Chapter 162
Chapter 162
The stranger standing before her seemed dumbfounded by her words.
It took a long moment for him to snap out of it. He chuckled and said, “That can’t be right. You must be joking, Miss. You’re so beautiful and look so young-you don’t look like someone who’s had children at all.”
Nan Zhiyi didn’t know how to explain that part.
It would take other women several years to have four children, but she was different. She had given birth to four in one go, so of course, she didn’t look like the average mother of four.
However, she didn’t feel the need to offer an explanation.
At that moment, Di Shijing had already begun walking toward her.
Seeing him appear, Nan Zhiyi felt a strange sense of relief. “You’re here.”
Following her greeting, the man who had been hitting on her also looked over.
The moment his eyes met Di Shijing’s, the man felt an intense sense of pressure and a chilling coldness for some unknown reason.
His breath hitched, and he felt a shiver run down his spine.
“And this is…?” the man asked dryly.
Di Shijing lowered his gaze, looking somewhat displeased. His voice carried a sharp chill as he spoke. “Didn’t you hear her? She’s married with four kids!”
While this wasn’t a direct answer regarding his identity, it was enough for the man to misunderstand.
This person was likely the father of those children.
Furthermore, the man before him was incredibly well-off. Whether it was the expensive, custom-made suit or the luxury watch on his wrist, everything proved this man’s immense net worth.
Most notably, the aura of a powerful superior radiating from him as he stood there was peerless.
With just one look, the man admitted defeat in front of Di Shijing.
“My apologies. I was simply admiring this lady. I meant no offense.”
He spoke hurriedly and turned to leave, knowing when to back off.
Once the man was gone, Nan Zhiyi breathed a sigh of relief and stole a glance at Di Shijing.
She felt a bit apprehensive, thinking to herself: How could it be such a coincidence that he heard that exact sentence?
More importantly, he won’t suspect anything, will he?
Nan Zhiyi felt guilty, her heart racing. She hoped this would pass quickly and that Di Shijing wouldn’t ask any questions.
But Di Shijing spoke up anyway. “Married with four kids? Nan Zhiyi, you’re certainly talented at coming up with excuses.”
Nan Zhiyi caught the teasing tone in his voice and thought: I really am that talented!
But I can’t tell you that!
While grumbling inwardly, she maintained a calm facade. “Wasn’t that just to get rid of him? It was just a way to decline a stranger’s advances; don’t read too much into the phrasing.”
Di Shijing seemed to let out a short laugh.
Thinking she had misheard, Nan Zhiyi looked up, only catching the faint curve of the man’s lips.
It was a fleeting glimpse that vanished almost instantly.
Di Shijing was in a good mood. He raised his hand to check the time on his watch. “It’s about to start. Let’s go in.”
Without waiting for her response, he led the way.
Nan Zhiyi followed behind him, and they soon passed the ticket check and entered the theater.
Inside the massive venue, every seat was occupied. The stage was decorated with magnificent splendor.
Their seats were quite good, located in the third row.
Shortly after they sat down, the concert began.
Tonight’s performers were an international orchestra from abroad that had once played at the Golden Hall in Vienna. Their superb performance level had captivated music lovers, which was why the house was packed tonight.
Nan Zhiyi briefly forgot the purpose of their meeting as she became immersed in the music, enjoying every moment of the experience.
Di Shijing also allowed himself to get lost in the music. Sitting beside her, his mood gradually relaxed.
The entire concert lasted an hour and a half.
After the final curtain call, the audience began to disperse.
Nan Zhiyi and Di Shijing followed the flow of people out of the theater. Many people around them were discussing the performance they had just witnessed.
Hearing everyone’s praise for the orchestra, Nan Zhiyi felt a rare spark of interest and asked the man beside her, “Which instrument’s sound do you prefer?”
Di Shijing arched an eyebrow, playing along with the topic. “Piano or violin are both fine.”
Nan Zhiyi nodded. “I prefer the cello. Its sound is rich and deep, very soul-stirring. Of course, traditional domestic instruments are also wonderful. The tones they produce are so majestic and grand; that sense of ancient simplicity can easily pull a person back into the stories of history…”
The two of them chatted idly as they exited the theater.
However, a large crowd was bottlenecked at the exit.
Nan Zhiyi glanced outside and realized it had started pouring.
She clearly hadn’t expected the weather to change so abruptly. She turned to Di Shijing and asked, “Where did you park your car?”
“It’s a bit of a distance from here. We have to cross the street,” Di Shijing said, glancing at the curtain of rain. “I’ll have the driver bring an umbrella over first.”
“Alright.”
The rain showed signs of getting heavier. Because of the concert, the area was crowded with people, and cars weren’t allowed to stop nearby, so they had to walk to the vehicle.
Di Shijing made a phone call, and ten minutes later, the driver arrived with an umbrella.
However, there was only one!
Nan Zhiyi was wearing a dress tonight paired with high heels, and she hadn’t driven herself.
Seeing the single umbrella, she said to Di Shijing, “Why don’t you head back first? I’ll just call a taxi for myself in a bit.”
However, the man beside her acted as if he hadn’t heard a word she said. He opened the umbrella and looked at her with a neutral gaze. “I can afford the gas it takes to drop you off. Get over here.”
His deep voice left no room for argument.
The rain was heavy, and more importantly, it was quite a long way home from here.
Considering the likelihood of getting soaked, Nan Zhiyi didn’t hesitate for long. She stepped under Di Shijing’s umbrella and followed him toward the parking area.
The umbrella wasn’t particularly large. In her attempt to maintain some distance from the man, Nan Zhiyi inevitably got splashed by the rain as they walked.
Di Shijing had noticed her movements long ago, but he didn’t say anything at first.
After walking for a while, seeing that one of Nan Zhiyi’s shoulders was about to be drenched, he couldn’t help but frown. “Do I have some kind of virus? Why are you standing so far away? Are you that desperate to avoid me?”
Though his words were sharp, Nan Zhiyi understood his meaning.
She stole a quick glance at him. Seeing that Di Shijing looked as composed as ever, she hesitantly nudged a bit closer to the center.
Even so, her right shoulder was still catching some rain.
So slow!
Losing his patience, Di Shijing simply reached out and pulled her toward him by the waist.
Caught off guard, Nan Zhiyi’s side bumped right into the man’s right arm.
She barely managed to steady herself. Before she could speak, she heard him say coldly, “Am I going to eat you?”
Nan Zhiyi pursed her lips and instinctively retorted, “I didn’t think that.”
It was just that being this close felt… improper.
Di Shijing gave a short, mocking huff and fell silent.
The two walked quietly through the rain. As Nan Zhiyi was wearing a sleeveless dress, her exposed arm occasionally brushed against the fabric of Di Shijing’s clothes.
He was wearing a dress shirt, and that thin layer of fabric did nothing to block his body heat.
She could clearly feel the warmth beneath his clothes, which became exceptionally prominent in the chilly, rainy night.
This subtle, intermittent contact was incredibly stirring…
