Chapter 4
From that day on, my brother loved to come and chat with me.
Mom and Dad started watching TV to learn sign language so they could understand me.
My brother sat next to me, peeling an orange for me.
Mom and Dad were very happy to see this.
Mom said with starry eyes, “Lin is such a good boy, he even knows to peel oranges for his little sister.”
“I knew adopting Yan Yan was the right choice. Look how well they get along now. Lin’s personality has become much more cheerful too.”
“It’s true. Lin used to always lock himself in his room, but now he’s willing to watch TV with us in the living room.”
My brother finished peeling the orange and held a slice to my lips with a smile.
I trembled as I opened my mouth.
He asked softly, “Is it sweet, little sister?”
I fought the urge to run away and managed a stiff nod.
“You don’t look very happy. Is it too sour? I’ll peel you a new one.”
I shook my head frantically, forcing a smile.
[Hahaha, the poor baby’s smile looks so forced.]
[Brother is so mischievous. Ever since he found out she can talk, he’s been trying all sorts of tricks to make her speak.]
[Mom and Dad are just now realizing that their son is talking.]
[Mom is so happy she’s pinching Dad’s thigh purple.]
I left a note saying I was tired and stumbled upstairs to my room.
I… I’m so scared of my brother.
But I can’t bear to leave such a wonderful Mom and Dad.
They cook delicious food for me, buy me pretty clothes, and are even learning sign language just for me.
They are always so patient, always encouraging me.
It’s as if… I’m also worthy of being loved this much.
So many times, I’ve worried that this is all a dream.
I buried my face in my pillow.
Even if it’s just for one more second.
I don’t want to wake up.
