The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 376
“No wonder you’re destined to be my future wife, you really think of everything,” Lu Xuan praised, a smile curling at his lips.
But Mo Qinghuan sneered, “Mr. Lu, is your senility coming early? Or have you lost your memory? I only agreed to play along with your act, but I never said I’d definitely marry you. In two days, at Lu Yucheng’s engagement banquet, as a family member, you’ll be attending, right?”
She was Mo Qinghuan-no matter what happened, she would never love someone she didn’t love, and she certainly wouldn’t throw herself at a shameless man like Lu Xuan out of despair.
“Seems that’s the case.” Lu Xuan shrugged. He was still surprised that Mo Qinghuan could mention Lu Yucheng’s engagement so calmly.
“Then please help me send him my blessings. I hope he’ll be happy from now on.” No matter how many words she had, what Mo Qinghuan most wanted to say was that she hoped Lu Yucheng could find happiness, even if it wasn’t something she could give him.
“That’s all? Or do you want to join the fun but don’t know how to ask?” Lu Xuan actually hoped Mo Qinghuan would go to the engagement ceremony too-he imagined it would be awkwardly entertaining.
But knowing Lu Xuan’s despicable thoughts, Mo Qinghuan would never let him get his way. Her gaze swept to her right leg, newly set in a cast, and she raised an eyebrow. “Unfortunately, the doctor told me that even with a wheelchair, I shouldn’t go out these two days, in case another accident happens like last time. If that happens, I might really end up disabled. I’m not going to gamble the next few decades of my life.”
Deliberately bringing up the doctor’s instructions, she calmly refused Lu Xuan’s suggestion. Luckily, he wasn’t as domineering as before and didn’t force her, just stood up with some regret and said, “I thought maybe Auntie would be looking forward to seeing you, so I wanted to create that opportunity for you. Looks like my good intentions are wasted.”
“In the future, don’t bother with such good intentions. After all, is it really kindness or malice? You know better than anyone, don’t you?” She sneered, tearing off Lu Xuan’s mask of hypocrisy.
He really didn’t understand-every time he put on a false front, Mo Qinghuan saw through him instantly. Yet he never tired of pretending. Didn’t he ever get exhausted?
A period of silent tension followed. On the surface, things seemed awkward between them, but in reality, each was lost in their own thoughts. Mo Qinghuan closed her eyes and issued a dismissal: “I’m tired. If you’re not done yet, Lu Xuan, go sit on the sofa. I can’t sleep with someone watching me.”
“Alright, I’ll go. Rest well. I’ll come see you tomorrow.” Hearing that Mo Qinghuan didn’t welcome him, Lu Xuan had no choice but to back down.
But when he reached the door, he suddenly turned back, leaving a cryptic remark: “To you, yesterday was just an act, but I was sincere. I’m confident you’ll marry me one day. To wait for that day, I’ll treat you even better.”
After Lu Xuan left, Mo Qinghuan slowly opened her eyes. There wasn’t a trace of sleepiness in her gaze. She pondered Lu Xuan’s words, feeling a chill run down her spine. He’d orchestrated everything, separating her from Lu Yucheng, and now he was planning something else?
Clenching her fists, Mo Qinghuan bit her lip and muttered to herself, “Lu Xuan, do you really think I’ll let you lead me around by the nose forever? You’re seriously underestimating me!”
At the Lu family, ever since Lu Yucheng agreed to the engagement ceremony, Ran Shuya had acted like a virtuous wife and mother, personally cooking dinner for Lu Yucheng and Little Bun. Even in front of the maids, she carried herself like the true mistress of the house.
But Little Bun clearly didn’t accept Ran Shuya. Urged by the maids to come to the table, he saw that all the dishes were prepared by Ran Shuya and immediately threw down his chopsticks, heading upstairs.
Seeing this, Ran Shuya hurried forward and grabbed him, frowning and trying to sound gentle: “Little Bun, what’s wrong? I made these dishes myself, they’re delicious. Aren’t you hungry? Don’t you want to try them?”
“I don’t like your cooking. Why did you come to my house? If you’re here, my sister will be mad and won’t come back. What should I do?” The innocent child didn’t understand what engagement meant to adults-he just wanted Mo Qinghuan to come back.
But with Ran Shuya at the Lu family, Little Bun was afraid Mo Qinghuan would get angry and never return, which would break his heart.
Hearing Little Bun mention Mo Qinghuan again, Ran Shuya struggled to hold back her anger, about to snap when a tired voice sounded from behind: “Little Bun, who let you talk to Shuya like that? Didn’t you promise your brother you’d be good from now on?”
Looking over, it was Lu Yucheng, just home from work, entering the hall. Hearing Little Bun making a scene with Ran Shuya, he felt sorry for her and stepped in to scold him.
“But brother, you promised me you’d bring sister back. You broke your word. I don’t like you anymore.” Little Bun, always spoiled by Lu Yucheng, was now being scolded repeatedly because of Ran Shuya’s presence. Unable to take it, Little Bun ran upstairs crying and slammed his door shut.
Lu Yucheng hadn’t expected Little Bun to throw such a tantrum. He frowned, took off his jacket, loosened his tie, and said to Ran Shuya, “Sorry, I’ll find a chance to talk to Little Bun.”
“It’s fine, how could I be upset with a child? By the way, Yucheng, you must be hungry after work, right? I made dinner myself-would you like to try it?” Ran Shuya was glad she hadn’t lost her temper with Little Bun, or Lu Yucheng might have overheard.
She flashed a sweet smile, inviting Lu Yucheng to taste her homemade meal. Since he’d refused her at lunch, Lu Yucheng still felt guilty, so he allowed Ran Shuya to take his arm and they went to the table together.
The maids, seeing this, all tactfully left.
Lu Yucheng looked at the sumptuous spread. It was obvious Ran Shuya had put a lot of effort into preparing dinner, but he had no appetite. Even so, he picked up a piece of greens with his chopsticks and chewed, perfunctorily praising, “It tastes great, Shuya. You really are good at cooking.”
“Actually, I just learned recently. I started taking cooking classes these past two days because I really hope every meal you and Little Bun have in the future will be made by me. That way, the atmosphere will be warm.” Receiving Lu Yucheng’s praise, Ran Shuya felt her efforts hadn’t been wasted.
But at the mention of cooking classes, Lu Yucheng couldn’t help but recall learning to cook for Mo Qinghuan. A faint smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.
Thinking Lu Yucheng was smiling because he was satisfied with her cooking, Ran Shuya couldn’t have been happier.
