Deadly Affection: My Husband Wants Me Dead - Chapter 13
The moment the truth was revealed, Jiang Ciyue realized how terribly wrong he had been.
All his coldness and cruelty over the years had been directed at the wrong person.
He stood silently at her door for a long time.
So long that his legs went numb.
Finally, he drove back to the house that was supposed to be theirs.
All of her things were gone.
Staring at the empty rooms, he felt a profound sense of desolation and loneliness.
He saw the clean dining table and remembered the breakfasts she used to wake up early to make for him.
He wouldn’t even take a single bite before throwing them in the trash.
Her eyes would redden with hurt, but she would bite her lip and hold back her tears.
He saw the garment steamer in the storage room and remembered how she would iron his shirt for the next day every night before bed.
Afraid he wouldn’t wear something she had touched, she lied and said the maid did it.
It was only when the maid let it slip one day that he learned the truth.
He walked into the home theater, stared at the dark screen, and suddenly remembered a time he got up in the middle of the night and found her curled up on the sofa, watching a movie.
It was a comedy, but she was sobbing her heart out.
At the time, he had mocked her. “What is wrong with you? Can’t sleep, so you’re crying at a comedy?”
But now, Jiang Ciyue finally realized that the movie she was watching was the only one he had ever seen with her in a theater.
She wasn’t crying because of the movie.
She was crying for him.
She had loved him so much.
And he had hurt her, again and again.
She had done nothing wrong.
Yet he had slung so much mud at her.
How wronged she must have felt, how heartbroken.
Jiang Ciyue’s eyes began to burn.
His heart felt as if it had been gouged out, leaving bleeding holes.
The pain was so intense he doubled over, tears falling from his eyes.
He desperately wished he could travel back in time, to hold the Shi Wan Ju from that night.
To tell her that he was sorry, that his heart ached for her too.
And in that moment, he finally understood his own feelings.
He didn’t want a divorce, not because of pride or habit.
It was because he had fallen in love with Shi Wan Ju long ago.
But he had been blinded by lies, unable to see her goodness, unable to recognize his own heart.
And that’s what had led them to this point.
He felt a wave of despair.
How could he ever make up for the damage he had done to her?
Would she ever forgive him?
