I sighed and returned my attention to my phone.
[Ding! NoLongerADoormat has updated.]

He looked down at me, breathing heavily, his eyes getting redder and redder.
The glass was cold against my back.
Outside lay the city at night, thousands of homes lit up.
His breath brushed the back of my neck.
He bent his head and bit my neck.
I cried out. My legs went a little weak.
“Lu Mingke…”
He didn’t answer.
The hand at my waist tightened.
“You dumped me three times, Song Mingxi. You deserve a little punishment.”
My voice was hoarse.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have made you my kept lover. Why don’t we—”
He tightened his hold and silenced me with another kiss.
His tears started falling.
One drop.
Then another.
They landed on my neck.
“You horrible woman. I’ve been yours since I was a virgin. There was never anyone else. What about you? How many more have you slept with? And now you won’t even let me be your kept lover?”
I hurriedly shook my head and pushed him away. “I haven’t.”
At that moment, the door was pushed open.
“Mingxi. Diandian said she heard you—”
My brother’s voice cut off.
He stood in the doorway, staring at us in front of the window, and let out a startled, ear-splitting yell.
“Holy shit! What are you doing?!”
Lu Mingke sprang away and instinctively stepped in front of me.
He didn’t even have time to wipe his tears. The words came pouring out.
“It’s not her fault! I seduced her! I love her! Kill me, do whatever you want, but please don’t hurt her!”
My brother: “…”
Lu Mingke drew a deep breath, as though staking every bit of strength he had on his next words.

My brother’s expression went from confused to even more confused.
After a few seconds of silence, he blinked slowly.

“What has your relationship got to do with me?”

“As long as you treat her well.”
His eyes went wider still.
“What?!”
His worldview, values, and every feature on his face seemed to collapse all at once.
Resigned, I closed my eyes for a moment, then bowed in apology.
“Actually, he’s my brother. My biological brother.”
Lu Mingke looked as though he’d crumbled, cracked, exhausted himself, and departed this mortal plane.
He drew a deep breath.
“Aren’t you an only child?!”
“My parents divorced when I was little. My brother went away with one of them. He recently divorced his wife, and he’s staying with me for a while.”
Understanding dawned on my brother.
“So this is your ex-boyfriend?”
Lu Mingke forced a few words out of his throat.
“…My future brother-in-law.”
My brother’s worldview collapsed, too.
“So you thought my sister was married with a child, and you still wanted to destroy her family?!”
“I was wrong. /tears”
My brother turned to me.
“Mingxi, I know you like having fun, but you can’t toy with your ex-boyfriend like he’s some mangy dog!”
“I was wrong. /tears”
My brother, the long-suffering single dad, could only surrender.
“Unbelievable. Carry on with your romance. I’m going back to read Diandian a bedtime story.”
He stumbled back next door, his steps unsteady.
As though a ghost were chasing him.
The next day, Lu Mingke posted again.
