Three Years of Silent Chase - Chapter 15
The recording for the third episode of the live show had just begun.
The breakup reason everyone online was speculating about finally surfaced.
My parents somehow caught wind of the news and brought my younger brother to block the entrance of the live recording.
In front of a crowd unaware of the situation, they began to cry and complain.
“Oh dear, our daughter, whom we raised with great effort, became a director, got a job, and found a wealthy boyfriend, but she doesn’t support her parents.”
“Exactly, even when her brother was getting married, she didn’t contribute a penny, and ended up ruining his wedding plans.”
The middle-aged couple on the ground wore simple clothes, crying pitifully with tears and snot.
Countless phones were pointed at them.
Meanwhile, I was at the recording site, watching the comments on the screen.
[Is that really the sister-in-law’s parents in the next live room? They’re saying she’s ungrateful?]
[What’s there to see? Her parents mentioned the brother’s marriage, isn’t it clear? Our sister-in-law is being exploited like a cash cow.]
[Honestly, it’s true. They’re siblings from the same mother, our sister-in-law graduated from a prestigious school as a director, why didn’t her brother graduate from one? To be frank, if it weren’t for her hard work, they might have exchanged her for dowry money long ago.]
[Sigh, do you think sister-in-law running away three years ago might have…]
[Wow! Are you really a genius or something?]
Fans spoke up for me out of love, but uninformed passersby believed the accusations and started attacking me.
[Parents are pitiful too, daughter becomes successful but doesn’t care for them, might as well have given birth to a roast pork.]
[As a daughter and sister, she should contribute to the family and take care of her brother, isn’t that expected?]
For a moment, the number of viewers for the variety show live stream skyrocketed.
It seemed popular, but the comments were all criticizing me.
Ignoring the worried looks from colleagues present, I nonchalantly completed the variety show recording.
Only after it ended did I push the door open to leave.
The family of three hadn’t left, still sitting on the ground waiting for me.
Their lips were dry from speaking ill of me.
As soon as I stepped out, my mom rushed over, crying, hitting, and scolding.
“You wretched girl, disappeared after high school graduation, never came home, for seven years, you ignored your dad and me, are you even human?”
“Exactly, your mom and I raised you with great effort, is this how university taught you to be filial? You ungrateful daughter!”
Kingsley blocked the hand aimed at me, standing in front of me, intimidating anyone who wanted to harm me.
My brother, who was about to step forward, was startled.
But greed still made him boldly threaten me.
“Don’t think just because you found a wealthy boyfriend, you can ignore me and mom and dad. I’m telling you, as a sister, you must give me money for my wedding!”
“I’m not asking for much, just give us one million… no! Three million, and we’ll agree to your marriage with him, otherwise forget it!”
My parents nodded in agreement.
I couldn’t help but laugh in anger.
“Do you think you have a say in whom I marry?”
“Your household registration is still at home, without it you can’t get married!”
My gaze swept over my dad, my mom, and my brother, whose face was full of greed.
“Watch more short videos, nowadays you don’t need a household registration to get married.”
“Besides, when I went to university, I transferred my registration to the school long ago, just to guard against you.”
More and more people started recording with their phones, the situation escalating.
But I didn’t bother to explain, simply got into the nanny car with Kingsley.
Ignoring their attempts to entangle me, I remained indifferent.
The next day, as I expected, the variety show went viral again.
