Chapter 2
On the day of my twentieth birthday.
It was also the fourth year since He Zhou had joined the police force.
He fell into the high seas while rescuing our citizens who had been kidnapped by pirates.
Later, the country searched that stretch of ocean for a month, but never found him.
Everyone said that He Zhou was dead.
I was in a daze for two months, on the verge of a mental breakdown.
But then, in the corner of a photo on a secret foreign website, I saw his figure.
The image was very blurry.
But after knowing him for over ten years, I had an inexplicable intuition-it was He Zhou.
However, trying to find him through this photo was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
I needed a lot, a lot of money.
It was at this time.
Xu Wanning left Fu Jun, who had been injured for her, and went abroad to get married.
After Fu Jun recovered, he came to me.
…
Xu Wanning returned late at night, seven days later.
Fu Jun had specially sent someone to wait at the airport all day to bring her home.
Compared to the triumphant look she had when she left, Xu Wanning was much more haggard.
She wore a plain white dress, her expression stubborn: “Ah Jun, so you still remember me.”
Her gaze shifted to me in the corner, and suddenly she froze.
A moment later, she almost lost control and screamed:
“Zhou Jing, you shabby knockoff, what are you doing here?”
I looked at her in silence.
Fu Jun, beside me, said indifferently, “She’s my wife now.”
Xu Wanning stared in disbelief, her eyes reddening as she questioned, “What do you mean by this?”
“You said you’d wait for me forever, and now? You even like this kind of trash?”
She stood there stubbornly, tears falling one by one.
That face, seventy percent similar to mine, showed a fragile beauty.
Fu Jun turned his head and ordered me, “Push me over.”
The wheelchair was pushed in front of Xu Wanning.
Fu Jun took her hand, sighing softly:
“Ah Ning, you’ve been gone so long, of course I missed you too.”
“She’s just a cheap stand-in, don’t take it to heart.”
“So I’m just a stand-in, huh.”
She picked up the steaming cup of water from the table and splashed it straight onto my face.
“Now that I’m back, if I can’t stand her face, is that okay too?”
Fu Jun didn’t spare me a glance, only looked at her with indulgence: “Of course you can.”
The liquid ran down my neck, soaking my clothes, leaving a burning pain on my skin.
The pain was so intense I could barely stand, and tears welled up instantly from the physical sting.
“Why are you crying, pretending to be pitiful again, aren’t you?”
Xu Wanning looked at me with disgust, “So disgusting.”
Fu Jun finally deigned to look at me.
He glanced at my scalded face, his brows furrowing slightly.
He said calmly, “Zhou Jing, get out.”
