A Strange Transmigration Novel - Chapter 4
Chapter 4
I spent two years acting as Shi Xu’s “Follower.”
Just as I was starting to suspect his White Moonlight would never graduate, the big data algorithm pushed a video to my feed.
A girl stood in the middle of an airport, wearing a pale yellow dress with her hair in loose, fluffy curls, her smile bright and radiant.
The caption read:
[Three years of studying abroad in Germany will surely make our five years feel as interesting as seven.]
[Hahaha, these have truly been the most meaningful ten years of my life!]
My sixth sense told me this was Shi Xu’s White Moonlight.
No wonder Shi Xu couldn’t wait for her.
If I were him, I wouldn’t be able to wait either.
I swiped past the video, but a sense of unease settled in my chest.
It felt like I was about to lose this five-hundred-thousand-a-month job.
As my mind wandered, my head began to ache.
It felt like my brain was finally starting to function.
Then, I heard a long-lost mechanical voice.
In over a decade, the System had only ever spoken two sentences to me.
The first was the plot introduction.
The second was: “Hurry up and fake your death before they get back.”
I asked, “Do I have to die? Is there a Plan B?”
The System ignored me.
I continued to mutter, “You’re so cold. Can’t you give me a bit more plot guidance?”
The System left me with one final sentence.
A sentence that was utterly useless to the plot: “I’ve truly had enough of these days being controlled by a psychiatrist.”
I prepared to leave.
Before going, I headed back to the company to process my resignation.
Thanks to Shi Xu, I had spent two years as a canary, yet I also had two years of experience as a secretary.
Finding my next job would be easy.
I handed my resignation letter to the HR manager.
She looked surprised. “Does the CEO know about this?”
I replied, “He’ll know soon enough.”
My former colleagues were whispering among themselves: “Now that the real deal is back, the counterfeit obviously has to go.”
There they go again, following the script of the gossiping NPCs.
I didn’t take their idle chatter to heart.
After all, I already had tens of millions in my savings account.
Life was good.
HR said they couldn’t issue my certificate of resignation right now.
Fine by me.
I was about to get a death certificate anyway.
