The Little Spoiled Brat Divorces with a Child, Driving the Big Boss Crazy - Chapter 77
Chapter 77
So he had agreed, however reluctantly.
But Jin Beizhou had one condition for moving out within two days: Lu Ying had to take the Peace Buckle.
Lu Ying had a condition of her own. “Take off your wedding ring.”
“One divorce and you’ve turned into a fascist.” Jin Beizhou was annoyed. “First you tell me where I can live, then you tell me what I can wear. Why don’t we just get remarried?”
Once they were remarried, she could control him however she pleased. If she told him to wear trousers, he would never dare put on a robe instead.
“If you live here, I’m the one being spied on,” Lu Ying retorted. “And my name is engraved inside your wedding ring!”
Why shouldn’t she be allowed to make demands?
Jin Beizhou said, “Why don’t I call my lawyer over and have him explain the concept of property ownership to you?”
“…Get lost.”
“This is my front door.”
Lu Ying choked.
After a half-second pause, she turned and walked away.
Jin Beizhou followed at his leisure, looking entirely at ease.
“This is my home,” Lu Ying said. “Get lost.”
“I didn’t go inside.” Jin Beizhou’s tone was positively infuriating. “The hallway belongs to all the property owners.”
“Has no one ever told you what a shameless bastard you are?”
Jin Beizhou raised a brow. “Don’t you tell me all the time? But I know a slap is a kiss and a scolding is affection. Whether Princess Lu gives me thunder or rain, it’s all a royal favor…”
“I’m not keeping this baby.”
“…”
He wilted in an instant.
At last, Lu Ying’s ears had some peace. She went inside, and Auntie Zhang asked what she would like for lunch and dinner.
Lu Ying thought for a moment. “Anything is fine for lunch. Let’s have a barbecue in the courtyard tonight. Xiaxia is coming over.”
“All right.”
Auntie Zhang had been gone for only a few minutes when she returned with a helpless expression, Feibao in her arms.
Feibao was carrying Lu Ying’s Peace Buckle in its mouth.
It was as if, should she refuse to accept it, a certain shameless dog of a man had plenty of other ways to make her.
Lu Ying seethed. She took the Peace Buckle and tossed it into the very bottom of a drawer.
Since Feibao had come over in broad daylight, Lu Ying openly kept it with her.
Jin Beizhou did not come looking for it all afternoon.
Perhaps he had grown tired of raising it and no longer intended to fight her for it.
When Lu Ying woke from her nap, Auntie Zhang came over carrying Feibao, who had rolled through muddy water. She looked resigned. “I was watering the vegetable garden, and it insisted on rolling around in it. It flattened all the seedlings that just sprouted.”
Feibao was far too filthy to be allowed inside.
Lu Ying laughed. “I’ll take it for a bath, then stop by the supermarket for a few barbecue supplies.”
“All right.” Auntie Zhang clipped a leash onto Feibao. “We have everything at home. Just buy some chopsticks, and don’t carry anything heavy.”
“Okay.”
Next door was completely quiet. No one came out, so the owner probably was not home.
There were no pet stores near Caotang. Lu Ying walked a little farther with Feibao and spotted one around the corner from the produce market.
She only needed to have the dog bathed. Any shop would do.
The pet store had no customers and was quite idle, so there was no line.
“There’s a supermarket nearby. You can go browse for a while,” the employee said warmly. “The bath should be finished by the time you get back.”
Lu Ying replied gently, “It’s fine. I’ll wait here.”
“It won’t be that quick. I’m worried you’ll get impatient.”
“I don’t mind.”
The smile on the employee’s face seemed to disappear in an instant. “Ma’am, the thing is, pets are like children. When their owners are present, they tend not to behave…”
“…” Lu Ying looked at her. “Our Feibao is timid. It’s used to having someone with it and can’t manage a bath alone.”
This was another bad habit Jin Beizhou had spoiled it into.
The employee shrugged, adopting a take-it-or-leave-it attitude. “Then we can’t bathe it here.”
Realizing something, Lu Ying held out her hand. “Then forget it.”
