Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 13
The young man led him into the clothing store.
“See if there’s anything you like, Loudi!” Jiang Chenyi was as excited as if he’d had a shot of adrenaline.
Of course, he was excited-he was buying something for his beloved!
Jiang had saved up his salary for years, and now it finally had a purpose.
“Alright.” Meng Loudi earnestly examined the styles in the store.
Nearby, two girls browsing clothes whispered to each other as they watched them.
This section mainly featured men’s clothing, and it seemed they were picking something for a family member or boyfriend.
Jiang paid no mind to the glances from others, focusing on the clothes on the rack. “This one’s nice, a patchwork casual outfit. This, this, they could make a couple’s outfit. Let me see…”
A short-haired girl in a cute skirt approached and asked, “Excuse me, may I disturb you for a moment?”
Jiang hadn’t been approached by a girl in a long time, and he was momentarily taken aback.
“Uh, me?” The young man widened his eyes in disbelief, pointing at himself.
“Yes, you!” The short-haired girl’s face turned red.
“Is there something you need help with?” Jiang’s tone was extremely gentle.
The short-haired girl stammered, “Well, um, it’s just…”
The other girl, who had been watching, stepped over. They were dressed alike, and she seemed much more straightforward. “We want to buy a shirt for our brother, but we’re not sure if it’ll fit. We think your friend has a similar build to our brother. Could you help us out?”
Help out?
Jiang was baffled.
Seeing the young man’s bewildered expression, the short-haired girl instinctively bowed, “Please!”
“Ah, well, let me ask him, okay? If Loudi doesn’t mind, I think it’s fine.” Jiang smiled awkwardly.
“Alright, thank you.” The long-haired girl expressed her gratitude sincerely.
Though Jiang felt it was a bit inappropriate, the girls’ request was sincere, and they even said “please.”
He walked over to where Mr. Ghost was selecting clothes, tugging at his sleeve to get his attention.
Jiang Chenyi scratched his head, his gaze wandering, “Um, Loudi, there are two girls who want to ask for your help. Is that okay?”
Meng Loudi raised an eyebrow, “What kind of help?”
“Just to try on a shirt, to see if it fits.” Jiang scratched his cheek, feeling inexplicably awkward, even though it wasn’t his request.
What kind of strange chemistry was at play here?
It was odd to be asked to ask Meng Loudi this.
Meng Loudi looked at him, a smile playing on his lips, “What about Chenyi?”
“What?”
“Does Chenyi want me to do it?”
“I think it’s fine, just a small favor for them.” Jiang felt like running away.
Meng Loudi suddenly reached out, pulling him into an embrace, “Ask me, Chenyi. If you ask, I’ll agree.”
His cool voice carried a mischievous undertone.
Jiang: “…”
So, was there some strange chemistry happening with Meng Loudi too?
Their Mr. Ghost was supposed to be a gentle, kind, and very approachable type!
Why was he saying something so mortifying in public like “ask me”?
Suddenly, Jiang felt his shame level skyrocketing.
Sensing the confusion in his embrace, Meng Loudi laughed, gently patting the young man’s short hair, “Since it’s Chenyi’s wish, I’ll do it. It’s those two girls over there, right? I’ll go then. Chenyi, make sure to pick out some nice clothes.”
In an instant, the mischievous and domineering persona switched back to the gentle and kind one.
Jiang had every reason to suspect that his Mr. Ghost had been influenced by some strange internet virus.
After all, there were so many stories online about “domineering CEOs” and “charming princes” and “cold emperors.”
Could it be that Meng Loudi had read some peculiar stories without him knowing?
Mr. Ghost released the young man, who was still in a daze, and gracefully approached the two girls.
“Excuse me, is there something you need help with?” Mr. Ghost remained gentle with others, but there was an undeniable sense of detachment.
His eyes no longer held warmth.
The long-haired girl picked up the shirt draped over her arm, “We hope you can try this on for us. Thank you!”
“You’re welcome.” The man smiled, taking the shirt and heading into the fitting room.
He remembered Jiang’s words-to act like a human.
The two girls breathed a sigh of relief.
“You were right. If we had asked directly, we would have been politely refused,” the long-haired girl said seriously. “He’s even more intimidating than our brother.”
The short-haired girl sighed wearily, her eyes glistening with tears, “Yes, luckily I made the right call. Now we can confirm, those two are a couple~”
The last sentence was filled with delight, as if she’d discovered something remarkable.
The long-haired girl nodded, “Yes, they came in holding hands, and that gentle young man was specifically picking matching outfits.”
“Exactly, exactly, they look so good together. I think that refined scoundrel’s aura softens by eight degrees when he’s with the young man~” The short-haired girl clutched her chest, sighing, “I’m starting to believe in love again.”
“Suit yourself. I still want him to try on these two outfits for us. If they both look good, we’ll buy them and split the cost.”
