The Villain Is a Chatterbox, and I'm Mute - chapter 8
I didn’t have a phone, so I used the backup phone Sister Yu left at the convenience store.
That phone would show the convenience store’s name when making calls.
So, Qin Xu found me.
Looking at Qin Xu, who was happily eating oden, my heart melted completely.
“Did your family agree to let you come out so late at night?”
“That’s a long sentence, you’re making progress.” Qin Xu didn’t answer right away, but first gave me a thumbs up.
Then he said, “They didn’t agree at first, but when my mom thought about a young girl spending New Year’s alone in a convenience store, she told me to hurry over and keep you company.”
“Keep me company?” I asked in surprise.
“Yes, I’m not going home tonight. Where do you think I should sleep?”
I was a bit at a loss: “There’s only a small bed.”
Qin Xu didn’t mind: “It’s fine, squeezing together is warmer.”
My face turned bright red.
Late at night, there were no customers. After dawdling and turning off the convenience store’s lights, I took Qin Xu to the storage room.
His gaze swept over the stacked cardboard boxes, and the small bed ended up on top of my suitcase.
Then he let out a long sigh.
My heart tightened: “What’s wrong?”
“Looks like I’ll have to hold you tight so I don’t fall off the bed.”
In the darkness, Qin Xu’s tone was as usual.
But I saw the sadness on his face.
“It’s okay,” I answered softly.
Don’t feel sad for my situation.
These days have been the easiest for me.
In the end, Qin Xu just sat at the edge of the bed, watching me fall asleep.
He wore a coat, looking tired.
“Can I have a goodnight kiss?”
I pressed my lips together and said nothing.
He muttered, “Heartless little thing.”
Then he slumped at the bedside and dozed off.
Hearing his steady breathing, I quietly poked my head out from under the covers and carefully kissed Qin Xu’s cheek.
In a low voice, I said, “Thank you, Qin Xu.”
“You’re welcome,” Qin Xu suddenly replied.
“You… you weren’t asleep!” I was so startled I stammered, almost speechless.
“I was asleep. I’m talking in my sleep now,” he answered.
Me: “…”
Am I really that easy to fool?
“Go to sleep,” he said, pulling the covers tightly around me.
Then he yawned and buried his head, continuing to sleep.
A sly smile tugged at the corners of his mouth.
