Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 14
“From now on, let me protect you,” Mr. Ghost suddenly said.
Jiang Chenyi flashed a small white smile and whispered, “What are you talking about? If a Taoist priest ever comes knocking, I’ll be the one to protect you.”
It was the truth. If one day, some ghostly aura drew the attention of a Taoist priest or a monk bent on breaking up lovers.
Jiang Chenyi would surely protect his Mr. Ghost.
“Mm,” Meng Loudi responded softly, his eyes and eyebrows lowered gently.
They changed into several outfits, finally choosing three sets that both found suitable.
Jiang Chenyi, carrying the clothes, walked to the counter to pay and suddenly asked, “Loudi, should I buy you a phone?”
The miss at the counter kept a gentle smile, apparently indifferent to their conversation – of course, only superficially.
Meng Loudi took the clothes and said, “There’s no need, I won’t use it anyway.”
“How can there be no need? If you have a phone, you can send me messages anytime, anywhere, and even exchange numbers with others, make some friends… You can’t always stay at home.” The young man took the card from the miss.
Jiang and Meng Loudi walked out together, “Let’s go look at phones anyway.”
“Alright.”
After the two walked away, the miss at the counter suddenly crouched down, frantically pressing her phone, exclaiming, “Ah, let me tell you, I saw an incredible pair today!”
“Here’s the thing, from their brief conversation, I deduced all this: a pretty young man, probably the bottom, who knows, he must have captivated an unattainable beauty of a man. Of course, this could just be part of their dynamics, after all, the beauty seemed to enjoy it, really…”
Unaware of the miss’s frenzy after they left, Jiang Chenyi had imagined a heart-wrenching, kidney-paining story spanning hundreds of thousands of words based on their brief dialogue.
The two were now standing in front of a Huawei phone counter.
Jiang, a young man who liked to support domestic products, always used domestically made phones, especially favoring Huawei.
And they happened to arrive during a promotion.
The young man looked at the row of phones, “Loudi, which one do you like?”
He was eyeing the latest models, which were certainly not cheap.
Meng Loudi frowned slightly, “Let’s look at others.”
“Oh, but I want to buy this one for you.” Jiang tried to persuade him, but his harmless brown eyes couldn’t do the trick.
“Good boy,” Meng Loudi said, reaching out to pat the young man’s head.
Jiang: “…”
Are you patting a dog?! And calling it good?
But Jiang only dared curse Mr. Ghost in his heart, unsure of what Meng Loudi might do to him if he actually spoke out…
Although Mr. Ghost always appeared like Mr. Nice Guy, Jiang felt that Meng had a bit of a bad streak in him.
Perhaps it was just the intuition of a small animal.
Thus, the small animal only dared curse internally.
Meng Loudi looked to the side, “Let’s go look over there.”
“Oh, but I want to buy this one for you.” Jiang looked reluctant.
For such a beauty, he definitely wanted to give him the best. What if the beauty ran off with someone else later?
Meng Loudi dragged him along without blinking an eye, taking out Jiang Chenyi’s phone to show to the counter miss, saying, “Could you find me this model in black?”
Jiang Chenyi’s phone, which he had bought over half a year ago and was no longer a new model, was a white one with a clear cover.
The counter miss said, “So, you want…”
Jiang quickly replied, “4G, 256GB storage.”
“Alright, please wait.”
Meng Loudi didn’t know much about phones, so he let Jiang handle it.
Jiang tilted his head, “Why do you want to buy this?”
Although he knew why, he just wanted to teasingly ask.
Mr. Ghost looked at the young man, his eyes gleaming with pride, and smiled softly, “I want to be just like you.”
The counter miss brought out the phone, and Mr. Ghost decisively chose that model.
Jiang paid, and compared to the latest model, this phone was much cheaper.
And it was also a couple’s set.
Saving money and getting a couple’s set made Jiang very happy.
Holding Meng Loudi’s hand, they continued to wander around.
Eventually, they reached the top floor, where there was a cinema.
Jiang looked at a promotional poster on the wall and asked, “Loudi, what do you want to watch?”
Meng Loudi: “Do you want to watch these things?”
“This is something couples must do. Come on, see if there’s anything you like.” The young man seemed very excited.
Couples’ activities.
Mr. Ghost muttered to himself, finding it quite interesting.
He too looked at the promotional posters.
Jiang, suffering from decision fatigue and not knowing if the movies were any good, found it difficult to choose.
“This one?” His slender white finger tapped on a poster.
The young man looked over; it was a somewhat gloomy poster featuring a small wooden house, unclear what genre of movie it was.
“Okay.”
Since Jiang couldn’t decide, they went with Mr. Ghost’s choice.
They bought movie tickets, popcorn, and two large cups of soda.
The two entered hand in hand.
Then, at the start, Jiang realized it was a unique horror film.
But Jiang wasn’t scared; he was a man who had watched all the Resident Evil movies without flinching.
Jiang just found some scenes on the screen a bit disgusting.
Meng Loudi watched the movie screen intently.
The two just watched.
“It’s a bit disgusting,” Jiang whispered.
