My Ex-Boyfriend Fell for My Sister - Chapter 5
As the five-day holiday was coming to an end, I returned to San Francisco.
Jake was the one who came to pick me up from the airport.
Seeing him again, I was unexpectedly calm, as if all the bitterness and unwillingness had dissipated during that trip.
This man was no longer related to me.
Jake helped me put my luggage into the trunk and casually remarked, “Got a tan.”
I didn’t respond and sat in the back seat of the car.
After getting off the plane, my younger sister sent a message saying she had classes in the morning and couldn’t pick me up, so Jake would come.
The car sped along, and a few minutes later, Jake broke the silence: “In a few days, it’s Sophie’s birthday.”
Sophie is my younger sister.
She is three years younger than me.
“What do you think would be a suitable gift?”
I noticed the silver glint on the ring finger of his right hand as he held the steering wheel, reflecting in the sunlight.
I once said I wanted us to wear couple rings on our one-year anniversary. He had mocked the idea as childish but agreed half-heartedly, and before we could fulfill it, we broke up.
I pondered for a moment: “This kind of couple ring on your hand, she would like.”
Jake met my gaze through the rearview mirror for a few seconds: “Really? Are girls’ thoughts all that simple?”
