The Villain Is a Chatterbox, and I'm Mute - chapter 11
During the May Day holiday, our school had a short break, and Qin Xu insisted on dragging me home for dinner.
“My mom really likes you. She says she wants to thank you in person for tutoring me.”
I instinctively tried to refuse.
Qin Xu switched to a teasing tone: “Babe, I’m pregnant-aren’t you coming over to propose?”
“Don’t you love me anymore?”
“Were all those promises just for show?”
The student in front of us didn’t even turn around, just silently gave a thumbs up.
Me: “…Alright, you win.”
Qin Xu’s house was huge-far bigger than I ever imagined.
He led me through the garden and into the living room.
Hearing us come in, Qin’s Aunt turned her head. “Qingqing, welcome!”
“Hello, Auntie.” I gave her my most obedient smile.
“So sweet.” Qin’s Aunt looked a lot like Qin Xu. She patted my head. “Let’s eat first.”
The dining table was nearly two meters long, but only the three of us sat down.
Qin Xu’s Father never appeared.
Remembering the stories Qin Xu told me about his mom’s battles with the mistress, I kept quiet.
We finished the meal in silence.
Afterwards, Qin’s Aunt motioned for Qin Xu to go to the underground garage. “I forgot to bring up the gift I prepared for Qingqing. Go get it.”
“What gift?” Qin Xu asked as he walked away.
“You’ll see when you bring it up.”
Once Qin Xu left, only Qin’s Aunt and I remained at the table.
She looked at me kindly. “I heard you want to go to a school in the south?”
I nodded.
She sighed. “I really like you, and I hope you and Qin Xu can always be together, but…”
A wave of bitterness rose in my chest.
I forced a smile. “Auntie, what do you want to say?”
“Qin Xu’s grades have improved, but he still can’t get into a good university here.”
“His father wants him to study abroad, then come back and take over the family business.”
Study abroad… Overseas is indeed better than the south.
Qin’s Aunt looked apologetic. “I’m not an old-fashioned parent, but if Qin Xu doesn’t follow the path his father wants, he won’t get the full inheritance.”
“Auntie, I’ll persuade Qin Xu to go abroad.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t hold him back.”
Struggles in wealthy families are always like this. I get it.
“No, what I mean is you should go abroad with him.”
Qin’s Aunt explained, “You don’t need to worry about tuition or living expenses. I’ll arrange everything.”
I was stunned. “Go abroad?”
“Yes. Do you prefer the United Kingdom or the United States?”
I blinked, feeling a little dazed.
If this were a novel,
I should be told I’m not good enough for Qin Xu, and then he’d go abroad alone.
Years later, we’d meet again-or maybe never see each other…
But now, Qin’s Aunt was asking me if I wanted to go to the United Kingdom or the United States.
I took a deep breath. “I’ll do whatever you arrange, Auntie.”
I’m not the dramatic type.
With a wide, open road laid out before me, I couldn’t give it up just for pride.
Especially since Qin Xu would be walking it with me.
I didn’t want to be separated from him, even for a few years.
Qin Xu came in carrying a box and set it down in front of me.
“Come on, see what my mom prepared for you.”
Inside the box were more than a dozen property certificates.
“Auntie…” I hesitated.
Qin’s Aunt smiled warmly. “This is a welcome gift for my future daughter-in-law. There are some for here, and some for abroad.”
“Once you decide which country to go to, I’ll buy a new one for you there.”
“Go abroad?” Qin Xu was confused. “Is this for a graduation trip?”
“No, your father wants to send you abroad to study,” Qin’s Aunt explained.
Qin Xu’s face darkened and he refused flatly. “I’m not going.”
“Qingqing will go too.”
With that, Qin Xu’s mood instantly brightened.
“Really?” He grabbed my hand and shook it excitedly.
“That’s awesome! We’ll get to live together…”
“Ahem.” I interrupted him, blushing.
“But if I go abroad, I won’t be able to study medicine. What if you suddenly can’t speak again?”
Qin Xu looked inexplicably sad.
I squeezed his hand tightly. “Then you’ll just have to teach me all over again.”
