The Perfect Plot of My Brother - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
My mind was buzzing with questions, but with Zhou Hegui right there, I couldn’t exactly pull my brother aside to ask what was going on.
We had a spare room at home, which my mom tidied up for Zhou Hegui to stay in.
It wasn’t until dinner time that I finally caught my brother in a quiet corner.
“Brother, are you and Zhou Hegui really that close?”
“Of course. He’s handsome, isn’t he?”
My brother’s tone was thick with pride.
I silently glanced at the person sitting on the sofa. With sharp brows, bright eyes, and a well-defined profile, even his side view was lethally handsome.
I answered honestly, “He is.”
Well, duh. He’s a main character; how could he not be handsome?!
Seeing my confirmation, my brother chuckled twice. “Your brother is on great terms with him!”
Me: “…”
The world has finally gone mad in a way I don’t recognize.
What I didn’t know was that while I went to the kitchen to help my mom bring out the dishes, my brother let out a quiet sigh of relief and muttered to himself, “Worth it. All that time spent sucking up to that kid wasn’t for nothing!”
Zhou Hegui stayed at our house until the Lunar New Year.
During this time, he and my brother interacted quite normally, just like ordinary friends.
I started to relax a little. Soon, it was time to go shopping for New Year supplies.
My mom assigned this task to my brother and me.
Zhou Hegui was a guest, but he came along to help anyway.
With an outsider present, my brother’s “doting brother” attribute suddenly exploded.
“Sister, you love this! Let’s get more!”
“Jelly! Buy it! Wangzai Milk! Buy it!”
“…”
While I was touched, I was also terrified when it came time to pay.
My brother stared at the string of digits on the receipt, his face turning green.
I facepalmed. It was way over the budget our parents had given us.
But to maintain his persona as a doting brother in front of Zhou Hegui, he gritted his teeth and paid for it all.
Afterward, he whined piteously, “Ugh, my wallet is bankrupt.”
I almost burst out laughing.
But catching his resentful gaze, I managed to hold it in.
By the time we huffed and puffed our way home with the bags, our parents were stunned.
Fortunately, because Zhou Hegui was there, my brother was spared a serving of “bamboo shoot stir-fried with meat.”
New Year’s Eve is always busy and bustling.
My brother ran off to help my dad, leaving only Zhou Hegui and me in the living room for a moment.
The youth sat upright, his eyes slightly downcast. A layer of loneliness seemed to shroud him, making him look out of place in the festive atmosphere.
I suddenly remembered his backstory from the plot.
Zhou Hegui’s parents divorced when he was very young. He stayed with his mother, but she eventually remarried a wealthy man and had another son. He became the redundant one.
To prevent him from ruining her hard-won happiness, his mother kicked him back to his alcoholic father like a stray ball. He had lived with his mother for several years but hadn’t brought back any money, so he was frequently beaten. Over time, his personality became solitary and cold. When he looked at people without smiling, there was always a hint of ferocity in his eyes.
It was a form of defensiveness, like a wild animal.
After a moment’s thought, I picked up a tangerine and handed it over naturally. “Brother Hegui, do you want a tangerine?”
Caught off guard by my words, the youth looked up blankly, his gaze crashing into a pair of smiling, almond-shaped eyes.
His eyes flickered. It took a long moment for him to snap out of it and reach out to take the tangerine from my hand. His voice was cool and clear. “Thank you.”
His hands were very beautiful-slender, fair, with well-defined joints.
I watched him for a bit, sighing inwardly. As expected of a main character.
Whether before or after my transmigration, this was the first time I’d seen someone so handsome!
A masterpiece! Truly a masterpiece!
Not far away, my brother was putting up window decorations. Suddenly seeing how close Zhou Hegui and I were, he pressed his face against the glass, staring fixedly at us while little flames of fury practically erupted from his eyes.
I happened to look back and was nearly scared to death.
What kind of monster is that? Someone, kick him out!