Mr. Ghost smiled, “Shall we go out?”
“No, let’s continue watching. We can’t quit halfway through.” Jiang spoke with conviction.
Meng Loudi looked at him, “Mm, it’s actually quite interesting.”
“Yeah, the plot is good; it’s just that these scenes are too disgusting.” The young man stuffed popcorn into his mouth.
Mr. Ghost watched the young man eating with relish and suddenly opened his mouth, “Ah~”
Jiang, about to put popcorn into his mouth, redirected it to Meng Loudi’s mouth instead. After feeding him, he eagerly asked, “How is it? Tasty?”
Mr. Ghost chewed the popcorn slowly, perhaps it was an illusion, but he felt a faint sweetness spreading.
“Tasty.”
Jiang sighed, somewhat melancholic as he stuffed popcorn into his mouth, “Don’t lie to me, huh? Can’t you not taste it?”
“I can taste a bit now, though it might also be an illusion,” Mr. Ghost said cheerily.
“Ah, then eat some more; maybe you’ll completely recover your sense of taste after finishing,” the young man quickly stuffed more popcorn into Mr. Ghost’s hands.
The two happily watched the movie to the end.
As the movie ended and people slowly left,
“Let’s go,” the young man patted Mr. Ghost.
Mr. Ghost hummed a response, then suddenly leaned over and quickly kissed the young man’s lips.
“Something couples must do.” He even felt the need to explain.
Jiang’s heart pounded.
Mr. Ghost grabbed his wrist, leading him out.
“So, Chenyi, what shall we do next?”
“Is it almost six? Are you hungry?” the young man asked.
He had just eaten a bunch of popcorn and drank soda, but his stomach wasn’t so easily filled.
“If you’re hungry, let’s go eat,” Mr. Ghost said.
So, the two ordered a large bowl of noodles at a seafood noodle shop, eating cozily together.
Of course, they maintained a subtle degree of intimacy, not easily noticeable as a couple unless one looked closely.
Mr. Ghost occasionally took a sip of soup and a bite of noodles, spending the rest of the time watching the young man.
Jiang, feeling self-conscious from being watched, put down his chopsticks and licked his lips.
His crimson tongue swept over his oily, plump lips.
The man’s eyes darkened.
“Loudi, stop watching me. Eat.”
“No need, I’m not hungry. Just trying a bit for the taste,” Mr. Ghost propped his chin, watching the young man tenderly.
“Can you taste it?” Jiang was extremely interested in everything about Mr. Ghost.
Following this progress, maybe it wouldn’t be long before Mr. Ghost could become indistinguishable from a normal person.
Initially just a transparent figure, then an invisible body, followed by a voice, colors, taste… Gradually, Meng Loudi would possess everything a human has.
“Mm, it has a fresh taste, but I feel it’s not strong, just barely perceivable,” Meng Loudi honestly replied.
Jiang looked at him, the corners of his mouth curving, “Good, as long as you can taste something, take it slow, and you’ll be just like me.”
“Mm,” Meng Loudi watched the young man, the smile on his face warming his heart.
Wanting everything he had before, wanting to be like this person, to have everything one should have.
Taste, warmth, tears, and everything…
If he could be like a normal person, the young man wouldn’t leave him, right?
Although their relationship was now confirmed, Mr. Ghost still worried that one day, being a ghost, he would be abandoned by the human.
If it really turned out that way.
Meng Loudi couldn’t be sure he wouldn’t do something irreversible.
He wanted to possess this person.
This young man who had been alone before.
After finishing their meal, there was nothing else to browse, so they packed up to head home.
Jiang Chenyi held Mr. Ghost’s hand, walking forward.
It was already dark, and the moonlight cast a thin glow over Meng Loudi’s body, making him strikingly beautiful.
“I feel like I’m dreaming,” Jiang kicked a stone on the ground.
“What kind of dream?”
“A beautiful dream. To actually have someone to accompany me, to live with me… Really, I never even thought about it before.” Jiang turned to look at him, his face content as he nodded to himself.
“Before, they all said to wait for the country to assign a partner. I thought it was a lie, but it turned out to be true, and he’s so handsome, and he can cook… Ah, it’s too wonderful.”
Jiang was very happy.
Jiang had thought he would die alone, but in his lifetime, he managed to find a future partner.
Although the species wasn’t quite right, he was already very satisfied.
Meng Loudi watched the young man talking to himself, the corners of his mouth curling up, thinking: What is this silly little thing thinking?
Could there really be such good things in the world?
Mr. Ghost thought to himself that one day, he would make Chenyi understand that there’s no such thing as a free lunch.
But for now, he definitely needed to keep this little guy tightly in his grasp, make sure he couldn’t run away, and then reveal his true nature.
So Mr. Ghost still appeared as serene as a gentle breeze and bright moon, smiling sweetly at his lover.
“Then let’s keep this beautiful dream going,” the deep male voice sounded like a vow.
Jiang nodded vigorously, “Yes, yes, if this really is a dream, then I definitely don’t want to wake up!”
He wanted to live out his days in a beautiful dream!
The two laughed and joked all the way home.
