Chapter 1
I almost knelt down to the boss!
I had exhausted all my family’s savings, scraped together everything I could, and was still short five taels of silver.
The boss rolled his eyes and said, “Why are you pretending to be something you’re not when you don’t have the money?”
I never expected Xie Yun to be so expensive!
If I’d known, I wouldn’t have insisted on saving face!
So what if people call me poor? That’s still better than actually being poor.
“Boss, why don’t you wait a bit longer? Maybe some high official or noble will come to buy him,” I hesitated.
This money was all I’d saved over the years by being stingy. I really couldn’t bear to spend it all at once.
The boss sneered, shook his head, and sighed, “The Southern Garrison Prince’s Mansion committed the grave crime of having their house confiscated and their family exterminated. The authorities put the Prince Heir up for sale at the Criminal Slave market just to torment him, to force him to die. Tsk, high officials and nobles? Even the beggars on the street avoid him.”
I turned to look.
Xie Yun sat on the cold ground in ragged clothes, his expression calm and indifferent.
He let others judge him as they pleased, not a trace of emotion on his handsome face.
The Madams were already impatiently crowding around, carefully sizing up Xie Yun.
Some even reached out to touch his face.
The boss urged impatiently, “Are you buying him or not?”
I closed my eyes, gritted my teeth, and handed over the silver notes.
After buying Xie Yun, I gave him the Slave Contract.
“Go, go, go, don’t let me see you again.” I waved him off impatiently.
It hurt so much!
I’d planned to get some benefits from the Prince’s Mansion after breaking off the engagement.
Who knew I wouldn’t get a single coin, and even lost money!
I spent the money, broke off the engagement, and the two of us should have gone our separate ways.
But Xie Yun didn’t leave. Instead, he clung to me.
He said softly, “You have to protect me.”
I shouted, “Why should I!”
Xie Yun said calmly, “I have money.”
I was silent for a moment, then put on a friendly smile. “I was a bit loud just now. Did I scare you? Don’t mind me, I’ve always had a loud voice.”
