn to love myself.
