This was no different from seeing a ghost in broad daylight.

A cold sweat broke out instantly.

I couldn’t make out Xie Huaiyan’s expression, nor did I know exactly how much he had overheard.

At that thought, I used what must have been the fastest reaction speed of my life to suddenly lunge toward him with a beaming smile.

“Husband, what are you doing here? I was just on the phone with a friend!”

“She went to an escape room today and kept telling me all about how she got out. it sounds like so much fun.”

“I want to go with her next time, too. Can I?”

As I spoke, I shook his arm, trying to distract him.

Under my expectant gaze, the corners of Xie Huaiyan’s mouth slowly curled into a smile.

“Is that so?”

“Of course you can go play, but there’s one small condition.”

I won the bet!

He actually believed me!

I breathed a sigh of relief internally and followed up with a smile. “What’s the condition?”

Xie Huaiyan parted his thin lips, his tone slow and deliberate. “Since you like escaping so much, why don’t you play a game of escape room with me here at home first?”

“If you can escape my house within half an hour, I’ll let you go.”

“Of course,” he said, his deep eyes swirling with emotions I couldn’t decipher, “if you can’t get out this time, you’ll stay by my side forever.”

The pleasant surprise came too suddenly.

As soon as he finished speaking, I jumped up and hooked my pinky finger with Xie Huaiyan’s, terrified he might regret it in the next second.

“Deal! It’s a promise, no take-backs!”

With that, I turned and ran.

You really couldn’t blame me for being confident.

No matter how big Xie Huaiyan’s place was, it was still just a house. How hard could it be to get out?

My vision went dark.

As I slumped to the ground in exhaustion, I didn’t forget to throw a resentful punch at the sky.

Damn rich people, couldn’t they just spare me a small plot of all this land?

Suddenly, a cold night breeze blew past, and the surroundings immediately erupted into a rustling sound as all sorts of bizarrely shaped plants swayed with the wind.

There was even the desolate screech of a bird.

I silently retracted my fist.

The sound literally made me break out in a cold sweat.

My adrenaline had been spiking just a moment ago, but now that I had calmed down, I realized there wasn’t a soul around me.

In this vast garden, I was the only one present.

This atmosphere was honestly a bit terrifying.

I started walking back cautiously, not daring to look behind me, afraid that something unclean might be chasing me.

But just then, the toe of my shoe caught on a bush.

My attention was entirely focused on what was behind me; caught off guard, my body pitched forward heavily.

I squeezed my eyes shut instantly, waiting for the pain to hit.

But at that moment, a force suddenly grabbed my collar and gave it a gentle tug-

And I fell right into someone’s embrace.

This sudden turn of events scared the wits out of me. I struggled desperately. “Ahhh! What is it?! Don’t touch me!”

A soft chuckle reached my ears.

The person easily restrained my struggling form and draped a warm overcoat over me, blocking out the night’s chill.

The familiar scent of cedarwood perfume wafted over.

I instantly froze.

Opening my eyes and looking up, I happened to lock eyes with Xie Huaiyan’s smiling gaze.

“You lost.”

For some reason, the moment I saw Xie Huaiyan, my tense heart instinctively relaxed.

Even though I had failed my escape, I felt an inappropriate sense of peace at this moment.

I grumbled, trying to play foul. “…Can we take back that bet from just now? I didn’t realize your house was this big. It’s not fair.”

Xie Huaiyan gave a slight smile.

“No take-backs. You made a pinky promise and swore on it, remember?”

Under the moon, his overly exquisite features were so radiant they were practically more alluring than the moonlight itself.

My brain stalled for a second.

It took a long while before I turned my head away, my ears flushing red.

“No, I forgot.”

Xie Huaiyan stared at me and suddenly laughed a few times.

“Then your memory really is poor. Let me help you make it a lasting one.”

“The price for losing the game is-”

He took my hand, interlacing our fingers, and lowered his head to place a solemn kiss on the back of my hand.

“Stay by my side.”
