Chapter 164
Chapter 164
Upon hearing her, Di Shijing opened his eyes and looked out the car window.
“I don’t eat sweets.”
His voice was cold and his tone was stiff, making him seem quite difficult to get along with.
Nan Zhiyi didn’t think much of it and said earnestly, “The sweetness of this cake is alright, it’s not too much. You should try it.”
However, her suggestion was not taken. Di Shijing refused again, “No need.”
Seeing this, Nan Zhiyi didn’t push further. She focused on finishing the rest of her cake, a satisfied expression finally crossing her face after the last bite.
Just then, the car arrived at Luyuan.
Nan Zhiyi said goodbye to Di Shijing. “Then I’ll head in now.”
“Is your foot okay?”
Di Shijing’s gaze fell on her ankle, his eyes filled with a hint of doubt.
Nan Zhiyi nodded and said with a relaxed expression, “It’s much better than before. No problem.”
She answered quickly, fearing he might pick her up and carry her off again like he did on the street.
There were still two children in the house…
Seeing that Nan Zhiyi really didn’t seem to be in any serious trouble, Di Shijing didn’t question her further and handed over the umbrella and the cakes.
Nan Zhiyi took them and took the opportunity to remind him, “Remember to apply the ointment when you get back.”
With that, she opened the umbrella and left.
Inside the house, as soon as Nan Zhiyi stepped through the door, Hengheng and Wanwan rushed over to greet her. “Mommy, Mommy, you’re back!”
Nan Zhiyi nodded and walked toward the living room.
Watching her, Hengheng keenly noticed that something was wrong with the way his mommy was walking. His heart sank, and he couldn’t help but ask out of concern, “Mommy, what’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing. I just accidentally sprained my ankle. It’ll be better soon.”
“Really?”
The two little ones were still a bit worried. They circled around their mommy, checking her carefully. Only after confirming that she was truly alright did they breathe a sigh of relief.
Then, Hengheng asked, “Mommy, did things go smoothly tonight?”
As he spoke, Wanwan also stared at her with a concerned face, her big eyes sparkling with anticipation.
Nan Zhiyi rubbed their fluffy little heads and replied with a smile, “It went quite smoothly.”
The two little ones gave her thumbs up and praised her one after another, “Mommy is the best!”
After hearing their flattering words, Nan Zhiyi felt much better and handed the bag of cakes to the children.
The two little ones asked in surprise, “Did Mommy buy these?”
“No.”
Nan Zhiyi answered honestly, “Your daddy bought them.”
Daddy?
The two little ones found it hard to believe.
“Why would Daddy buy these kinds of little treats?”
Back when they lived at Dijinglan Mansion, the family chef would make them, but Daddy still wouldn’t allow them to eat too many.
Nan Zhiyi glanced at the cakes and said, “I didn’t eat dinner tonight. He saw them on the way and got out of the car to buy them.”
After explaining, she suddenly felt something was strange too, though she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
Hengheng and Wanwan exchanged a look, feeling quite astonished.
Daddy actually took the initiative to buy cake for Mommy. That was truly shocking!
It seemed that Daddy cared about Mommy a lot too~
Knowing that their progress was going well, the two little ones were genuinely happy.
The next morning.
Nan Zhiyi’s ankle injury hadn’t fully healed yet, so she couldn’t drive herself. She asked Annie to come and drop her off.
Upon arriving at Di Corporation, Nan Zhiyi immediately threw herself into her work.
At noon, she went to the cafeteria for lunch with Lin Zhizhi.
Just as they were finishing their meal, Nan Wanyue suddenly approached and said to Nan Zhiyi, “Zhiyi, I have something I want to talk to you about.”
“There shouldn’t be anything for us to talk about.”
Nan Zhiyi swept a glance over her, her voice cold. Looking at the remaining food on her plate, she instantly lost her appetite.
Hearing her response, Nan Wanyue decided to get straight to the point. “I’m here because of Aunt. You drugged her at the hospital, and she still hasn’t been able to speak. Aunt isn’t young anymore, and sometimes she can be a bit blunt. I hope you won’t hold it against her.”
Nan Zhiyi let out a cold laugh and replied bluntly, “People with foul mouths need to be taught a lesson! Besides, don’t go around making baseless accusations. When did I ever drug her? Nan Wanyue, you’d better take responsibility for what you say!”
Nan Wanyue stiffened, gritting her teeth. “Mom and Big Brother both saw it.”
“Just because they say they saw it doesn’t mean they did. I say I didn’t do it.”
Nan Zhiyi shut her down directly.
Knowing she couldn’t win the argument, Nan Wanyue pursed her lips and tried another angle. “Zhiyi, we’re all family. Why must you be so heartless?”
“Who’s family with you? Stop trying to force a connection, will you?”
Nan Zhiyi looked at her with undisguised disgust, as if she had just heard something utterly absurd.
Having completely lost interest in eating, she picked up her tray and stood up to leave.
A cold, sinister glint flashed through Nan Wanyue’s eyes. She immediately stepped forward and grabbed Nan Zhiyi’s arm.
“Zhiyi, wait a moment!”
Nan Zhiyi felt a wave of revulsion at the contact. Feeling sickened, she instinctively tried to shake her off without using much force.
But in that instant, Nan Wanyue acted as if she had been violently shoved. She fell backward, her body uncontrollably crashing into the dining table behind her.
Amidst the gasps of the surrounding crowd, her head slammed hard against the corner of the table.
Bright red blood began to trickle down from her temple…
The commotion from Nan Wanyue’s fall was so loud that it stunned everyone.
Some of the more faint-hearted onlookers cried out in shock.
Jiang Xiaoyu rushed over immediately, her face full of concern. “Director, are you alright? Are you okay?”
Nan Wanyue seemed dazed by the pain. Clutching her wound, she couldn’t answer. Blood was smeared all over her hands and face, making for a terrifying sight.
Seeing this, Jiang Xiaoyu turned around and glared at Nan Zhiyi in a fit of rage. “Nan Zhiyi, how can you be so malicious? Director Nan was speaking to you nicely, and even if you didn’t want to agree, you shouldn’t have hurt her like this! If anything happens to Director Nan, how are you going to pay for it?”
Jiang Xiaoyu spoke loudly, seemingly intent on making sure everyone heard her.
Nan Zhiyi’s expression had turned incredibly grim the moment Nan Wanyue fell.
Nan Wanyue really never got tired of this routine.
She had framed her like this years ago, and now, years later, she was doing it again.
She hadn’t used any force just now.
However, Nan Zhiyi also knew that to the onlookers, it looked exactly like she had pushed Nan Wanyue.
Especially with Jiang Xiaoyu intentionally shouting about it.
Soon, the people around them began to whisper.
Though no one stepped forward to accuse her loudly, those hushed murmurs felt like knives stabbing into Nan Zhiyi’s heart.
“That’s just too much. I saw it just now; Nan Zhiyi definitely threw Nan Wanyue off her.”
“But from where I was standing, it didn’t look like Nan Zhiyi used much force?”
“Who doesn’t know that Nan Wanyue’s legs have always been bad? She can barely stand steady. Even a light tug would make her fall. Do you think Nan Zhiyi didn’t know that before she acted?”
“Then she really is malicious. It looks like she really was the one who pushed Nan Wanyue down the stairs back then…”
“Heavens, this kind of behavior is practically attempted murder, isn’t it?”
“…”
Nan Zhiyi stood where she was, listening to the discussions around her. Her face was icy, and a terrifying chill radiated from her entire being.
