Chapter 5
In the afternoon, I took special care to dress up, arriving at the coffee shop near Damien’s company half an hour early.
I ordered a dessert and lowered my head, eating it at a leisurely pace.
The sound of someone taking the seat opposite me.
A wide smile spread across my face. “Honey, you have to try this…”
But the moment I looked up, I realized it wasn’t Damien.
Flynn’s eyes raked over my sexy, strapless red dress and exquisite makeup. He chuckled softly.
“Lilith Chambers. So desperate for me you’re already calling me ‘Honey’?”
I couldn’t be bothered to waste my breath. I stood up to leave.
Flynn grabbed my wrist.
“Let go. My husband is nearby.”
“Stop pretending. If it weren’t to spite me, a woman as proud as you would never have married that inhuman bastard, Damien. Don’t think I don’t know you haven’t let him touch you these past three years.”
Flynn’s gaze dropped to my crimson lips. His eyes darkened, his tone turning flippant.
“One kiss. Is that enough to make you leave Rory alone for now?”
Looking at the man before me, he felt like a complete stranger.
The cocky, slightly rebellious boy-next-door from my memories… when on earth did he become like this?
It seemed that anyone who got close to Aurora eventually became someone I no longer recognized.
Flynn gripped my chin, leaning in slowly. “Lilith, did you get all dressed up just for me? Hmm?”
As I struggled, I saw him through the glass window-Damien, standing right outside.
Bullet Comments:
[Don’t get your hopes up, side character. Damien’s been standing there ever since you called out ‘Honey.’ An incubus’s senses are incredibly sharp; he heard every word.]
[Omo, what a showdown! So intense! I live for this!]
[Incredible. Just when I think Lilith might actually survive, she finds the 361st way to die.]
Using every ounce of my strength, I shoved Flynn away and bolted from the coffee shop.
I caught his sleeve just a second before he turned to leave.
The man’s pupils were black as ink, a bottomless abyss. “So, this is what you wanted to tell me.”
“No, that’s not it! I don’t know why Flynn is here…”
Halfway through my sentence, I remembered the text he’d sent before I blocked him.
Today was Friday. But I never, ever agreed to meet him.
I’ve been trying so hard to avoid the main characters, all to save my own skin.
Is the power of the plot really this overwhelming?