She had never owned a pet before, but Yan Xia had. During one of their conversations, Yan Xia had mentioned that some pet stores secretly abused animals whenever their owners were absent.
Lu Ying had always believed that she could discipline her own pet, but no one else was allowed to.
The employee handed the leash back. Perhaps she was angry, because the motion was almost a throw.
Lu Ying was not the sort to swallow an insult, but she was pregnant and had Feibao with her. Deciding that avoiding trouble was better than inviting it, she chose to let the matter go just this once.
But just as she reached the door, she heard the employee mutter, “She really treats that dog like her son. Maybe the kid in her belly was fathered by a dog too.”
Lu Ying stopped dead.
She turned around and enunciated, “Say that again.”
“…” The employee shrugged. “What? I didn’t say anything.”
“If you dare do it, you’d better dare own up to it!”
“Tsk.” The employee looked utterly unconcerned. “Pregnant women are so sensitive. I didn’t say anything. Please leave.”
Lu Ying stood where she was. “Why do you hate pregnant women so much? Was your mother infertile, and were you born without a uterus?”
“…” The employee’s expression changed. “I’m calling the police.”
“What? I didn’t say anything.”
“We have security cameras!”
“Perfect.” Lu Ying even walked back into the store. “Call them. I’d love to find out what breed of creature your mother produced after mating with an animal.”
The employee’s voice turned shrill. “Don’t cause trouble, I’m warning you. Don’t think that just because you’re pregnant…”
“Tsk.” Lu Ying spoke rapidly, cutting her off. “What a sensitive little beast. I didn’t say anything.”
Unable to take the provocation, the employee shrieked and lunged at her.
Lu Ying turned sideways to avoid her and sneered. “Lay one finger on me, and I’ll send your subhuman ass straight into the sewer!”
The other employees hurried to restrain their coworker.
“Ma’am, please just go. It won’t be good for you either if this gets out of hand, right?”
“Apologize!” Lu Ying demanded.
“…”
“I can stomach anything except being wronged!”
One of the other employees tried to smooth things over. “We’re so sorry. She just got divorced and she’s in a bad mood. Please accept our apology.”
Lu Ying cast them a cold glance, then left with Feibao.
As though she were the only person who had ever gotten divorced.
By evening, only a few wispy clouds drifted across the sky. Lu Ying held Feibao’s leash in one hand and a shopping bag in the other. As the wind brushed her face, a sudden rush of humiliation stung her eyes.
She could not hold back her tears.
She did not even know why she was crying. She had not lost. Hadn’t she won that argument? What was there to cry about?
But the more she told herself that, the harder her tears fell, as though she had suffered some unbearable injustice.
Feibao trotted ahead for a couple of steps, then carefully looked up at her and nudged her ankle with its nose.
Lu Ying cried even harder.
Passersby on both sides kept turning to stare at the strange scene.
At some point, hands gripped Lu Ying’s shoulders. Her tear-blurred vision was suddenly filled by a man’s anxious face.
“What happened?” Jin Beizhou asked frantically, wiping her tears away with his palm. “Why are you standing here crying?”
Hu Chuang was beside him, both hands laden with bags of fruits and vegetables. They were probably here to shop at the market.
Lu Ying tried hard to suppress her emotions, but an uncontrollable sob escaped her throat.
“Little sister,” Hu Chuang said helplessly, “please don’t cry. Who bullied you?”
Jin Beizhou wiped away her tears, then lowered his gaze to Feibao.
The fur that was usually so sleek and glossy was caked with dried mud.
Jin Beizhou’s voice deepened. “Did something happen at the pet store?”
It was easy enough to deduce. Feibao was so dirty that Lu Ying must have brought it here to find a pet store and have it bathed, and there was only one pet store in the area.
Yet Feibao clearly had not been bathed, and Lu Ying was already heading back toward Caotang.
That left only one possibility.
Something unpleasant had happened along the way.
Jin Beizhou rubbed her head, then bent down and took Feibao into his arms without caring how dirty it was. He said evenly, “Wait here with Brother Hu Chuang. Second Brother will go settle this for you.”
