The Cat Who Saves the World - Chapter 8
Chapter 8
The new Human Trafficker has been looking at me with a strange glint in his eyes lately, and it makes my fur stand on end every time.
The Bearded Man warned him, “If you dare look at my kitten again, I’ll kill you.”
He replied timidly, “I wouldn’t dare, I wouldn’t dare.”
An animal’s alertness is several times that of a human, and I’ve felt that the Human Trafficker has been acting a bit odd lately.
According to the Gloomy Man, the Human Trafficker is suffering from a very serious illness and doesn’t have much longer to live.
Everyone thinks he deserves it; no one feels any sympathy for him.
When a man is about to die, his words are kind-or so they say.
As he grew paler by the day, the people in the prison stopped bullying him and mostly just ignored him.
I never expected him to be a hidden demon.
That night, I was woken up by a delicious aroma. I nudged the Bearded Man; I was hungry.
He was snoring away, sleeping so soundly that I didn’t have the heart to wake him.
The cell was relatively large for me, and I could jump out. Following the scent, I saw a hand holding a piece of dried fish.
Dried fish is just too, too, too irresistible for a kitty!
I meowed excitedly.
Looking up, I suddenly saw the owner of that hand. It was the Human Trafficker, wearing a crazed and perverted smile on his face.
I swallowed hard and backed away.
“Come here, good kitty. Come to uncle and eat some dried fish.”
I lunged forward and gave him a scratch. A cat’s reaction speed is much faster than a human’s.
He cried out in pain.
“Come on, come over and eat the fish,” he continued to coax me.
It smelled so good. For some reason, I couldn’t resist the drive of my instincts. I took one step forward, then two…
He suddenly threw the fish away and reached out both hands to grab me.
Hehe, tricked you! I never actually intended to go over there.
I quickly darted away, snatched the dried fish in my mouth, and triumphantly wiggled my butt at him.
His true colors were revealed as he began to curse, “Dead cat! You little beast, I’ll kill you! If I can’t kill that Bearded Man, you think I can’t kill you?”
As he spoke, he frantically threw things at me while I jumped around to dodge them.
Oh no. If I had known, I would have tried to lose some weight. I can barely jump.
He acted as if he were possessed by madness, and he soon woke up the nearby prisoners. The Bearded Man woke up too, and I heard him calling for me:
“Jiaojiao? Jiaojiao, where are you?”
I hurriedly responded, “Meow-”
The Human Trafficker shouted louder and louder, “Dead cat! I’ll crush you to death! I’ll crush you!”
The Bearded Man began pounding frantically on the iron bars. “Jiaojiao! Come back! Come to Daddy!”
The noise quickly drew the guards. The Officer dragged the Human Trafficker out and gave him a piece of his mind.
Then, he picked me up-a fat orange cat-by the scruff of my neck and returned me to the Bearded Man.
After figuring out what had happened, the Officer even gave my butt a little smack.
“That’s what you get for being greedy! You’re so gluttonous, you’d dare take things from anyone?”
I looked to the Bearded Man for help, using my long-lost high-pitched ‘cutesy’ voice.
To my surprise, he remained unmoved. He simply said, “Serves you right! Why are you so gluttonous? Do I not feed you enough?”
Out of ten orange cats, nine are fat, and the last one is a bed-breaker.
This is a racial talent; can you really blame me?
After the punishment was over, the Bearded Man asked, “Is she hurt?”
The Officer sighed. “She’s too fat to jump. It looks like she got hit on the neck. I’m not sure if anything’s wrong.”
The Gloomy Man said with a smile, “Sorry to trouble you, Officer, but why don’t you shave the fur where she was hit? Just to check for injuries.”
The men looked at each other and burst out laughing.
A day later, I was sent back with a ring of fur missing from my neck.
I looked ridiculous and pathetic.
I became depressed.
Kitty depression.
The Bearded Man tried to pick me up, but I shoved him away with my rear.
He was amused. “You’ve got an attitude now? Do you still dare to sneak out at night for food? Do you still dare to eat things from bad people?”
I turned my head away and refused to look at him.
“Strong Brother, look, Jiaojiao has a birthmark on her neck. It’s quite cute.” The Gloomy Man gave me a piece of dried fish to suck up to me.
I let out a meow and ate the fish, but I still wouldn’t look at him. Don’t think this kitty doesn’t know-you’re the wicked one who told the Officer to shave me.
Suddenly, the Bearded Man froze. A bunch of cat snacks fell from his hands to the floor as he burst into loud wailing.
When a man over two meters tall cries, his voice is louder than anyone else’s, and his tears are bigger too.
He sobbed intermittently, “My daughter… my daughter Jiao… she had that same birthmark on her neck.”
Silence fell over the area. Some of the tough men began to wipe away tears.
Everyone had heard about the Bearded Man’s past; they sympathized with him, pitied him, and admired him.
Scarface started crying along with him. “My Little Tabby, this is so moving. Are you also an old friend who came back to find me? You wouldn’t… you wouldn’t be my mother, would you?”
“Mother! I know I was wrong! I’ll never commit petty crimes again. Once I get out of prison, I’ll definitely turn over a new leaf and be a better man!”
Little Tabby was held in Scarface’s arms, looking like she had completely lost the will to live.
