Chapter 11
When I returned to Mount Xiang, I was six months pregnant.
Beneath the assembly of gods and buddhas, I appeared especially small.
I knelt devoutly on the ground and bowed three times-
The first for the child, wishing him joy and health in this life.
The second for the Shen Family, wishing the clan prosperity and flourishing.
The third for Pei Huai, wishing him longevity, and that year after year he would never forget me.
Halfway there, a sudden downpour began, making the road even more slippery. Our group went to Xiang Pavilion to take shelter from the rain.
At the door, I looked up-
The two characters “Zhenyu Pavilion” were gone.
Only the cold, unfeeling Xiang Pavilion remained.
But it was not surprising.
All the precious jade had already been relocated by Pei Huai; what meaning was there in Zhenyu Pavilion’s existence?
I stood before the corridor and looked up at the peach tree in the center of the courtyard.
The first time I saw it, its leaves were not as lush as they are now.
Suddenly, my gaze locked onto a spot of red-
It was a sachet.
It must have been left behind in haste.
Zhier handed it to me. I opened the sachet, and inside was a slip of paper-
“May you be well, may I and you endure long.”
“Same wish.”
The handwriting above was delicate, likely written by Yaoyao; the words below were very familiar to me-
They were Pei Huai’s.
I stared at it for a long, long time before slowly putting it back and handing the sachet to Zhier.
“Keep it safe.”
These are all things to return to Pei Huai in the future.
Pei Huai.
Pei Huai.
So there really is someone who can treat me so well, while still longing for a lasting bond with another woman.
At this moment, my eyes stung fiercely.
Yet not a single tear would fall.
I only sighed softly, softly.
Sighed at the unpredictability of life.
Sighed at the blooming and fading of flowers.
