Demonic King of the Metropolis - Chapter 6 - Scared? Then Scram!
“Scram!” Zhu Nan bellowed at Tang Jie, saying, “Don’t spoil my fun here, or you’ll regret it.”
“Oh no!” Tang Jie displayed a frightened demeanor and said, “I’m so scared.”
Upon hearing Tang Jie’s words, Chen Shuran glanced towards the alleyway and then back at Tang Jie. The expression on his face truly seemed one of fear. Any faint hope that had rekindled in her heart was extinguished once again; it appeared her father had indeed chosen the wrong person-he was nothing more than a gigolo living off others.
With this thought, Chen Shuran cast a resentful glance at Tang Jie, bit her lip, and fell silent, her eyes once again filled with despair.
“If you’re scared, then scram!” Zhu Nan declared as he pulled out a stack of money from his wallet and flung it at Tang Jie, saying, “I’m in a good mood today. Take this money and go find someone at the nightclub. Don’t spoil my mood here.”
The money scattered all over the ground, easily more than twenty bills. Under normal circumstances, anyone would be thrilled to pick them up and leave.
However, Tang Jie remained still, quietly watching Zhu Nan without a word.
“What’s the matter? I’ve given you the money, why aren’t you leaving?” Zhu Nan felt uneasy; the young man before him seemed more complex than he appeared. It seemed the longer he stayed, the more disadvantageous it was for Zhu Nan’s next move, prompting him to bark an order.
“I never said I wanted the money,” Tang Jie replied, spreading his hands in a helpless gesture.
“Then what the hell do you want?” Zhu Nan’s temper flared up, frustrated that he couldn’t proceed with the beauty that was right before his eyes because of this young man, his impatience getting the better of him.
“I want her…” Tang Jie pointed slowly at Chen Shuran, who was shrinking into a corner, and spoke deliberately.
Huh? Chen Shuran’s eyes suddenly widened with anger as she stared at Tang Jie, this worthless gigolo who couldn’t even protect himself and yet dared to flirt with her at such a time. However, she could see a change in his expression, his usual carefree smile still on his lips, but now there was a hint of coldness in his eyes, a stark contrast to the man she had seen before.
“What?” Zhu Nan was also taken aback. He should have known that this young man’s appearance here was no good sign. He had actually believed that Tang Jie was just passing by and thought that money could send him away. Little did he expect that Tang Jie’s target was the beauty he was about to claim.
With that thought, Zhu Nan immediately grew furious. “Are you tired of living, daring to compete with the young master over a woman?”
In fact, Zhu Nan’s real intent in stalling was to summon the group of hoodlums who were keeping watch outside the alley.
If he had that group of thugs backing him up, not only would Zhu Nan not give Tang Jie money, but it would be considered quite good if he could even speak nicely. Not beating you up and throwing you out is not young master Zhu Nan’s style.
“So what if I am?” The clever Tang Jie had already guessed Zhu Nan’s little ploy but didn’t care.
If the dozen or so hoodlums could actually pose a threat to Tang Jie, then the skills he had learned from the old man over the past decade were worthless. If the old man knew his disciple was being bullied by a bunch of hoodlums, he’d probably spit out blood and kill himself by running into a block of tofu.
“Damn it, don’t be ungrateful. Take the money and leave now. I won’t hold it against you, otherwise, you’ll see what happens,” Zhu Nan said confidently. His loud shout earlier had done its job, and the young hoodlums following him had heard the noise and were on their way.
“Are you calling your gang of scoundrels?” Tang Jie asked with a slight smile, nonchalantly.
“You…” Zhu Nan was momentarily speechless. He indeed intended to do so, but he hadn’t expected Tang Jie to be so indifferent, his calm and mysterious demeanor adding to Zhu Nan’s apprehension.
“So what!” Zhu Nan gritted his teeth, looking at Tang Jie fiercely.
“If you think that bunch of trash can be of any use, just call them. I’ll let you call. Sometimes, having more people isn’t advantageous,” Tang Jie paused, then continued, “Are you planning to gang up on me?”
“Hmph!” Zhu Nan snorted coldly, not replying, but indeed, that was exactly what he was thinking.
“Typical of the despicable Young Master Zhu, coming up with such cruel and inhumane ideas. Fine, I’ll let you gang up, but it’ll be me alone against all of you,” Tang Jie said with a laugh, looking completely harmless.
Chen Shuran was stunned as she watched the anger in Tang Jie’s eyes fade, replaced by confusion. The young man before her, only a few years older than herself, could he really…? As she watched him, a sense of anticipation unexpectedly grew within her. Her hands, which had been tightly clutching her body, slowly relaxed; the tension she had felt was no longer as palpable. She suddenly realized that Tang Jie seemed to exude a powerful presence.
Zhu Nan, observing Tang Jie’s expression, wished he could rush forward and beat him to a pulp right then and there. However, he still managed to maintain some semblance of rationality.
Although he was arrogant, he also cherished his own life. He wouldn’t dare engage in a fight, let alone handle even a minor injury without feeling significant pain.
One could say Zhu Nan was a classic fool. If it weren’t for the Deputy Director of the G City Police Station standing behind him, it’s likely his reckless character would have gotten him killed many times over.
But on the other hand, if it weren’t for the support he had from behind, he wouldn’t have developed such a personality.
“These idiots, usually so quick to hear everything, now all seem as if they’ve gone deaf.” After waiting in vain, Zhu Nan couldn’t help but grow impatient.
“Are they still not here? If that’s the case, then I’m taking this girl with me,” Tang Jie declared, striding forward and completely ignoring Zhu Nan as he moved towards Chen Shuran.
Reaching her side, Tang Jie looked at her still panicked face, took off his shirt, and draped it over her shoulders. With a teasing smile still on his face, he slowly said, “Let’s go, I’ve won, and now you belong to me.”
With a playful laugh, Tang Jie held Chen Shuran’s gaze. It took her a moment to respond, a blush creeping over her pretty face. Just as she was about to retort, she felt her delicate hand grasped by a warm one. With a gentle pull, she was led away by Tang Jie.
“You can’t take her away.” Zhu Nan, unwilling to let his prize slip through his fingers, found some unknown courage and stepped forward, shouting in an attempt to stop Tang Jie from taking Chen Shuran.
