After My Roommate Dumped His Online Boyfriend on Me - Chapter 6
“Hey, aren’t you that guy from the café…?”
Ying Chen recognized Fang Jindong too.
Fang Jindong didn’t spare him a glance. When his gentle eyes fell on me, they were full of pain on my behalf.
“Shengxia, don’t cry…”
He came to my side and took my hand.
I kept my head down, not daring to look at him.
Gasps rose around us.
“Shit, shit. We backed the wrong guy!”
“OMG, you scared me! He dared steal jewelry that expensive?”
“Doubao, Doubao, is there any chance I won’t get fired after offending the boss’s boyfriend?”
Ying Chen understood at once. “Mu Shengxia, you lied to me?”
Fang Jindong lifted his eyes to him. His gaze settled on the brooch, icy beyond measure.
“Sir, why are you wearing jewelry I designed for my boyfriend?”
Ying Chen screamed hysterically. “He’s not your boyfriend! He’s a liar! I’m the boyfriend you dated online!”
“He’s been lying to you all along!”
Everything around us fell silent.
My heart gave up all hope.
[A celebration for everyone! Our baby finally told the male lead the truth!]
[Drop dead already, cannon fodder.]
[Tsk, tsk. The colleagues who didn’t come to work today must regret it. There’s been more than enough drama to feast on.]
[What a shame. I was getting quite fond of little cannon fodder Shengxia.]
[Me too. I even remember his name now. Mu Shengxia.]
[Ah, our Shengxia. Be a male lead in your next life. Don’t suffer like this again. Raising yourself all the way from childhood was hard enough.]
[Good night, Mu Shengxia.]
[Good night, Mu Shengxia.]
If this was how it all had to end…
I…
I didn’t want to accept it.
The hand holding mine tightened suddenly.
Fang Jindong.
“I don’t care.”
Ying Chen stared at him as though he were an idiot. His voice shook with disbelief. “What did you say?”
“I said, I don’t care.”
“I don’t care whether he lied to me. I only care whether he likes me.”
“Whether he, Mu Shengxia, likes me.”
The last sentence seemed directed at someone else. He gave my name particular weight, each syllable clear.
The comments flooded my vision again.
[Holy SHIT! That’s how he breaks out of this? Everybody, FEEL THAT!]
[Older boyfriends for the win! Long live pure love!]
[Older boyfriends for the win! Long live pure love!]
[Older boyfriends for the win! Long live pure love!]
[Older boyfriends for the win! Long live pure love!]
“Shengxia, let’s go.”
In his office, I stood with my head lowered, unable to stop crying.
“I’m sorry… boo-hoo. Fang Jindong, I-I didn’t mean to lie to you…”
“Ying Chen used my photos to deceive you first. That day, he t-tricked me into going to meet you. He told me to break up with you for him… boo-hoo… I didn’t mean to lie to you.”
Fang Jindong sighed and patted my back gently.
“But you didn’t break up with me that day, did you?”
My sobbing hitched.
No, because the comments said I’d die if I rejected you, boo-hoo-hoo.
How could I tell him that? Nobody would believe it.
I cried even harder.
Fang Jindong didn’t know what he’d said or done wrong.
He suddenly looked at a complete loss.
“I’m not blaming you for lying, Shengxia.”
“I liked you the moment I first saw your photo.”
“Everything had gone smoothly for me all my life. When something happened to my legs, I genuinely couldn’t come to terms with it.”
“During those dark days, that photo of you holding sunflowers made me feel there might still be something worth living for.”
“What I had with him before barely counted as a relationship. We hardly talked. Only when I transferred money could I get a few good mornings and good nights.”
“I kept thinking, how could someone with such a happy smile like money so much? Not that money is bad. I just thought, thank goodness I have plenty. I can buy so many more good mornings and good nights.”
I looked at him through a blur of tears.
“Y-you liked me all along?”
“Yes.”
“And after you met me in person, you still liked me?”
“Even more.”
“But I lied to you at the start. Doesn’t that hurt?”
“I’d already guessed.”
“Huh? When?”
He pretended to think. “When you called me ‘baby’ for the first time, I suppose.”
I was even more shocked. “Boo-hoo. That early?”
“H-how much money did you send him back then?”
“Why do you ask, Shengxia?”
“Get it b-back! It was s-supposed to be for me!”
He laughed. “That reminds me, Shengxia. Come see the rest of your gifts.”
“I started designing them before I’d met you. I chose every gemstone myself. At last, they’re all finished.”
In a large black velvet jewelry box inside the drawer lay a necklace, earrings, and a bracelet from the same sunflower gemstone collection.
On their backs was that familiar, sweeping signature.
Winter.
I scrubbed hard at my tears. As something clicked into place, I started getting angry.
“Fang Jindong!”
“We’re even!”
He looked puzzled. “What?”
“You hid your identity and lied to me too! Was it fun listening to me gush about you like some little fanboy?”
“Hahahaha. A little.”
From his wheelchair, he leaned forward and hugged me, burying his head greedily against my chest.
“We’re not even. I’m the one who owes you.”
“You pulled me out of that hell. Shengxia, I’ll owe you for the rest of my life.”
