The Perfect Plot of My Brother - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
After that day, the relationship between my brother and me suddenly became much closer.
In an effort to prove what he had said to our parents-
Whenever I started tidying up my dolls, he would snatch them away. “Let your brother do it! Go rest!”
Then, he would end up panting for breath, drenched in sweat from the effort.
Me: “…”
When I wanted a snack, he would pull out his piggy bank. “Your brother has money. Go buy whatever you want!”
Then, he would turn around, leaving me with a cool, heroic silhouette.
In reality, he was biting his lip with a look of pure financial agony on his face.
Me: “…”
It wasn’t like I absolutely *had* to have those snacks.
Later, I started kindergarten.
When I walked out of the school gates and saw the young boy standing not far away, I froze.
Meng Yunchuan was carrying a heavy schoolbag, standing with a few friends. He waved at me excitedly. “Little Sister!”
I didn’t know what he had been telling his friends, but seeing me standing there dazed, he strode toward me. “Little Sister, your brother is here to take you home!”
Someone nearby spoke up after he said that.
“Meng Yunchuan, your sister is so tiny. She’s so cute!”
“Yeah, she really is adorable!”
My brother’s vanity swelled. He blinked at me, staring with an expectant look in his eyes.
Me: “??”
Realizing what he wanted, I spoke up in a sweet voice. “Brother~”
Upon hearing that, the corners of my brother’s mouth curled up high. He was incredibly smug. “Ayy, Little Sister, your brother is here!”
The other boys: “…”
Me: “…”
Fine.
I’ve seen people flaunt their wealth and people flaunt their beauty, but I had never seen someone flaunt their sister.
I felt both amused and helpless, but I eventually took my brother’s hand. “Let’s go. Let’s go home.”
My brother chuckled happily, his voice becoming eight degrees softer. “Okay~”
This pickup routine eventually became a habit.
Even after I started elementary school, my brother would head home with me every day after school.
Of course, his school let out later than mine, so most of the time it was me waiting for him.
Gradually, I got used to it.
Until one day.
After school, I waited in the classroom for a full hour. I had finished all my prep work for the next day, but when I looked out the window, I still didn’t see that familiar figure.
With winter approaching, the days were short and the nights were long; the sky was already starting to get dark.
My heart skipped a beat, and a faint sense of unease began to stir.
Meng Yunchuan was now in his third year of middle school. The elementary and middle school sections were some distance apart.
Without thinking much more, I packed my bag and ran to his classroom in the middle school building. There were only a few scattered people left inside, and a quick glance told me Meng Yunchuan wasn’t among them.
A few people in the class recognized me. Seeing me run up there alone, looks of surprise appeared on their faces.
One of them scratched the back of his head, puzzled. “Meng Yunchuan left as soon as class ended. The teacher didn’t keep us late today; he actually let us out ten minutes earlier than usual.”
Hearing this, I was stunned.
He had been let out even earlier than usual?
I didn’t say anything else, turning around to head back downstairs.
Maybe he had something urgent to do, which was why he didn’t come to find me?
Then he should be home by now.
But to my surprise, Meng Yunchuan arrived home after I did.
My mom was already preparing dinner. Seeing him return so late, she naturally asked, “Where did you go? Why didn’t you come back with your sister today?”
Hearing this, I glanced over at him.
The boy’s black hair was plastered to his forehead. Even though it was late autumn, he was covered in sweat. His cheeks were flushed as if he had run all the way back. Seeing me sitting safely on the sofa, he let out a sigh of relief and explained, “I had something to take care of. I thought I’d come back with my sister a bit later.”
Hearing that, Mom didn’t ask any further.
I took another look at him. I wasn’t sure if it was just my imagination, but why was the corner of his lip split?
Had he been in a fight?
The thought flashed by, and I didn’t take it to heart.
Until I went to school the next day.
