- Chapter 34 - Singing Conquest in Guanjian Street Part 1
About ten minutes later, Chen Shuran cheered excitedly inside the car, “Haha, we lost him, we lost him!”
“Heh… I told you, I guarantee he won’t even see the tail lights of our car.” Although they had lost Wei Dong, Tang Jie didn’t slow down the car.
It wasn’t until they drove into G City that Tang Jie switched places with Chen Shuran, as he wasn’t familiar with the streets of G City. Although he had been to Guanjian Street before, he had only taken a taxi there.
So, the two switched places, allowing Chen Shuran to drive slowly towards Guanjian Street.
Returning to Guanjian Street again, Tang Jie didn’t feel much. He was just captivated by the bustling and vibrant cityscape.
After all, having followed the old man for over ten years and continuously undergoing all sorts of inhumane training since he could remember, he usually spent his extra time in a backward little village unless he was out on a mission.
Even if the old man occasionally sent him to the city for a mission, he never stayed for long, usually rushing back after a day or two.
Now, the old man had given him a task that would last for three months, and after completing this mission, Tang Jie could do whatever he wanted. This made Tang Jie feel as if his happy springtime had arrived.
“Wei Dong, you’re so slow!” Leaning against the Maserati, Chen Shuran smiled as a silver Porsche slowly approached.
The car door opened slowly, and Wei Dong stepped out with a sullen face, full of reluctance.
“Hey, Wei Dong, don’t forget your promise!” With the victory, Chen Shuran was naturally in a good mood, smiling as she reminded him.
“Hmph! I remember.” Wei Dong’s face was dark, silently blaming himself for being too careless earlier. If not, how could he have lost to Chen Shuran?
In truth, even if Wei Dong gave it his all, it was unlikely he could beat Tang Jie. Over the past nineteen years, Tang Jie had been molded into a versatile person by the old man.
While Wei Dong had achieved some success in racing, he treated it as a hobby rather than receiving professional training. How could he compare to someone as exceptional as Tang Jie?
“Wei-Ge… did we really lose just like that?” A seductive woman, who had been sitting in the Porsche, stepped out of the car. Seeing the outcome, she worried about the promised 100,000 yuan from Wei Dong slipping away, and anxiously approached to ask.
“Are you blind?” Wei Dong, in a foul mood, turned to glare fiercely at the woman, snapping at her angrily.
“I… I…” The woman’s words caught in her throat as Wei Dong glared at her. Although she didn’t say anything on the surface, she inwardly cursed Wei Dong, thinking she should have bitten off his life source back on the highway.
Wei Dong didn’t care what the woman thought. After shouting, he turned away with a face full of unwillingness.
“Here, take it!” Following Chen Shuran’s cue, Tang Jie handed a megaphone to Wei Dong.
“You…” Wei Dong gritted his teeth, looking at Tang Jie with an innocent expression. If looks could kill, Tang Jie, whom Wei Dong saw as a destitute lad, would have died countless times already.
“What, trying to renege on your loss?” Chen Shuran stepped forward, standing shoulder to shoulder with Tang Jie, fixing her gaze on Wei Dong as she spoke slowly.
“Hmph, do you think I’m that kind of person? It’s just a song, right? Hand it over.” Wei Dong snatched the megaphone from Tang Jie’s hand, his face dark, and slowly walked towards Guanqian Street.
At that moment, the other two cars, which had been left behind by Chen Shuran and Wei Dong, also arrived at Guanqian Street.
Seeing Wei Dong walk towards Guanqian Street with the megaphone and a sullen face, they immediately understood Wei Dong had lost the race.
With eyes full of disbelief, the other two men chose not to get out of their cars, fully aware of Wei Dong’s mood. They knew that meeting up with Wei Dong now would only result in another round of scolding.
“Finally, you’ve found a way to determine the winner and loser…”
Standing on Guanqian Street, Wei Dong turned on the megaphone in his hand and slowly began to sing.
“The cost of winning and losing is mutual destruction…”
To be fair, Wei Dong was not bad at singing. At least he didn’t go off-key.
Even so, as a member of the rich second generation, Wei Dong was used to being respectfully treated by his peers wherever he went.
Singing in a karaoke bar would have been fine, where he could showcase his vocal talents, but doing so on a busy street with many passersby was a whole different story!
Hearing Wei Dong’s voice, curious glances were directed his way by those walking by. Embarrassed by the attention, Wei Dong’s face turned crimson, and he wished he could find a hole to hide in.
“Just like that, you’ve conquered me, cutting off all my retreats.”
“My mood is firm, but my decision is foolish.”
As Wei Dong reached the song’s climax, Chen Shuran, standing behind him, suddenly clutched her stomach and burst out laughing.
When the song ended, Wei Dong tossed the megaphone onto the street, his face flushed, and ran back to his silver Porsche.
He quickly started the car and sped away from Guanqian Street, leaving behind bewildered pedestrians and a hysterically laughing Chen Shuran.
“Hey, why did that young man leave? I hadn’t heard enough yet; sing another one!”
“Wow, he’s so brave to sing in front of so many people. I wonder if he was confessing to a girl. If that girl were me, how lucky I’d be!”
“Times are tough; even someone that handsome doesn’t have a job and has to sing in the streets!”
Gentle discussions arose among the crowd, from smitten young girls to elderly women, as everyone speculated about who Wei Dong was and why he suddenly appeared to sing a song and then dashed away.
