After My Roommate Dumped His Online Boyfriend on Me - Chapter 7
By the following summer, Fang Jindong’s persistent rehabilitation had brought him to the point where he could stand.
I went back to campus for my graduation ceremony.
As an outstanding alumnus and entrepreneur, he had been invited back to give a speech too.
“He must be the youngest alumnus they’ve ever invited back to speak, right?”
“Yeah. He’s only five years older than us, and he’s built such a huge company. I’m jealous. I’d love to work there.”
“Speaking of which, do you remember Ying Chen from Class One? Didn’t he intern at our senior’s company?”
“I know, I know! He stole something really valuable. He was sentenced ages ago.”
“Oh, you all know?”
“Everybody does. He’s been in for about a year now, right? Another seven or eight before he’s out?”
“About that. Tsk. You really can’t judge people by their faces.”
“Stop talking. He’s coming out. Holy shit, he’s hot! Tall, long legs. Better-looking than in the photos!”
“Don’t know if I should say this, but he looks like he’d be really good at screwing…”
Sitting in front of them, I went red instantly.
You could tell that just by looking?
That damn man. My lower back was still aching.
When he’d been in the wheelchair, he’d mainly focused on taking care of me. I’d liked that plenty.
Now that he didn’t need the wheelchair, we’d moved to a game of two halves.
Just when the first half ended, the second half of his attentive service began.
Those first comments truly hadn’t lied.
But after Ying Chen went to prison, I hadn’t seen the comments for a long time.
I’d fallen seriously ill around then.
In my daze, there was always a confused noise around my ears, as though a lot of people were speaking.
Things like, “Oh no, the system is trying to force cannon fodder out,” and “The world feels like it’s falling apart. Can the protagonist really have that much power?”
Until one day, all those voices vanished.
In their place was a warm embrace.
So much like Fang Jindong’s.
When I opened my eyes again, to my surprise, Fang Jindong could already walk quite well.
I distinctly remembered that before I fell unconscious, he could only manage a few steps.
After the ceremony, Fang Jindong and I walked along a tree-lined path on campus.
I made a rectangular frame with my hands in front of my eyes.
“Fang Jindong, you’d never guess. I used to be able to see words right here.”
He held my hand. “Words? In the sky?”
“Sort of. But I haven’t seen them in ages.”
“Ah, just take it as nonsense. How could there be words in the sky?”
There was the faintest snap of fingers.
The comments appeared again.
[Girls, we’re back to watch Shengxia over dinner.]
[Yep, yep. I got my university acceptance letter today! Came to share the good news with you all.]
[I’ve got good news too. After my divorce, I went back to do a doctorate. I’m graduating this year, just like Shengxia!]
[Oh my, congratulations! You’re all amazing!]
[Sigh. When I think about how Shengxia used to be able to see us and can’t anymore, it still makes me a bit sad.]
[It’s all right. He’s doing his best to live his life. So are we.]
My eyes went wide. “Oh my God. You’re all incredible.”
[Shengxia, you can see us?!]
“Yes. Yes, I can!”
[AAAAH, that’s wonderful. You have to be happy.]
[Yes. We’ve watched you come all this way. You’re already making a name for yourself as an architectural designer now, Shengxia.]
My eyes burned again.
“You too. Everyone, be happy.”
Fang Jindong drew me gently into his arms. He didn’t ask why I was crying, as though he’d known from the very beginning who my tears were falling for.
The sunflower diamond ring on my ring finger shone.
I thought that we would all find happiness.
The End.
