Chapter 3
The next morning, I received five hundred thousand from Fu Jun in my bank account.
No note, no explanation.
But I understood very well.
This was his compensation for Xu Wanning’s actions toward me.
I was no longer the naive, stubborn eighteen-year-old, dreaming of justice.
I accepted it calmly and gave him a thank you in return.
After my wounds healed, Fu Jun looked at my face and suddenly smiled: “Jingjing, I thought you’d always remain proud.”
I lowered my eyelashes obediently. “Mr. Fu, people always change.”
Tonight, there was a banquet.
It was specially prepared by Fu Jun for Xu Wanning.
After she went abroad and married, the Xu Family had gradually declined domestically, and Fu Jun wanted to use his connections to pave the way for Xu Wanning.
During the banquet, Xu Wanning’s former arch-enemy, Song Chen, suddenly stood up with a glass of wine.
“Xu Wanning, didn’t you go overseas to become a royal princess?”
“So why have you come back, tail between your legs, like a stray dog?”
Xu Wanning’s face instantly turned pale.
Song Chen had someone bring over a bottle of strong liquor and pushed it in front of her:
“Tonight’s banquet, I know exactly what Mr. Fu’s purpose is.”
“So, Xu Wanning, if you finish this bottle, all the grudges between us will be wiped clean.”
“If you plan to develop your career at home, maybe I can even help you.”
Xu Wanning’s eyes were rimmed red.
She looked at Fu Jun, tears trembling on the brink: “This is hard liquor. If I drink it, I’ll die.”
“Ah Jun, didn’t you say you’d always protect me?”
Fu Jun gently held her hand for comfort, looking at Song Chen:
“Ah Ning used to be stubborn, and indeed offended you. It’s normal for you to want to vent your anger.”
“This drink-let someone else have it as an apology for her.”
After speaking, he paused, then turned to me: “Jingjing.”
“Go drink the wine, then apologize to Song Chen.”
Song Chen leaned lazily on the back of his chair, one hand draped over it, watching with a look of amusement:
“If your wife agrees, I’ve got no objections.”
The wound on my face hadn’t fully healed yet. The doctor had given strict instructions.
No alcohol.
I froze in my seat, gripping my slightly trembling wrist, and met Fu Jun’s gaze in silence.
He said indifferently, “My assistant will transfer you one million later.”
The atmosphere stilled for a moment.
I stood up, picked up the bottle, and raised my head to pour it down.
The fierce burning from the liquor spread from my throat all the way down.
The strong fumes surged upward along my windpipe, stinging my eyes with tears.
Song Chen’s group of cronies clapped and jeered: “What a drinker! Truly a heroine among women!”
“Mr. Fu’s wife loves money this much-what, did you die of poverty in your last life?”
Their tone was full of mockery.
After I finished, I set down the bottle and bowed deeply to Song Chen:
“Mr. Song, I apologize for any past offenses and ask for your forgiveness.”
Song Chen toyed with the glass in his hand and laughed:
“One million-Mr. Fu really is generous.”
“Alright, Xu Wanning, our grudges are settled.”
