Chapter 11
In the dim corner of the café on a weekday, there were hardly any people.
Chen Yinan looked at me as I placed my order, a hint of surprise in his eyes: “I didn’t expect you would still want to see me.”
I said nothing, just tugged at the corner of my mouth.
The bitter coffee went down my throat, yet I didn’t find it particularly bitter.
It didn’t seem much worse than that cup of Osmanthus Ice Cream Black Tea.
“I, I really didn’t mean to follow you. When you transferred schools, that period was really hard for me.
“I know in everyone’s eyes I’m not worthy of you, but to be honest, back then I really thought about studying hard, finding a good job, and becoming someone who could stand shoulder to shoulder with you. But it seems fate didn’t want to give me that chance.
“Now I ask for nothing more, as long as I can see you from afar and know that you’re doing well, I am at peace.”
Chen Yinan spoke softly of the years of longing and regret. If it were in a previous life, I might have been somewhat moved.
But now, I have no patience to listen much longer.
With a ding, the coffee spoon was casually tossed into the cup, making a crisp sound.
Chen Yinan’s words came to an abrupt halt, looking at me with some confusion.
“Speak.”
I said coldly, “What is Yuan Chen’s plan? What has he promised you?”
