chapter 17
After returning to the Villa with Song Yan, the two of us hugged a pile of snacks, sat on the carpet in his bedroom, cast the movie from my phone, and started watching a horror film.
I’m a coward, but I love watching them.
Not even half an hour in, I was already curled up in Song Yan’s arms.
Just as the horror movie reached its most thrilling moment, the screen was flooded with countless high-energy warnings in the comments. Clutching Song Yan’s arm, I stared at the screen, bracing myself for the inevitable scream.
Suddenly, two WeChat messages popped up on his phone.
“I’m pregnant.”
“My due date is in a few days.”
The air grew subtly quiet. I stared at those words, even ignoring the terrifying ghost face at the bottom of the screen.
After a long while, thinking about the balance in my bank account, I hesitantly spoke up: “How about… I go take care of the Good Sister during her Postpartum Confinement?”
Song Yan suddenly let go of my hand.
“Sure.” He looked at me with a hint of coldness. “Pack up and get ready tomorrow. Go take care of her while she has the baby, otherwise I’m afraid you won’t feel at ease earning this money.”
“Okay, I’ll go get ready now.”
I quietly picked up my bag and went out to the Shopping Mall to buy maternity and baby supplies.
As I shopped, tears started falling inexplicably.
I didn’t even know what I’d bought. Carrying several bags of baby products, I sat in the bustling Shopping Mall, staring blankly.
“Sisi?” Jiang Yifan’s face suddenly appeared in front of me.
“Senior.” I hurriedly wiped away my tears.
“What’s all this?” He glanced at the baby supplies by my side.
I wiped my tears as I explained.
“No, no, these are for my Good Sister.”
Jiang Yifan looked shocked. “Xiao Xuan is pregnant?”
I couldn’t help but start crying again, choking out:
“It’s not them, it’s Song Yan’s girlfriend.”
“But aren’t you his girlfriend? Did you break up?”
“No, we didn’t break up. I have to go take care of his Mistress during her Postpartum Confinement. Wuwuwu, Senior, why is my life so miserable?”
I clung to Jiang Yifan’s arm and started bawling.
Jiang Yifan was completely stunned, comforting me with disjointed words for half an hour before I finally calmed down.
Once things quieted, Senior Jiang Yifan looked at me cautiously.
“Do you feel better after crying?”
“Mm.”
I lowered my head, embarrassed by my earlier outburst.
Luckily, Senior Jiang Yifan didn’t press further. He just helped me carry the bags and walked me downstairs.
“Let me take you home?”
“No need.” I stared at a fleeting figure in the distance.
It looked like Song Yan.
“Yu Sisi.”
“Hmm?” I snapped back to reality.
The warm yellow streetlight shone on Jiang Yifan’s face, making his already gentle features even softer.
“If Song Yan doesn’t treat you well, you can consider me.”
I lowered my head, staring at the pile of baby supplies at my feet, and bit my lip.
“Actually, Song Yan treats me pretty well.”
Even though he’s making me take care of his Mistress during her Postpartum Confinement, he’s still pretty good to me.
Senior Jiang Yifan smiled politely and distantly.
“Mm, I figured. I respect your choice.”
He’s always like this-gentle, considerate, and steadfast.
But the sudden, uncontrollable emotions just now made me realize clearly that with Song Yan, maybe I’ve really fallen for him.
Even if I now realize I’m just a working fish caught in his net, I can only say I’ll take this money with even more peace of mind.
