Six Years Later: Wrecking His World with Quadruplets - Chapter 181
Chapter 181
As soon as Di Shijing spoke, both Nan Zhiyi and her son glanced at him.
Xianxian thought to himself: I actually know how to do that!
Back when they were abroad, whenever Nan Zhiyi got busy, she would often lose track of time and couldn’t look after the two little ones. When Mumu was being naughty and refused to eat, it was always Xianxian, as the older brother, who fed her.
However, Nan Zhiyi couldn’t say that out loud.
Looking at the food the man held out to her lips, Nan Zhiyi felt uncomfortable. She didn’t eat it, turning her head away in refusal. “I can do it myself.”
The two of them clearly had no relationship anymore; this act of feeding was far too intimate.
She freed one hand, intending to take the chopsticks from him.
However, Di Shijing did not let her have her way. Not only did he pull back to avoid her hand, but he moved the food even closer to her lips, commanding in a tone that brooked no argument, “Open up.”
His attitude was so firm and overbearing that it was clear he would keep trying to feed her as long as she refused to eat.
Nan Zhiyi felt a headache coming on. Why hadn’t she realized before that this man was so persistent?
Left with no choice, Nan Zhiyi had to open her mouth, and the food on the chopsticks was quickly delivered inside.
The meal was eaten in an awkward atmosphere.
Standing nearby, Zhou Yi felt like he was going to be blinded by the display of affection. At the same time, he couldn’t help but think that this was what a happy family of four should look like.
After dinner, Zhou Yi cleared away the lunch boxes.
Nan Zhiyi remained sitting on the sofa, holding Mumu without moving an inch.
“Put the child on the bed so you can rest for a bit,” Di Shijing said softly.
Nan Zhiyi shook her head. “It’s fine.”
If the little girl woke up and saw that she wasn’t there, she would be upset.
“Then let me hold her. You can head back first.”
Di Shijing meant that he didn’t want to delay her work. After all, besides her role at Di Corporation, Nan Zhiyi was also Aletta’s assistant.
Nan Zhiyi hesitated. She was reluctant to let go, but Di Shijing had already leaned over to take the child into his arms.
However, as he tried to take her, Mumu seemed to have a premonition; her tiny hand tightly gripped Nan Zhiyi’s clothes and refused to let go.
Knowing the girl lacked a sense of security, Nan Zhiyi’s heart immediately softened. She pulled the child back into a tight embrace. “I’ll just keep holding her.”
Di Shijing had no choice but to turn his gaze toward his son.
“I’ll have Zhou Yi take you back first.”
Xianxian, hearing his name, immediately shook his head in refusal. “I’m not going back. I’m worried about my sister. I’ll wait here.”
As he spoke, he climbed onto the sofa with his short legs and sat down beside Nan Zhiyi, obediently reading a book.
Seeing this, Di Shijing stopped trying to make him leave.
However, around nine o’clock that night, Mumu’s temperature showed signs of rising again. The little girl was very uncomfortable, whimpering and fussing in her mommy’s arms.
Nan Zhiyi felt her forehead, her brow furrowing. “The child is running a fever again.”
“I’ll go get the doctor.”
Hearing this, Di Shijing immediately stood up from the sofa, ready to rush out of the ward.
“Just ask them to bring some rubbing alcohol so I can wipe her down to lower her temperature,” Nan Zhiyi called out.
Seeing Di Shijing’s confused expression, she explained, “The child is still young; she can’t be on an IV drip constantly. It’s just a fever; even if the doctors come, this is what they’ll do.”
Hearing Nan Zhiyi’s explanation, Di Shijing nodded. He instructed Zhou Yi to get the alcohol and necessary supplies while he went to get some warm water.
Nan Zhiyi placed Mumu on the bed and took the towel Di Shijing handed her. With practiced, gentle movements, she carefully wiped the child’s body.
She did everything herself, leaving Di Shijing with no way to help, so he simply stood by and watched her.
He had the strange illusion that this woman was exceptionally familiar with his daughter.
While his mind wandered, Nan Zhiyi finished wiping the child’s body and dressed her.
Knock, knock-
Suddenly, there was a knock at the ward door. Without hesitation, Nan Zhiyi went to open it.
Standing outside was Annie, who had come to deliver fever medication to Nan Zhiyi.
Nan Zhiyi hadn’t been able to stop worrying about the child’s condition earlier that evening, so she had sent Annie a message.
After seeing Annie off, Nan Zhiyi returned to the room.
Seeing the items in her hand, Di Shijing asked, “What is that?”
“Fever medicine developed by Aletta. I didn’t have any on me when I came, so I had someone bring it over.”
Nan Zhiyi explained, “The effects are gentler than what’s on the market, but also more effective.”
Di Shijing nodded and didn’t ask further. He had used Aletta’s medicine before, and he knew its efficacy better than anyone.
Nan Zhiyi poured some water and walked to the bedside with the medicine. “Mu-”
The moment she spoke, she choked on her words, nearly calling out the wrong name. She quickly corrected herself, “Wanwan, time to wake up and take your medicine.”
Mumu was roused from her sleep. Opening her eyes and seeing Nan Zhiyi, she muttered dizzily, “Mommy.”
Nan Zhiyi’s heart nearly stopped at that single word. She didn’t dare turn back to look at Di Shijing and could only pretend she hadn’t heard.
Di Shijing’s movements also slowed, clearly affected by his daughter’s exclamation.
Xianxian was quick-witted. He immediately jumped off the sofa and ran to Mumu’s side. “Is my sister still dreaming? This is Pretty Auntie, not Mommy.”
But Mumu was still feeling miserable and couldn’t think that much. She rubbed her small head against Nan Zhiyi’s body aggrievedly and whispered, “I feel bad…”
Nan Zhiyi stroked her face heart-wrenchingly and coaxed her in a soft voice, “Be good. You’ll feel better after taking the medicine.”
“Mm…”
The little girl was incredibly well-behaved. Without needing her mommy to hold her, she propped herself up. When Nan Zhiyi fed her the medicine, she cooperated by drinking plenty of water.
Watching this scene, Di Shijing felt a tremor in his heart and a complexity of emotions. The little girl had spoken twice in a row, and both times, she had addressed Nan Zhiyi…
After taking the medicine, Mumu soon fell back asleep.
It was getting late, and Xianxian, standing nearby, couldn’t help but yawn.
“Are you sleepy?” Nan Zhiyi looked down and asked.
Xianxian rubbed his eyes and nodded.
“Then go to the bed and sleep with your sister.”
As Nan Zhiyi spoke, she leaned over, picked the child up, and placed him on the bed. She took off his shoes and tucked him in with the small blanket.
Every movement was incredibly natural, as if she had practiced them a thousand times.
Xianxian shyly pulled at the blanket himself. “Thank you, Pretty Auntie.”
He blinked at Nan Zhiyi, subtly reminding his mommy not to get too carried away, or she would blow her cover.
Nan Zhiyi also belatedly realized that she wasn’t alone in the ward. Her movements stiffened for a moment, but she recovered quickly and said, “You’re welcome.”
Di Shijing stood to the side, his gaze deep and dark.
He recalled the past, when Nan Wanyue had tried to get close to the children, only to be met with various forms of rejection. They were clearly so resistant to him finding a mother for them, yet with Nan Zhiyi, everything was so natural and smooth.
Thinking back to how thoughtfully Nan Zhiyi had cared for the children today…
Di Shijing couldn’t help but wonder: Would a person like this really have abandoned her children back then?
Was there some kind of misunderstanding regarding her all those years ago?
Furthermore… she truly seemed unaware of the children’s existence. How could that be?
