Chapter 163
Chapter 163
Soon, beneath the umbrella, a spark of tension began to flicker between them.
After leaving the theater, they had to cross a street. They had been walking for a while, and Nan Zhiyi’s high heels were wet from the rain, making them slippery. She tried her best to slow down, but while crossing the street, she accidentally twisted her ankle.
It was a stroke of bad luck. Nan Zhiyi felt a sharp pang of pain shoot up her leg. She couldn’t help but gasp, nearly losing her balance.
Di Shijing was quick to react, catching her before she could fall.
“Are you alright?” he asked, his brow furrowed with concern.
Nan Zhiyi winced. When she tried to move, the pain in her ankle intensified.
“I think I’m fine,” she said, but noticing the traffic light across the street had already turned red, she urged him, “Let’s get across first.”
However, after only two steps, a piercing pain flared up, leaving her almost unable to move. Nan Zhiyi’s expression shifted, and she tightly gripped the fabric of her skirt.
Still saying you’re fine like this? he thought. It was obvious she couldn’t walk.
Di Shijing glanced at her, feeling a hint of frustration at her stubbornness. “Hold the umbrella,” he commanded.
Nan Zhiyi was taken aback. I’m already like this, and he wants me to hold the umbrella? she grumbled internally, though her hand obediently took it from him.
In the next second, Di Shijing swept her up into his arms. The sudden sensation of being lifted off her feet made Nan Zhiyi cry out in surprise, “Ah!”
Afraid of falling, she instinctively wrapped one arm around Di Shijing’s neck. A faint blush crept across her cheeks uncontrollably. “Di Shijing, what are you doing?”
“The light is red,” Di Shijing replied, his expression unchanging. “Did you want to stay in the middle of the road and block traffic?”
“…”
Nan Zhiyi was left speechless. She could only shut her mouth and stay still as he carried her.
Their actions were quite eye-catching, drawing numerous gazes as they moved along. Two girls nearby watched them, their faces full of envy.
“Look at that guy’s ‘boyfriend power.’ Then I think of the useless guy I have at home… I want to break up!”
“Especially since he’s so handsome-tall with long legs. Did you see his face? Oh my god!”
“The girl in his arms is pretty too, a real beauty…”
Nan Zhiyi heard every word. Feeling strangely self-conscious, she instinctively tilted her head, leaning it against Di Shijing’s shoulder.
Di Shijing clearly heard them as well. His face remained stoic, but he cast a subtle glance down at Nan Zhiyi. Seeing the woman who usually kept everyone at a distance acting so bashful-as if she were shy-he couldn’t help but let the corners of his lips curl upward. He was in a surprisingly good mood.
A moment later, they arrived at the parking lot. The driver came over to open the car door.
Di Shijing leaned in and gently placed Nan Zhiyi onto the seat. At the same time, he instructed the driver, “Go get the first-aid kit.”
The driver nodded and quickly retrieved the kit from the trunk.
Di Shijing climbed into the back seat from the other side and handed Nan Zhiyi a small towel. “Dry off the rainwater first. We’ll apply medicine once you’re dry.”
Nan Zhiyi looked at the small towel. A cartoon pattern? It was quite cute.
Seeing her hesitation, Di Shijing instinctively explained, “It belongs to the children. It’s never been used.”
Nan Zhiyi realized then that it was prepared for the two little ones. This man was more attentive than she had imagined. She couldn’t help but steal another glance at Di Shijing, her gaze softening slightly.
She folded the towel and set it aside, unable to bring herself to use it on her feet. Instead, she pulled out a few tissues to wipe the moisture from her ankle.
By now, her ankle had swollen significantly, looking quite severe.
Seeing this, Di Shijing immediately opened the first-aid kit and handed Nan Zhiyi a bottle of spray.
Nan Zhiyi checked the label; it was indeed a medicinal spray for sprains. “Thank you,” she said softly.
After a few sprays, she began to skillfully massage the area herself, using techniques designed to alleviate the strain.
Di Shijing watched her in silence from the side.
Noticing his gaze, Nan Zhiyi couldn’t help but say, “It’s nothing serious. I just pulled a tendon. It’ll be fine in a couple of days.”
Di Shijing had intended to ask if she needed to go to the hospital, but hearing her words, he simply replied, “As long as you know what you’re doing.”
Nan Zhiyi nodded and continued using the warmth of her palms and her massage technique to dull the pain.
Because Nan Zhiyi had twisted her ankle, Di Shijing originally intended to drop her off right at her front door.
However, they hadn’t been driving for long when a low gurgle sounded.
Di Shijing instinctively looked toward the source of the noise, his eyes holding a hint of a question. “?”
Nan Zhiyi felt incredibly embarrassed. She feigned as if nothing had happened, staring straight ahead without blinking.
Unexpectedly, her stomach let out another protest.
Di Shijing frowned, his tone carrying a trace of displeasure. “Did you skip dinner again tonight?”
“Yes.”
Nan Zhiyi braced herself and replied, “It’s fine. I’ll eat when I get back. It’s just a bit inconvenient to move around right now.”
Di Shijing stared at her but didn’t respond.
For some reason, Nan Zhiyi felt that the man beside her seemed rather unhappy. She couldn’t quite figure out his mood.
Silence fell over the car. As they drove on, the man continued to radiate a chilling, frosty aura.
A few minutes later, Di Shijing suddenly gave a cold command to the driver. “Stop the car.”
The driver didn’t dare delay and immediately hit the brakes.
Once the car came to a steady halt, Di Shijing grabbed an umbrella and pushed the door open to get out.
Nan Zhiyi’s heart skipped a beat. She couldn’t help but think: Why did he leave? Did he leave in a fit of anger?
At this thought, she considered calling a taxi for herself so the driver could go pick up his Master.
However, before she could do anything, Di Shijing returned with the umbrella over his head.
A gust of cold wind rushed in as the man brought the dampness of the rain back into the car with him.
Nan Zhiyi saw him carrying a bag. The packaging was opaque, so she couldn’t tell what was inside.
Di Shijing tossed the bag to her with a casual motion, his voice cold. “Eat something for now.”
Nan Zhiyi opened it to find an assortment of cute, exquisite little cakes. A sweet, milky fragrance wafted to her nose, instantly whetting her appetite.
Nan Zhiyi found herself speechless. Somewhere deep in her heart, she felt as though she were melting along with that sweet aroma.
She hadn’t expected this man to actually buy cake for her.
It took a moment for her fluttering heart to settle before she said softly, “There’s so much here. I can’t finish it all.”
Di Shijing acted indifferent. “Then just pick the ones you like.”
The strange sensation in Nan Zhiyi’s heart only grew stronger.
Finally, she said, “Thank you. I’ll help myself, then.”
The car started moving again. Nan Zhiyi chose a strawberry-flavored cake.
She used a small spoon to scoop the cake, taking small bites. The texture was incredibly dense and creamy, melting the moment it touched her tongue.
After finishing half of it, her stomach felt much better. Nan Zhiyi slowed down, wanting to savor the taste.
Seeing Di Shijing sitting beside her with his eyes closed and arms crossed, seemingly indifferent to the delicious cakes, she couldn’t help but ask, “You bought so many; aren’t you going to have some?”
