SOLD to My Ex: A Forbidden Service Contract - Chapter 5
I threw an elbow back at him. “Zhou Yan, did you fry your brain with that fever?”
“It’s my heart that’s fried, not my brain.” He shamelessly stuck to me, his voice even holding a hint of grievance. “It’s been three years. Don’t you miss me at all?”
“I miss wanting to beat you to death.” I pushed him away and fled back to my room. “Don’t forget you hired a housekeeper, not a family member.”
“I hired ‘customized services’,” he chuckled menacingly from outside the door. “Look at the contract. It’s the person that’s included, not the labor.”
I yelled back through the crack in the door, “I’ll include you too, then! Wait for the court summons for illegal confinement!”
Slam. The door shut. I slid down against it, my hands still shaking.
He was too close just now. I could even feel the heat from his body.
What was I afraid of? I was a chatterbox champion, a food delivery warrior, a three-in-one embodiment of the work ethic. How could I be scared of this crazy bastard?
But my heart was pounding… not exactly like a victor’s.
The next morning, I decided to stand up for my rights. I went to the kitchen in my pajamas, with my hair a mess, to negotiate with him.
As soon as I walked in, I saw Zhou Yan wearing an apron, feeding the cat, with the cat food arranged in a beautiful platter.
“You’re even this meticulous when feeding a cat?” I asked casually.
“There are no pets in this house,” he said, turning to look at me. “I’m only raising you.”
My mouth twitched. “Bro, can you not say perverted things in such a refreshing way?”
He clapped his hands and stood up, extending his hand towards me. “Contract, second clause. It’s breakfast time. Come on, sit on my lap.”
“I have my own legs!”
“But my legs are expensive.”
“And your life is cheap.”
“Your words are rough.”
“And your brain is damaged.”
Zhou Yan watched my stubbornness and suddenly smiled. He didn’t pull his hand back, but instead reached over and straightened my hair.
“Song Yu,” he said in a low voice, “are you afraid of me?”
I froze, not having a chance to react before he took a step closer, his tone slightly serious. “You’re afraid of falling for me again, aren’t you?”
The air seemed to freeze at that moment.
My brain short-circuited. It took me a while to say, “I’m afraid you’ll send me to a mental hospital.”
He laughed. “Don’t worry, I’ll check myself in first. A double room, I’ll save a bed for you.”
I was going crazy. I turned and walked away.
As I left, he casually added, “Remember to come back for the movie tonight. It’s The Ex-File 3.”
You son of a bitch, making me watch a sad movie.
At 8:59 PM, I stood at the door, hesitating for a full minute.
Go in, and I’d be acting in a play with a mad dog; don’t go in, and a starving worker would have a hard time paying off her debts.
I gritted my teeth and went in. As soon as I sat down, I saw a box of pills next to him.
“Are you sick?” I asked, looking at him warily.
He looked nonchalant. “No, I just haven’t been sleeping well lately.”
I glanced at the name of the medicine. Sleeping pills. “You have anxiety?” I couldn’t help but ask. “Why don’t you see a therapist?”
He glanced at me, his eyes like a blade grazing my throat. “I get anxious when I see you, and agitated when I don’t.”
“…You’re beyond the help of any therapist.”
He suddenly stood up, threw the pill box in the trash, and walked towards me step by step, his voice low. “Then are you willing… to stay and sleep with me?”
I gasped, about to run for it, but he just smiled faintly. “Don’t worry, I mean just sleeping. Even if you don’t sleep, I won’t touch you.”
“Don’t even try!”
He took a step back and raised his hands in surrender. “Really. If you don’t believe me, I’ll sleep on the floor tonight.”
Just as I was about to give in, he suddenly whispered in my ear, “But if you snore in your sleep… I’ll hold you and help you adjust your frequency.”
“Zhou Yan, go to hell!!!”
But before I went back to my room, he threw out another line, “Song Yu, have you ever thought… that we never actually broke up.”
I froze. He was backlit by the light, his expression hidden in the shadows, but he was no longer joking. “Three years ago, I let you go. Now, I want to pull you back.”