“Alright, alright, then I’ll go chat with that handsome guy~” The short-haired girl flashed a playful smile and walked briskly over to Jiang Chenyi.
Jiang was still in a daze.
The girl’s sweet voice brought him back to reality, “Thank you.”
“Uh, no need to thank me, it’s no big deal. Even if I hadn’t asked, he would have agreed. Also, you don’t need to be so formal with me. We’re probably only seven or eight years apart.”
Jiang smiled, his brown eyes sparkling with youthful energy.
“Wow, have you already graduated from college?” The short-haired girl was surprised.
“I graduated three years ago. What? Do I look young?” Jiang grinned.
The short-haired girl nodded, unabashed in her praise, “You really do look young. I thought you were only twenty.”
As she spoke, her cheeks flushed.
Of course, Jiang wouldn’t narcissistically assume she was blushing because of him.
The most plausible reason was that this short-haired girl had a mild social anxiety disorder.
Or perhaps she just blushed when talking to the opposite sex.
“I’m already twenty-five, almost thirty.” The young man tried to keep the atmosphere light.
The short-haired girl pursed her lips. She might offend him, but she wanted to ask.
“So, can I ask, are you and that gentleman in a relationship?”
She seemed to have made a big decision, trembling slightly, her head lowered, not daring to look at him.
This was definitely offensive, and she was prepared to be scolded.
“Yes, is it that obvious?” The young man’s voice remained light.
The girl suddenly looked up, her eyes sparkling, her tone cheerful, “Yes, it’s really obvious!”
“That’s good. I want him to receive the treatment he deserves.” Jiang Chenyi’s eyes crinkled with a smile.
The girl took a deep breath, “Okay! I understand. I wish you both happiness!”
She placed a candy in his hand and hurried back to her companion.
The long-haired girl was still talking to Meng Loudi.
“Thank you very much.”
“You’re welcome. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving now.” Meng Loudi’s inherent coldness was almost palpable.
The two girls didn’t have the courage to ask him anything else, so they took their clothes and sheepishly left the store.
Mr. Ghost watched the two slightly annoying girls leave, subtly furrowing his brow, and walked over to where Jiang was picking out clothes. “What did that girl say to you?”
Talking to strange women.
Without looking at him, Jiang hadn’t even seen him after he changed clothes.
“Nothing much. She just asked if Mr. Meng Loudi was Mr. Jiang Chenyi’s partner.” Jiang tilted his head, looking innocent.
“And how did Mr. Jiang Chenyi respond?” Meng Loudi was a bit nervous.
Because he knew that in this era, this society, the acceptance of “people like them” wasn’t very high.
So, as a member of society, how would Chenyi respond?
Jiang grinned, “Of course, I said yes. I even asked her if it was obvious. She seriously told me it was really obvious, since we walked in holding hands.”
“Won’t that cause trouble?” Mr. Ghost held the young man’s wrist, his brow slightly furrowed.
Jiang held up the chocolate in his hand, “What trouble could there be? I’m just an ordinary person, not attracting much attention. Even if people give me strange looks, it doesn’t matter, right? Besides, that girl wished us happiness, saying ‘I wish you both happiness.'”
The young man’s eyes shone with an extraordinary brilliance, making Mr. Ghost’s heart race.
“She’s probably a fujoshi1 or something. I’m really grateful for their existence, allowing people like us to receive support.” Jiang slowly unwrapped the chocolate, a small piece of Dove dark chocolate.
He took a bite and offered the other half to Meng Loudi, “Here, this is a blessing candy.”
Without hesitation, Mr. Ghost swallowed the chocolate, looking at the gentle young man before him, “Alright, but if it weren’t for me, you probably wouldn’t need that support.”
“Right, if it weren’t for you, I’d probably still be struggling in the single dog pit~”
Jiang shrugged, then picked up the clothes beside him, “Hurry and try them on. If they fit, we’ll buy them!”
“Do I get one too? You can just buy for yourself.” Meng Loudi, as the virtuous “wife,” naturally wanted to consider Jiang’s finances. Money should be saved when possible.
“What nonsense are you talking about? Of course, I’m buying for you too. Otherwise, it feels weird.” Jiang pushed him towards the fitting room.
The clothes he picked had a youthful style, but on Meng Loudi, they looked exceptionally good and fitting.
Jiang thought sourly, most people have clothes that choose them, but for Mr. Ghost, he chooses the clothes.
After changing, Meng Loudi let his Jiang go in to change as well.
The look was quite nice.
Standing together, they looked great.
One was gentle yet sharp, the other warm and soft.
Standing in front of the mirror, Jiang Chenyi looked at the two of them, “Why do I feel like you have a bit more edge?”
Meng Loudi looked at him, smiling, “Isn’t that good?”
“I can’t say.” Jiang just felt a sense of crisis.
But Jiang wasn’t fazed. Mr. Ghost was clueless about the things between men.
They could continue to maintain a harmonious living environment.
