The Perfect Plot of My Brother - Chapter 8
Chapter 8
Over the following days, we spent a lot of time together.
We went to the amusement park and learned how to wrap dumplings as a group. Zhou Hegui had a reserved personality, but unfortunately for his quiet nature, both my brother and I were absolute chatterboxes.
Over time, he grew used to it, and a faint smile began to grace his face more often.
He looked handsome when he smiled, like the melting of spring snow.
I didn’t hold back on the compliments. “Brother Hegui looks so good when he smiles!”
Hearing this, the youth froze for a moment, the tips of his ears flushing a pale red.
My brother, on the other hand, wasn’t having it. “Little sister, who’s more handsome? Your brother or Zhou Hegui?”
I thought about it for a second.
Then I flashed a peace sign with both hands.
Hehe.
Look at me, what a clever little wit!
Seeing this, the gloom that usually saturated Zhou Hegui’s eyes softened. He patted my brother on the shoulder and said, “Didn’t you say you were going to buy Yuexi some candied haws? Let’s go.”
My brother huffed. “Fine, let’s go.”
This routine continued until the end of winter break when they headed back to university.
I added Zhou Hegui on social media, and we would occasionally meet up for a meal on weekends.
My brother’s attitude was a bit strange, but seeing as he wasn’t being hostile toward Zhou Hegui, I didn’t worry about it.
What I didn’t expect, however, was what happened during my sophomore year.
My brother and Zhou Hegui started a business together.
When I heard the news, I was so excited I couldn’t sleep all night.
Ah!
Who was Zhou Hegui?
He was the villain who could stand toe-to-toe with the male lead!
He was destined to make a fortune and become the CEO of a listed company at a young age.
If my brother hitched his wagon to him, wouldn’t he become filthy rich too?!
Thinking of this, I was overjoyed. But after a moment, my head suddenly cooled down.
In the future, Zhou Hegui would blacken because he fought the male lead over the female lead. His unrequited love would drive him to commit countless wrongs, eventually leading to bankruptcy and his death when he drove his car into the sea.
Supposedly, he would meet the sunshine-like female lead after his career took off and find redemption through her.
Well, it wasn’t urgent yet.
Still, it was better to be safe than sorry. “Brother, has Brother Hegui met any girls lately?”
What if the female lead made an early appearance?
I had just sent the message when my brother replied instantly.
[Nope. He’s with me working on the project every single day.]
[Don’t worry, your brother understands everything. *Sad Puppy.jpg*]
Me: “?”
What exactly do you understand?
I didn’t get it, but since there was no one, I didn’t ask further.
The days passed one by one.
When Valentine’s Day arrived, I returned to my dorm only to find my roommates either putting on makeup or picking out outfits.
One was even on the phone with her boyfriend.
Seeing me come in, Xiao He, who I was close with, glanced over and said apologetically, “Yuexi, I’m so sorry, I can’t grab dinner with you tonight.”
I waved her off. “It’s fine, go on your date.”
In our dorm, everyone had a significant other except for me.
I didn’t really mind, but as I was browsing for takeout, my brother called. Seeing the caller ID, I answered. “Brother.”
The next moment, his cheerful voice came through the phone. “Little sister, have you eaten dinner yet?”
“Not yet.”
Meng Yunchuan asked, “Aren’t you eating with your roommates?”
I went quiet for a second before saying, “They’re all out on dates.”
The moment I finished speaking, there was a brief silence on the other end.
I thought Meng Yunchuan would tell me to make sure I ate well or something similar, but instead, he said directly, “I’m coming to pick you up. Let’s go grab dinner together. Eating alone is boring.”
He said it so naturally, as if it were just a casual suggestion.
But I could hear the blatant concern in his voice, and my heart warmed slightly.
My tone softened unconsciously. “Okay~”
