Why Is My Ex Like This? - Chapter 3
I really did like Lu Mingke.
So much that he’d only been back in the country a few days before I gave in and sent that message.
He pulled me into the dark and bit at my lips like a man possessed.
Before I could react, he pushed me onto the bed.
My traitorous face went bright red.
“Already? I—I haven’t got myself ready.”
Seeing me scramble away, he sneered.
“We’re sleeping without sex. I’m not interested in ex-girlfriends.”
He tilted his head back and took a gulp of bottled water.
He drank too quickly. Drops ran down his chin, over his Adam’s apple, his collarbones, his chest…
And kept going.
It was ridiculously tempting.
I swallowed, then forced out my objection.
“If we’re just sleeping without sex, I can only give you three hundred.”
For once, the man had nothing to say.
He got under the covers and peacefully closed his eyes.
Ignoring me again.
I leaned close to his ear and murmured, “I’m ready now.”
I waited and waited. He kept playing dead.
Dejected, I lay down on the other side.
Fine. He was such a proud rich boy. I’d dumped him three times; he probably hated my guts.
Not a chance I was getting any.
Suddenly, Lu Mingke put an arm around my waist.
Before I knew it, he was over me, cradling my face and kissing me.
“No bargaining.”
His teeth were clenched. Fierce kisses rained down.
…
When I woke the next morning, I was enclosed in his arms.
My back rested against his chest, his arm stretched across my waist.
My phone vibrated on the bedside table.
I struggled to reach it. It was my brother.
“Mingxi, I’m on duty at the hospital today. Don’t save dinner for me.”
“Mm. Got it, bro—”
Mmph.
My voice suddenly cracked. I hung up at once.
I was about to turn around and tell him off when Lu Mingke leaned in, his voice low and husky.
“Ha. Useless bastard.”
The more he said, the angrier he got.
“Taking over someone else’s nest. Disgusting.”
My mind went blank.
Disgusting?
Was he calling me disgusting?
Lu Mingke walked out of the room without looking back.
“Go live your life. Don’t come looking for me again.”
Clutching the blanket, I called after him hoarsely.
“Want to get back together?”
He stopped but didn’t turn around.
“Fuck off.”
Why the hell should he, Lu Mingke, want a woman who’d been married?!
I went home miserable.
After that day, for some reason, I started keeping up with that post.
Comment 1: [So your so-called revenge was to fuck her hard?]
OP: [Yes.]
Comment 2: [Are you sure that’s revenge and not a reward?]
Comment 3: [OP: She slept with me, ran off, and tossed me five hundred. She must be dying of shame!]
Comment 4: [She fucked you and left. Clean and simple. Wake up, OP! You’ve been hired for sex!]
Comment 5: [She sleeps with him and he’s still here writing essays about her. What a beautiful love story—scratch that, beautiful revenge story.]
I couldn’t stop laughing. It was too funny.
OP: [What do you people know? I’m doing this at my own pace.]
OP: [I’ll make her addicted to my body. Then I’ll dump her.]
Comment 6: [Tell the male-targeted fiction section I’m not coming back. I’ve found a man who truly brings honor to his ancestors.]
I laughed so hard I pounded the sofa.
Did he seriously think sleeping together once would make his ex abandon her husband and child, hopelessly addicted to his body?
Then the doorbell rang.
I looked through the peephole.
Lu Mingke!
How did he know my address?
I opened the door.
He glanced around my home, then raised an eyebrow.
“What a coincidence. I’m your neighbor. Pleasure to meet you.”
“…”
He’d left an apartment of several hundred square meters to move into my old cramped apartment building. What was going on in that head of his?
All I could do was nod stiffly.
“Mingxi, who is it?” my brother called from his room.
“The new neighbor,” I answered.
Lu Mingke suddenly pulled me toward him.
I stumbled against his chest. He bent down, kissed my lips, and smiled.
“You really are wicked. Cheating on your husband and hooking up with your ex. Spectacular.”
My brother was about to come out. I hurriedly pushed Lu Mingke away.
He looked past me at my brother, about to give him a provocative nod.
Then he stopped.
His face went deathly pale.
“My senior?!”
My brother blinked. “Mingke? When did you come back?”
I suddenly remembered: the university where my brother had done his doctorate was the same one Lu Mingke had attended!
What a small world.
Lu Mingke looked stiff. He managed a smile.
“I’ve got something to do. I’ll be going.”
Not understanding, my brother nodded, too.
“Off to work, then.”
He shouldered his little bag and ambled away, humming to himself.
Lu Mingke made an abrupt U-turn back to my side, looking sulky.
“Sure, he’s a senior from my university. But he’s not as good-looking as me, not as tall, and not as rich. Don’t you think?”
I wasn’t going to let him talk about my brother that way.
“He’s smart.”
Lu Mingke gritted his teeth. “Clearly. Otherwise, with what he’s got going for him, how could he have talked you into living with him?”
I was even more confused.
My brother had seduced me into living with him?
The sky had fallen. The earth had split. This was beyond insane.
Was something wrong with Lu Mingke’s brain?
My face scrunched up. With some difficulty, I said, “You’re so smart.”
“As if I need you to tell me. I’ve studied abroad, I’ve taken over the family company, and my future’s so bright I can’t sleep.”
He paused and looked at me seriously.
“Any regrets?”
My heart gave a hard thump.
Regrets?
His family had forced him to go abroad and forced me to break up with him.
Five million bought out our future together.
He had the family company. I had more interest income than I could spend.
We both had bright futures.
What right did I have to say I regretted it?
My voice caught a little.
“If you’re doing well now, then our breakup meant something.”
His expression changed.
He said nothing more, turned back to his apartment, and shut the door with a click.
