Chapter 3
Even though my brother didn’t seem to like me.
This meal was truly delicious.
How could it be! Every single dish! Was so good!
I was a little reserved at first, only daring to eat a little bit of the side dishes and mostly sticking to my rice.
But Mom and Dad kept putting more food into my bowl.
“Honey, Yan Yan is so cute when she eats, like a little hamster.”
“I know, right? It’s so satisfying to watch, it’s making me hungry too.”
“Hehe, I’m going to take a picture and send it to that moody kid. This level of cuteness will be the end of him.”
“I’m going to send it to the family group chat and make them all jealous!”
The thought that I might be sent away tomorrow…
And that I would never get to eat such delicious food again…
I swallowed my sadness, grabbed a big chicken leg, and started eating with all my might!
That night, lying in a soft, fragrant bed.
I burped contentedly.
As I was drifting off to sleep, my eyes fluttered open for a moment.
In the moonlight, I saw a small black snake by my pillow. It must have slithered in from somewhere and was now lifting its head, looking at me curiously.
My face went pale, and I dove under the covers, trembling.
A bullet comment drifted by.
[Hehe, is the male lead trying to scare the supporting character away?]
[The male lead’s true form is a snake. He was hurt by bad humans as a child, which made him gloomy and withdrawn, refusing to even speak.]
[The supporting female character is completely useless. She wanted to get on the male lead’s good side, but the moment she saw his true form, she burst into tears.]
[If the female lead hadn’t been chosen by a couple who couldn’t have children a few days earlier, the supporting character never would have had this chance.]
[It’s okay, once the supporting character gets returned by the parents, it’ll be our hyper, troublemaking female lead’s turn to shine, hahaha~]
I trembled even more.
The bullet comments meant-
This… this snake…
Is my brother?
Director, I want to go home!!!
At breakfast.
I was on edge.
My brother never showed up, even after the meal was over.
My tense nerves finally started to relax.
I racked my brain for ways to avoid seeing him.
Even going to the bathroom was a stealth mission; I would only go when I absolutely couldn’t hold it anymore.
First, I’d crack the door open to make sure he wasn’t around, then I’d tiptoe out.
After I was done, I’d sprint back to my room at top speed.
Lying on my bed, I wiped the nervous sweat from my forehead.
Phew, that was close.
I didn’t see the snake.
To prevent my brother from slithering under the door again,
I started blocking the gap with books before bed and always kept the window tightly shut.
I managed to lay low for several days without running into my brother.
I quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
But we were living under the same roof; this couldn’t go on forever.
Sure enough, a few days later, Mom and Dad brought my brother to me.
To show family affection and closeness, they practically forced my brother to give me a hug.
My face turned red, but I couldn’t refuse.
Partly because I couldn’t speak, and partly because I didn’t want to hurt Mom and Dad’s feelings.
Mom and Dad stood at the bottom of the stairs, smiling with anticipation.
At their urging, my brother walked up the stairs with a blank expression, bent down, and opened his arms to me.
I trembled, so scared that I blurted out, “N-no…”
My brother’s eyes suddenly lit up.
He looked at me for a long time, as if he’d discovered something interesting.
Then he leaned in and whispered in my ear.
His voice was a little hoarse, as if he hadn’t spoken in a long time. “You can talk?”
I clamped my mouth shut and shook my head frantically.
He looked at me, a strange light flashing in his eyes.
The bullet comments were stunned.
[I’m as shocked as the male lead. The supporting character can talk?]
[Then why hasn’t she said anything until now?]
[Did you guys forget? The supporting character could always talk, she just couldn’t speak due to a psychological block.]
[Her mother had her out of wedlock and remarried. Afraid her new husband would find out about the child, she secretly raised her in the basement and forbade her from making any sound.]
[One time, she was scared by a rat and cried out. When the man found out, he angrily left her mother.]
[The mother resented her, blaming her for ruining the happiness she had fought so hard for, so she abandoned her at the orphanage.]
[The supporting character never spoke another word after that. She always believed that was the reason her mother didn’t want her.]
[The supporting character is a very pitiful baby, too.]
Reading the comments, I lowered my head.
My nose tingled, and my eyes stung.
But I held it in.
