Chapter 12
As soon as the words fell, Chen Yinan’s face turned ashen.
“You, you…”
I looked straight into his eyes, watching as the glimmer of hope in them faded away bit by bit, silently waiting for his answer.
After a few minutes, Chen Yinan finally gave up, and said softly, “I can’t say. If I say it, I won’t survive.”
“If you don’t say, you won’t survive either.”
I reached out and tapped the table. The Imperial Green bracelet knocked against the glass panel, glaringly bright.
“Anyway, as long as I don’t fall for your trap, and as soon as you fail your mission–guess what he’ll do to you?”
Chen Yinan was startled, his eyes widened as he looked at me.
Yes, Yuan Chen had always been a man who left no loose ends.
If Chen Yinan couldn’t get me no matter how long he tried, with Yuan Chen’s style, he would inevitably find a way to silence him, to eliminate future troubles.
“You don’t want to say? Then how about I take a guess?”
I let out a light laugh, but with every word I spoke, the bitterness in my heart deepened.
“He asked you to seduce me into cheating, rekindle your old romance with me, then split half his assets with me and marry you.
“Next, I would marry you, and everything I got from him would become ours.
“Then, I would die in an ‘accident,’ right? As my lawful husband, you’d inherit everything I own. After all, I have no one left in this world.
“And finally…”
I took a deep breath and spoke slowly, “What happens in the end? Do you want me to keep going?”
Cold sweat had already broken out on Chen Yinan’s forehead.
He licked the corner of his lips and asked me in a barely audible voice, “How did you know?”
“You don’t need to know.”
“Fine, I’ll talk.”
