Three Years of Silent Chase - Chapter 14
Why did I leave?
The reason wasn’t as complicated as the fans speculated.
Some said Kingsley’s mother found out about our relationship and paid me off to leave.
Others thought I left because Kingsley had a family arranged marriage.
There were even rumors that I was pregnant with Kingsley’s child and fled abroad.
The real reason was…
My parents came to S City to catch me.
Yes, catch.
As the only college student from the village.
My parents didn’t pay a penny for my tuition; they wanted me to get married, have children, and take care of my younger brother.
Countless times of beating and forcing.
In utter despair, I considered compromising!
But when I saw the nearly perfect scores on my exam papers, I couldn’t accept it!
I couldn’t accept spending my life in the mountains.
I couldn’t accept living a mediocre life like my mother.
So, after high school, I ran away.
With the two thousand yuan given by my homeroom teacher and the admission notice, I fled.
Working, enrolling, enduring the scolding, insults, and hatred when I had to call home, I took it all.
I said, “I need to study, I’ll become a big star and earn money to support you.”
But I lied.
I studied directing; I couldn’t become a big star.
I just wanted to express.
Express my full resentment and ambition towards the world.
Meeting Kingsley was an accident.
From the day I met him, I imagined our ending a thousand times.
I anticipated our separation.
I treated every day as if it were the last to love him.
Until graduation came.
I received a call from my high school homeroom teacher.
“Your brother’s wedding requires a dowry of two hundred thousand yuan, your parents have no choice but to come to S City to catch you back for marriage.”
“Sienna, run away again!”
Below was a transfer of twelve thousand yuan.
She didn’t even ask for the two thousand I returned last time.
“Thank you, teacher.”
I didn’t accept the transfer; after thanking the teacher, I powerlessly released the phone.
I thought getting into college and living diligently would change everything.
Turns out, just one phone call could shatter all my peaceful life.
I suddenly felt scared, scared that Kingsley would find out, see all my unbearable past.
What would he think?
Accept me?
Even if he accepted, what then?
After a brief acceptance, facing my vampire-like parents again and again, would he eventually become irritated, disgusted, and completely give up on me?
It shouldn’t be like this!
So I ran away.
Even if it meant losing Kingsley, I wanted to remain forever, forever as the person he liked in his eyes.
But in the three years I left, even though I studied and worked hard.
My heart remained empty.
Where once lived a person, now I had locked them out myself.
The pain invaded me every moment.
I regretted it.
I came back.
I thought as long as I was near the city where he lived, quietly watching him from afar would be enough.
Not getting close, not participating, not interfering.
But I overestimated myself.
And underestimated Kingsley’s love for me.
He caught me on the first day of the variety show filming.
I lowered my gaze, tears sliding down my face, drop by drop.
“Kingsley, I’m sorry.”
My hand tightened, and I was pulled into his embrace, then heard him crying louder than me.
“You shouldn’t say sorry, the one who should apologize is me!”
“We’ve been together for so long, and yet… I didn’t know your fears, I failed as a boyfriend.”
“Si-Si, I’m the one who made you sad.”
I was indeed sad.
But Kingsley cried so miserably, so pitifully, that I felt like laughing.
He accused with red-rimmed eyes, “You’re laughing at me!”
“For three years, I always thought I did something wrong, I thought about it day and night, during meals, in the bathroom, and yet…”
“Waah, it wasn’t me, I hate them!”
Crying, he pouted while holding my hand.
“You don’t trust me, that’s the saddest part.”
In the end, he nestled entirely in my arms.
“Si-Si, can we never be apart again?”
I raised my hand to wipe my tears.
And answered him firmly.
“We can!”
