The Cat Who Saves the World - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
By the time the Gloomy Man and I returned, the Human Trafficker had been beaten so badly that there wasn’t a single patch of healthy skin left on him.
Just then, the Officers rushed in, slamming their batons on the tables and shouting, “What’s all this fighting? Who gave you permission to brawl? Break it up! Everyone, disperse!”
The crowd scattered instantly.
In prison, a Human Trafficker is like a rat crossing the street-anyone who’s in a bad mood can give him a couple of kicks.
The most grueling part for him was being pulled out every day by the Officers for private interrogation.
I heard the Gloomy Man say that the reason human traffickers aren’t immediately sentenced to death is because they’ve abducted so many people; the priority is to rescue those victims first.
Every day, the Human Trafficker was interrogated relentlessly about where the women he kidnapped had been sold.
After enduring the mental devastation from the Officers, he would return to the cell only to be brutally beaten by his cellmates. Before he arrived, Bucktooth, the rapist, was at the bottom of the prison hierarchy, bullied by everyone. But since the trafficker’s arrival, Bucktooth’s status had risen. In fact, Bucktooth was the one who beat him the most viciously.
Neither of them was any good.
They could suffer all they wanted; as for me, I was just a Piggy Cat.
It was visible to the naked eye that I was a circle wider than the other five cats. Everyone who saw me would reach out for a pat and remark, “Strong Brother, it’s time to put Jiaojiao on a diet.”
The Bearded Man was becoming more and more cheerful. He even joked with his fellow inmates now: “What are you talking about? Our Jiaojiao just has a lot of fur. She’s not fat, right, Jiaojiao?”
Whenever he said that, I would cooperate perfectly with a “Meow.”
Whatever you say is right.
“Is it Jiaojiao’s turn to sit on my head today?”
“Nonsense, I was first.”
“Jiaojiao is getting bigger and bigger. She must be nearly twenty pounds by now, right?”
The Gloomy Man replied, “Yeah, she’s fifteen pounds. She can’t stand on top of a head anymore; she can only crouch on a shoulder.”
It was time for our physical check-up again that evening. The Officers were especially gentle today. Not only did they give us delicious food, but they also took us out to play.
Who would have thought that as soon as we went out, all five of us cats fainted?
When I woke up again, I heard the only male cat among the five of us crying.
He was a black cat with big, round, amber eyes. “Waaaah, my balls are gone!”
He blended into the night, and even the moon seemed to weep for him.
I felt like I was missing something too, but that vague sense of irritability in my body had vanished.
I rested my paw on the black cat’s back to comfort him. “It’s okay. It’s just two little balls!”
He turned his head away. “You don’t understand. You don’t understand anything. This is the dignity of a male cat!”
The Tabby Cat sighed, looking up at the sky at a forty-five-degree angle with a melancholy expression. “As for me, I was born without balls.”
The black cat was wearing an Elizabeth collar, making him look like a noble lady. “It’s okay, I won’t look down on you.”
The Tabby Cat always called me stupid, but I think it’s the stupidest one.
Female cats aren’t supposed to have balls in the first place!
However, the black cat was instantly comforted, and the two cats huddled together, meowing.
The silly calico cat started crying too. “I miss my owner. Why haven’t they sent me back yet?”
The other calico cat had a fiery temper. “Why miss those poop-scoopers? We are noble cats!”
“Little Orange, speak up! Do you miss your owner too?”
“That’s my daddy! And my name is Jiaojiao, not Little Orange,” I snapped.
After being kept away for two days, the Officers finally sent us back.
It was noon, and everyone was eating. The five of us cats suddenly leaped into the cafeteria.
That ill-tempered calico meowed, “How bold! You dare to start the meal while I’m away? Poop-scooper, I’ll fart and choke you to death!”
The silly calico dove straight into its owner’s arms, letting out a pitiful “Meow~ meow~.”
A baby voice! Despicable!
The tallest one was my daddy. He ran toward me and reached out his hands.
I took a sudden leap. Eh? I hit his knees?
Impossible. I lowered my front half, stuck my butt up, and wiggled my tail. This time, I would definitely land in the Bearded Man’s arms. I took a powerful leap and actually landed in his embrace.
Immediately after, my jaw dropped. It turned out the Bearded Man had proactively squatted down to catch me.
This was impossible. Where was my jumping ability?
“There, there, Jiaojiao. It’s okay if you can’t jump high. As long as you can eat, it’s fine.”
The entire cafeteria erupted in cheerful laughter.
How cruel! You’re building your happiness on a little kitten’s pain. Doesn’t your conscience hurt?
“Meow meow meow!”
The room was filled with high-pitched baby voices. The men lowered their tones and pinched their throats to mimic us: “Meow~”
What were they doing?
What were they saying?
It was the kind of thing that would make me wake up in the middle of the night and think, “No, seriously, are they mentally ill?”
When humans start using baby voices, there’s really nothing left for us cats to do.
