The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 375
“But Mr. Lu has just returned, and is about to become the Ran family’s distinguished son-in-law. Mr. Lu, if we make any moves now, I’m afraid the Old Master won’t just stand by and watch, will he?” It was clear that Lu Xuan harbored deep resentment toward Lu Yucheng, but Secretary Wang kindly reminded him from the side, hoping he could hold back his anger for now and stay calm.
“That’s right. After all, the one favored now isn’t me, the eldest son, but the second son.” What surprised Lu Xuan most was that Lu Yucheng had actually accepted Ran Shuya? He’d thought the anonymous invitation to the award ceremony yesterday was just to make him more embarrassed, but unexpectedly, it had somehow brought Lu Yucheng and Ran Shuya together? Lu Xuan felt he had miscalculated.
Lu Yucheng, just entering the office, gazed at the unfamiliar surroundings. There was a photo frame on the desk, both familiar and strange.
He stepped forward and picked up the frame to examine it. It was a photo of him and Mo Qinghuan, from when they started dating to when he was forced to leave Lu Group. It had always been placed in the most prominent spot on his desk. What was once his most treasured possession now felt especially out of place.
Just then, his phone rang. It was Ran Shuya calling: “Yucheng, to celebrate your return to the company, shall we have lunch together at noon?”
Her voice seemed full of joy, but Lu Yucheng just stared blankly at Mo Qinghuan’s smiling face in the photo, frowned, and refused: “Sorry, Shuya, I just got back to the company and have a lot of materials to review. I probably won’t have time to join you for lunch.”
“I see? That’s fine, then. When you’re free, Yucheng, be sure to contact me, okay? I won’t disturb your work. Bye-bye.” Little did she know, to create a romantic atmosphere, Ran Shuya had already secretly reserved a table at a high-end restaurant. Now it seemed she’d have to find someone else.
But she didn’t dare show too much dissatisfaction, as if afraid of provoking Lu Yucheng’s dislike. After hanging up, pretending to be gracious, Ran Shuya kept replaying Lu Yucheng’s impatient attitude in her mind. Even with only two days until their engagement, had Lu Yucheng’s indifference toward her not changed at all?
Biting her lip, Ran Shuya called a magazine reporter and told them a piece of news explosive enough to make headlines.
In the hospital, Mo Qinghuan, bored, browsed news on her phone. Almost all of it was about Lu Xuan’s high-profile proposal at yesterday’s award ceremony. She sighed and was about to turn off her phone, but then their news was suddenly pushed out of the top spot by another headline?
Frowning, she could hardly believe her eyes. The news said Lu Yucheng and Ran Shuya would hold their engagement ceremony in two days?
Her mind went blank. She didn’t even notice her phone falling to the floor, her mind replaying the “good news” about Lu Yucheng and Ran Shuya. Was Lu Yucheng really going to be with Ran Shuya?
Someone as low-key as him had actually put the engagement news online, attracting a swarm of reporters and coverage. Clearly, he was determined to marry Ran Shuya.
Clutching the blanket on both sides of her body, her face was so pale it was frightening. Just then, Huo-Jie pushed the door open. Seeing Mo Qinghuan trembling all over, she immediately dropped the fruit and rushed over to grip her shoulders, asking, “Qinghuan, are you feeling unwell? Why do you look so pale?”
“Huo-Jie, he’s getting engaged. The bride is Ran Shuya.” Trembling, Mo Qinghuan looked up at Huo-Jie, her tear-filled eyes dazed, as if she’d forgotten how to speak.
It was clear this news was a huge blow to Mo Qinghuan. Even when she was forced by Lu Xuan to accept his proposal, she’d never looked so desperate.
As a bystander, Huo-Jie knew Mo Qinghuan still had deep feelings for Lu Yucheng, but the two had no choice but to part ways. She sighed. In fact, on her way to the hospital, Huo-Jie had already received a call telling her the news. Though she’d found it hard to accept, recalling Lu Yucheng’s desperate figure leaving the award ceremony yesterday made it all easier to understand.
Unable to bear seeing Mo Qinghuan break down any further, Huo-Jie couldn’t help but say, “Qinghuan, did you know? Mr. Lu was actually at the award ceremony yesterday. I don’t know why he showed up, but when Lu Xuan proposed to you, he saw it with his own eyes.”
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” Huo-Jie’s words sent chills down Mo Qinghuan’s spine.
She’d only agreed to help Lu Xuan put on a show yesterday, but never imagined Lu Yucheng was one of the audience members? No wonder he suddenly decided to get engaged to Ran Shuya. So it was her who had brought them together?
“With the state you were in yesterday, I really couldn’t imagine how you’d react if I told you.” Huo-Jie felt deeply guilty for keeping it from her, but since the two had decided to part ways, some things just had to be accepted as facts.
Watching Mo Qinghuan sobbing uncontrollably, Huo-Jie had never seen her so heartbroken. She hugged her tightly, patting her back and murmuring, “Cry, let it all out. You’ll feel much better.”
That afternoon, Mo Qinghuan cried for hours, as if all her grievances over this period had turned into tears and flowed out completely. Huo-Jie’s shoulder was soaked through. Maybe even Mo Qinghuan herself didn’t know she could cry so much.
Just as Huo-Jie said, after crying, although she felt exhausted, the pain in her heart was much lighter. When she checked the engagement news about Lu Yucheng and Ran Shuya again, she no longer felt so hopeless.
By evening, when Lu Xuan came to visit her in the ward, he saw a woman half-lying on the hospital bed, her eyes swollen and her face pale. She looked weak, but her eyes seemed colder than usual.
Lu Xuan had long known she’d been crying her heart out in the ward, and could guess that only the news of Lu Yucheng’s engagement could make her shed so many tears. He smiled slightly and stepped forward to ask, “Have you finished crying?”
“You were the one who had Lu Yucheng go to the ceremony yesterday, weren’t you?” Mo Qinghuan looked up and met Lu Xuan’s smiling face, her cold expression a little frightening.
But Lu Xuan didn’t feel the slightest fear. He kept smiling and replied, “After all, it was our most important day. We had to invite a family member or two to make it perfect. I just forgot to tell you in advance. Are you angry because of that?”
Shaking her head, Mo Qinghuan curled her lip at Lu Xuan’s guilty look and said coldly, “You didn’t forget to tell me-you never intended to tell me the truth from the start. Otherwise, if I’d changed my mind on stage, your plan would have fallen apart, right? Am I wrong?”
