Six Years Later: Wrecking His World with Quadruplets - Chapter 180
Chapter 180
Mumu’s condition didn’t look good. She was listless, lacking all of her usual lively energy.
Her chubby little face was somewhat pale, and when she saw Nan Zhiyi appear, her small eyes held a hint of grievance.
Her beautiful eyes were fixed intently on Nan Zhiyi.
Nan Zhiyi knew the little girl was acting spoiled. Every time she got sick, she loved to cling to her.
Taking a moment to steady herself, Nan Zhiyi asked Di Shijing directly, “Do you need help?”
Di Shijing didn’t take her up on the offer, but his brow was furrowed tight. He was confused by Nan Zhiyi’s behavior.
Why was this woman acting like this? Shouldn’t she know that this was her child? Why was she acting as if they were meeting for the first time?
Di Shijing’s gaze grew colder as if trying to see right through her. His voice was equally frigid as he spoke. “I won’t trouble you, Miss Nan.”
But at that moment, the little girl in his arms proactively reached out toward Nan Zhiyi.
“I want a hug,” she said in her tiny, milky voice.
Her innocent little eyes were fixed on Nan Zhiyi, looking as if she would burst into tears if she weren’t held.
Seeing her daughter’s expression, Nan Zhiyi’s heart ached. Forgetting everything else, she immediately took the child into her arms.
Mumu snuggled affectionately into her mommy’s embrace, rubbing her small head against her. It felt so good to be held by Mommy!
Mumu contentedly found a comfortable position and leaned back.
Feeling her daughter’s reliance on her, Nan Zhiyi’s heart melted. She instinctively held her a bit tighter and began checking the little girl’s condition.
Her temperature was still a bit high-not severe, but not mild either.
Nan Zhiyi looked up and asked Di Shijing, “Has she not taken any medicine yet?”
Di Shijing finally found his voice, though it sounded cold. “She had an IV drip earlier. The child has an upset stomach from something she ate. She hasn’t taken any oral medicine yet; she only had some warm water just now.”
Nan Zhiyi nodded after hearing this and said to Zhou Yi, who was standing nearby, “Could I trouble you to buy some porridge? She needs to eat something before she can take her medicine.”
A child’s stomach is far more fragile than an adult’s, especially since she was in the hospital precisely because of gastrointestinal issues. Taking medicine on an empty stomach wouldn’t be good.
“Alright, I’ll go right now.”
Zhou Yi agreed without hesitation.
However, before he could leave, Di Shijing called out to him.
“Buy dinner as well. It’s mealtime; Hengheng needs to eat too.”
Hearing this, Xianxian stole a glance at his daddy. He had thought his daddy would forget about him. Knowing he hadn’t been forgotten gave him an indescribable feeling.
Zhou Yi acknowledged the instruction and headed out.
About fifteen minutes later, the porridge was delivered. Di Shijing stood up to help take the food and handed one portion to Xianxian. “This one is yours. Eat it yourself.”
“Okay.”
Xianxian took it nonchalantly. He wasn’t a baby; he didn’t need someone to feed him!
The porridge was still quite hot. Di Shijing opened a container, scooped up a spoonful, and blew on it to cool it down. He coaxed, “Wanwan, be good. Eat a little first.”
Leaning in her mommy’s arms, Mumu was very cooperative this time, obediently opening her mouth to eat.
Nan Zhiyi watched the man’s movements, her mind wandering slightly. This was the first time she had seen Di Shijing act so gently.
She watched him quietly as he fed Mumu. Once the girl had finished half a bowl, Nan Zhiyi spoke up to stop him.
“That’s enough. Her stomach is upset; if you feed her too much, it’ll be harder for her to digest.”
Di Shijing gave a cold nod and set the porridge aside. He turned to pick up the medicine she hadn’t taken yet.
Nan Zhiyi proactively took the medicine from him and coaxed the little girl in her arms, “You have to take your medicine when you’re sick, otherwise you won’t get better and you’ll keep feeling bad. If you finish your medicine, I’ll reward you with a piece of candy, okay?”
After all, she had raised the child herself, so she knew exactly how to coax Mumu.
The little girl nodded obediently, and Nan Zhiyi began to feed her the medicine.
The child’s level of cooperation left Zhou Yi, who was standing nearby, utterly astonished.
Di Shijing took note of this as well.
Whether it was coaxing the child or looking after her, Nan Zhiyi was incredibly skilled, as if she were well-practiced in it.
On second thought, he remembered she had children of her own at home, which made it understandable.
However, he was equally surprised by something else.
Facing this woman she had met for the first time, Wanwan’s behavior was unexpectedly intimate!
It was the complete opposite of her attitude whenever other women appeared around him.
Di Shijing couldn’t help but wonder: could this be the bond of blood? A mother and daughter’s natural instinct?
Nan Zhiyi didn’t notice Di Shijing studying her. After feeding the little girl, she immediately pulled a milk candy from her pocket.
Mumu’s eyes lit up at the sight of the candy. As soon as she got it in her hand, she tried to tear open the wrapper.
Nan Zhiyi stopped her. “You can’t eat it now. You’re still sick, so keep the candy for later. You can eat it once you’re better.”
Hearing this, Mumu pouted aggrievedly, her cheeks puffing out in an adorable display.
Nan Zhiyi suppressed the urge to poke her cheek and asked, “Do you want to sleep for a while?”
Mumu didn’t speak, but her small hands tightly gripped Nan Zhiyi’s clothes. It was obvious she didn’t want her mommy to leave; she wanted her mommy to stay with her.
Di Shijing saw the child’s dependence on Nan Zhiyi. His brow furrowed slightly, but it soon smoothed over.
He said to Nan Zhiyi, “If you have things to do, you can head back first.”
He meant that he was there and could take care of the child himself.
But with her daughter sick, there was no way Nan Zhiyi could leave with a peaceful mind.
Consequently, she replied casually, “I’m not busy. I’ve already finished my work at the company, so it’s fine for me to stay at the hospital. Besides, children have weaker constitutions, and her condition might fluctuate during the night. I can stay a bit longer! I have experience taking care of children and some medical knowledge, so I might be of use!”
When she said this, Di Shijing couldn’t help but stare at her again, finding her behavior suspicious.
Nan Zhiyi tried her best to act natural, though her heart was racing.
She wondered what on earth this man was thinking.
Reassured by her mommy’s words, Mumu felt at ease. Still clutching Nan Zhiyi’s clothes, she fell asleep in her arms.
Xianxian watched the two of them while eating his dinner, thinking to himself: The way Daddy and Mommy are getting along is much better than I imagined!
Xianxian’s mood brightened instantly, making his meal taste even better.
After finishing his dinner, Xianxian saw that his mommy was still holding his sister and hadn’t eaten yet. She had to be hungry. He immediately brought over a lunch box.
“Pretty Auntie, you should eat too.”
Nan Zhiyi glanced at him and didn’t refuse. “Thank you.”
She reached out to take it, but since she was still holding Mumu, it was quite inconvenient.
Xianxian clearly realized this as well.
He opened the lunch box and picked up the chopsticks and spoon. “You’re holding my sister, so I’ll feed you…”
Nan Zhiyi didn’t intend to decline. There was no reason to refuse such a sweet gesture from her own son.
However, this time, Xianxian didn’t succeed.
Just as he took the chopsticks in hand, a large hand reached out from the side and snatched them away.
“Do you even know how to do that? Don’t end up feeding the rice onto your sister’s head.”
With that single sentence, the man not only dismissed Xianxian but also took the lunch box from the table to do it himself.
