Chapter 13
The earlier alcohol buzz instantly dissipated. I was much more sober. Song Jinnian leaned sideways, his gaze passing over Jiang Yi to me. “I finished my overseas courses early.”
I acknowledged him with a “Congratulations.”
He frowned and emphasized, “I won’t be leaving the country this time. I’ve already started an internship at a big company, and if all goes well, I’ll be a full-time employee soon. The company is right next to your school, which is very convenient-”
I interrupted him. “What do you mean by ‘convenient’?”
Song Jinnian looked at my aggressive tone, wanting to take my hand, but I deliberately avoided him. Song Jinnian handed me the gift bag he was holding. “This is a gift I brought for you.”
It was a Tiffany necklace. In my freshman year, during our long-distance relationship, I had once playfully asked him to buy it for me abroad. Times had changed, and the meaning was gone. Now, the best person had already appeared.
Song Jinnian added, “What I mean is,”
“If possible, meeting would be very convenient. We wouldn’t have to be separated by a Pacific Ocean and time zones anymore.”
Jiang Yi turned his head to look at me. I happened to look up too. Jiang Yi’s eyes were red again, clearly feeling wronged but trying to hide it. He looked pitiful, truly like a little puppy wagging its tail at its owner.
A smile touched my lips. The warmth on my lips felt like it hadn’t faded yet. I linked my arm through Jiang Yi’s. I smiled at Song Jinnian. “Inconvenient.”
I took Jiang Yi’s hand and waved it in front of Song Jinnian. “I forgot to answer your question.”
“Jiang Yi.”
“He’s my boyfriend.”
