Transmigrated as a Spoiled Girl and Stuck with the Villain - Chapter 11
Chapter 11
The System’s final method had also failed.
Strangely enough, I didn’t feel much disappointment. On the contrary, my heart was beating faster than ever, as if some unfamiliar emotion was boiling inside me.
How very strange…
After the exhibition ended, I rubbed my chest and headed toward the changing rooms. Since men were barred from entry, the bodyguards naturally stopped outside the door.
I walked in alone. Selecting a stall, I shed the heavy, ornate decorations and changed back into my everyday clothes.
“Phew…”
I finally let out a long breath of relief. Expensive clothes were nice and all, but they were far too cumbersome. After walking around all day, I was practically ready to collapse from exhaustion.
But before I could fully relax, a group of women dressed like socialites swarmed in. Suddenly, a sharp voice reached my ears.
“That flashy woman earlier was actually Xie Huaiyan’s date!”
Oh? Someone was actually gossiping about me?
My curiosity piqued, I leaned gently against the stall door to hear more clearly.
“Shh, keep your voice down. You’re so loud they can probably hear you outside.”
“My god, did anyone count how many things that woman bought tonight? It’s like she has an infinite supply of money. What a spendthrift.”
“Exactly. And she hasn’t shown her face in our circles since she started following President Xie. Then she makes such a high-profile appearance-it feels like she’s trying to show off to us…”
“She probably just wants men to look at her. She dressed so ostentatiously on purpose; my husband couldn’t keep his eyes off her all night. I bet she’s thrilled about it!”
“For President Xie to be with a woman like that… it’s a family disgrace!”
As I listened, I didn’t feel the slightest ripple of annoyance. Instead, I felt like laughing. I hadn’t expected these people, whom I’d never even spoken to, to be badmouthing me behind my back like this.
However, if there was one thing I’d never lacked in my life, it was people talking behind my back. As long as they didn’t get in my way, I wouldn’t spare them a single glance, no matter what they said.
I pushed open the door, intending to leave. But just then, an exceptionally shrill voice rang out.
“Am I the only one who thinks Xie Huaiyan isn’t any good either?”
At the mention of the name “Xie Huaiyan,” my footsteps faltered for some reason.
The woman continued her indignant analysis. “That woman isn’t some socialite heiress; what kind of say could she possibly have? If you ask me, everything she did tonight was definitely ordered by that bastard Xie Huaiyan!”
“When he used to collaborate with our family, he actually canceled the partnership just because we accidentally destroyed a village during construction!”
“An illegitimate son is an illegitimate son. He reeks of lowliness!”
This time, I stopped completely. It turned out I knew far less about Xie Huaiyan than I thought. I hadn’t known a single thing about the incident she mentioned.
But during these many days spent with Xie Huaiyan day and night, I had gained some new insights into him. He would bandage injured stray cats, he would earnestly receive the director of an orphanage who came to thank him, and he showed infinite indulgence toward my death-seeking antics.
Every little thing made me feel that he wasn’t as terrifying as the System claimed. Nor was he as bad as the person outside the door described.
When they insulted me, I didn’t care; I’d been thick-skinned since I was a child. But when they insulted Xie Huaiyan, I instinctively felt confused, absurd… and a long-forgotten sense of anger.
The group outside was collectively horrified, rushing to cover the speaker’s mouth.
“My goodness! How dare you talk about Xie Huaiyan like that? You’re doomed if someone hears you!”
The woman curled her red lips. “Tsk, what’s there to be afraid of? It’s not like Xie Huaiyan can send someone to bug the women’s changing room…”
“Hi there.”
Before she could finish her sentence, I tapped her on the shoulder. The woman’s words cut off instantly. She slowly turned to look at me, her heavy makeup unable to hide the sudden paleness of her face. It was as if she had seen a ghost.
With a smile on my face, I said in a gentle tone, “Ladies, what are you talking about? Mind if I join in?”
