The Cat Who Saves the World - Chapter 9
Chapter 9
This was the first grand confession since the prison was built, and many inmates fell to their knees.
“I committed financial crimes. My parents died when I was little, and I was so tired and scared of being poor. As I grew up, all I cared about was money. I just wanted to live a good life. I’m a bastard! If my parents were still alive, they would’ve scolded me to death.”
“I killed someone. I killed a bratty kid. He spat in my face, and I just lost control. I have the XYY syndrome-I’m naturally aggressive. I shouldn’t have been born at all…”
Of course, half of them were rotten to the core and would never repent.
But the Officer said that a kitty’s job is to provide warmth to those who are hurting and to help those who have strayed find their way back. I think I’ve done it.
The Gloomy Man patted the Bearded Man’s shoulder and said with a light chuckle, “Strong Brother, are you still willing to let me adopt Jiaojiao after I’m released?”
My eyes widened. What? So that wasn’t a dream the other day?
“Meow, meow meow meow!” I cried out.
Daddy, I don’t want to leave you.
“Jiaojiao came here specifically for you. How could you have the heart to be separated from her again?”
The Bearded Man hugged me tightly.
The Human Trafficker died. Before he passed, the Officer told him one last piece of good news:
“The three hundred-plus women you trafficked have all been rescued. Many of them had children with their buyers, but they still resolutely took their children and returned to their own homes.”
“Those buyers were furious. You took their money, and now both the women and children are gone. So, they broke into your house last night and killed your woman and child.”
The Human Trafficker’s eyes bulged in horror, and he struggled to breathe.
“Don’t worry. We police serve the country and the people. We will definitely find the criminals who killed your woman and child.”
He drew his last breath in a state of frantic resentment and indignation. Waiting for him would be King Yama’s Eighteen Levels of Hell.
A year later, the Gloomy Man was released from prison. He stood in the sunlight, ready to embrace his new life.
As for me, this kitty is still working in the prison, staying by the Bearded Man’s side.
The Bearded Man is getting older, and the Officer’s supervision of him has become much more relaxed. It feels more like he’s in a retirement home now; he’s happy every day and occasionally plays chess with the guards.
I heard that the Gloomy Man lost his old job, but he moved to a different city and opened a new hospital. His career is flourishing.
He often comes to visit us, bringing a large bag of clothes and snacks for me every time.
Look, here he comes again.
Now nearing forty, he looks even more gentle and refined. He reached through the glass to pat my head. “Jiaojiao has grown again.”
The Bearded Man looked incredibly proud. “Ha! She’s my daughter. She takes after me. Maybe she’ll even play basketball in the future.”
The two of them burst into laughter.
“Aren’t you going to find a partner out there? Just going to live alone?” the Bearded Man asked.
“I don’t want to. I’m disillusioned with people, and I have no interest in women. I still love our little Jiaojiao the most. Right, little Jiaojiao?”
I cooperated with a loud “Meow!”
Side Story
A new youth has entered the prison. He’s so young, but he’s surrounded by an aura of deathly stillness.
The Officer said the boy had been a victim of long-term school bullying and had ended up killing his tormentor in retaliation.
I see. I have work to do.
“Meow~ Meow~” I chirped in a high-pitched voice as I walked toward the boy. Behind me, my daddy, the Bearded Man, sat by his sewing machine and watched me with a smile.
Even in prison, as long as you’re here, it’s home.
