My Wife Is Adorable - Chapter 3
Since I’d skipped my workout, I decided to walk home after work.
First I stopped at my usual bakery for chestnut cake. There was exactly one left.
As I paid, a message from Qin Zhan appeared on my phone: [I’m home.]
A little spark of happiness made me quicken my pace.
I was taking a shortcut through the next block when a full-grown leopard suddenly sprang out in front of me.
Startled, I took half a step back. Then I realized who it was.
“Second Brother,” I said dully.
The leopard instantly became a tall, handsome man. Leaning against the wall, he gave me a casual smile.
“Jiang Youman. That unhappy to see me?”
I swallowed. “You’re not allowed to shift in public.”
Jiang Tingmao laughed and slipped his hands into his pockets. “Well, I just did. Going to have your commander husband arrest me?”
I frowned, unwilling to answer.
When I tried to leave, he raised an arm to block my way.
“Lend me some spending money.”
Clutching my bag strap, I hesitated for two seconds, then unzipped my bag and handed him three thousand.
He counted it roughly, looking displeased. “That’s all?”
“My salary isn’t much.”
“Doesn’t Qin Zhan give you money?”
He did. I’d had the bank card for his salary account all along.
After a silence, I looked up. “His money is his. I can’t just spend it however I like.”
Tingmao snorted and stuffed the cash back into my bag. “What’s this his-and-yours nonsense? Ever heard of marital property? You’ve every right to spend his money.”
I didn’t answer. I stepped forward, and the chestnut cake was abruptly snatched from my hand.
Before I could stop him, he’d opened the lid and taken a bite.
Half the cake was gone. A great chunk of my good mood went with it.
I turned to leave, but he caught my wrist.
“Eldest Sister is coming back.”
I stopped.
He let go, took another bite, and slowly chewed and swallowed before looking at me.
“Have a baby with Qin Zhan while you still can. It’ll deepen your bond. Make it harder to divorce.”
When I got home, Qin Zhan was busy in the kitchen.
I washed my hands and went in to help. Before I could speak, he handed me a plate of washed strawberries.
I took it in a daze. He brushed my chin with the back of his hand.
“Wait in the living room. Don’t eat too many.”
“Oh,” I said a beat late, choosing the largest strawberry and holding it to his mouth.
Then I carried the plate out.
Dinner was soon ready. Near the end of the meal, he suddenly asked, “Couldn’t get the cake today?”
I paused, glanced at him, then looked down and gently prodded the rice in my bowl.
“They’d… sold out by the time I got there.”
He murmured an acknowledgment and said nothing more.
Our housekeeper cleared the dishes afterward. Qin Zhan and I went out for a short walk, then came home and attended to our own things.
At ten thirty, we showered and went to bed.
After the lights went out, he held me from behind. His voice was low and gentle.
“Who did you run into on your way home?”
I hesitated. “My second brother.”
“Did he bully you?”
I shook my head.
“Did he take your cake?”
I nodded.
“Is that why you’re unhappy?”
I remained silent. After wrestling with myself for a moment, I slowly turned in his arms.
“What is it?” he asked patiently.
I lifted my hand and lightly picked at a button on his pajama top.
“Gege.”
“Mm?”
“Do you… do you want a baby?”
Now it was his turn to fall silent.
In the darkness, I could hear his even breathing, his steady heartbeat.
“Jingshu,” he said, “I don’t want you to have a child.”
His tone was emotionless, as though he had thought it through long ago.
I withdrew my hand and gave a small nod. “Okay. I understand.”
[Seriously, this supporting character. Trying to trap him with a baby!]
[Thank goodness he’s got his head on straight. You only have children with someone you love. Of course he doesn’t want you having his baby!]
[We told you he just feels sorry for you, but you wouldn’t listen. Giving up now?]
[Doesn’t matter if she won’t. Our female lead is already on her flight home. She’ll meet him soon!]
