Chapter 2
Now I truly understand the saying: ‘A starved camel is still bigger than a horse!’
The royal residence has collapsed! But Xie Yun still has money to spend.
I hate these rich people!
Xie Yun booked the best room in the inn, asked for hot water, and bathed and changed his clothes.
I waited on him hand and foot, and he casually tossed me a reward of five taels of silver.
But this guy is still wary of me!
He said he only had a little money on hand and couldn’t pay me back for redeeming him just yet.
Money for pleasure? No money to pay debts!
Fine, the debtor is the master.
He sat by the window, staring at the candlelight in silence for a long time.
I was thinking, hopefully he doesn’t get any dark ideas.
If Xie Yun dies, my debt will be a total loss.
I’d better comfort him.
“The world’s been in chaos for so long-today a prince dies, tomorrow a marquis. It’s not surprising it’s your family’s turn.
“Don’t be sad. As long as the green hills remain, there’ll always be wood to burn.
“Aren’t all those noble ladies and young misses infatuated with you?
“Later you can charm them, then bide your time and take revenge!”
I haven’t read much in my life, so I was really racking my brains to comfort him!
When I got to this point, Xie Yun finally reacted.
He’s deaf in one ear, maybe he couldn’t hear clearly, and his brows furrowed slightly.
I thoughtfully leaned closer and continued.
“Just think, at least you’re only deaf in one ear.”
I slowed my speech and went on: “If they’d broken both your arms, you’d need someone to wipe you after using the toilet-how miserable! And if your legs were broken, you’d need someone to hold you just to pee. That’s miserable too.”
Xie Yun definitely heard me!
His chest heaved, and there was a spark of life in his eyes.
Xie Yun asked me, “How did your grandfather convince my grandfather to arrange our engagement in the first place?”
I sighed and said, “Exactly! Why did my grandpa insist on this marriage? Aside from your good looks, what makes you worthy of me? Now you’re deaf in one ear, you’re even less worthy! Forget it, let’s not talk about this. I came to the capital this time to break off the engagement with you, but I didn’t expect all this to happen.”
Xie Yun stared at me for a while, his voice icy cold: “You take me to Qingzhou, then we go our separate ways.”
I rubbed my hands and said reservedly, “Qingzhou is a long way off-it’ll take at least two or three months to get there.”
Xie Yun snorted lightly: “Once we reach Qingzhou, I’ll pay you back tenfold.”
I immediately straightened up, beaming: “Forget Qingzhou, I’d take you to Huangzhou, lvzhou, or Hongzhou! Money’s not a problem-after all, you’re my fiancé.”
Hearing this, Xie Yun tossed me a silver ingot.
“If you need anything, just say the word,” I said, grinning as I held the silver.
Xie Yun only said two words: “Shut up.”
