Chapter 7
I brought my best friend Zhao Jing and followed the address Chen Yao had given us to find the hotel.
Through the sparse greenery and scattered streetlights, I saw Jiang Du and Chen Yao standing at the hotel entrance.
They seemed to be arguing, and Chen Yao was stopping a taxi, ready to leave.
Jiang Du draped his coat over her shoulders and whispered something in her ear, coaxing her into a smile.
A child selling flowers approached with roses.
Even from a distance, I could clearly hear the little girl say:
“Uncle, buy a flower for your wife.”
Chen Yao pouted, “I’m not his wife.”
Jiang Du paid for the flower and stuffed it into her hand, saying something.
From reading his lips, I could tell he said, “You are.”
I held up my phone and recorded the scene.
Chen Yao went upstairs.
Jiang Du was on the phone.
It was me calling him.
“Honey, there’s still some work at the company. I’ll be back in half an hour.”
I said, “Let’s get a divorce.”
From the other end came a soft coaxing voice: “Honey, don’t be mad. I’ll stop by the cake shop later and bring you your favorite cheesecake.”
I looked up at the bright moon overhead and calmly said, “Jiang Du, turn around, I’m right behind you.”
