Chapter 6
School was about to start, which meant I wouldn’t have to face my brother all day.
My brother seemed to have read my mind.
He got a kid’s bicycle from somewhere and eagerly offered to teach me how to ride it.
When Mom and Dad saw this, they both gave him looks of approval.
Only I saw the scales that flickered on his forehead for a second before disappearing.
Th-those were snake scales.
I fought the urge to faint and shakily held onto the handlebars.
Even with my brother holding the bike from behind, I still wobbled all over the place.
“I’m going to let go now, okay?” he said suddenly.
I panicked and quickly tried to stop him. “N-no…”
My brother let out a low chuckle. “Besides ‘no,’ can’t you say anything else?”
I shut my mouth, not daring to make another sound.
To escape my brother’s clutches as soon as possible,
I used my incredible willpower to learn how to ride the bike within half an hour.
But my brother still wouldn’t let me go.
He offered to teach me how to shoot baskets.
Mom and Dad happily brought out stools to watch, and even the housekeeper and the driver came over to spectate enthusiastically.
The words of refusal died on my lips, and I had to swallow them back down.
The basketball hoop was so high.
I was so small, and I couldn’t make a single shot, which made me break out in a sweat.
My brother patiently helped me adjust my arm position and explained the proper technique.
Mom and Dad watched fondly from the side, whispering to each other from time to time.
Are they thinking I’m too clumsy?
The orphanage once held a sports day.
I participated in running, jump rope, and table tennis.
I came in last in every event.
The teacher shook her head and said I was uncoordinated, and the other kids laughed at me for being clumsy.
I tried so hard my arms were sore, but I still couldn’t make a single basket.
I grew more and more anxious, my face flushing.
It felt like only by making a basket could I prove to Mom and Dad that I wasn’t a clumsy child.
That I’m healthy.
Please don’t abandon me.
At that thought, I sniffled, and my vision blurred with tears.
My brother sighed.
He put his hands under my arms and easily lifted me up.
“Here, make the shot.”
His voice was raspy from puberty, not exactly pleasant to listen to.
I stared blankly at the hoop, which was now right in front of me.
I hesitantly raised my hand and placed the basketball in the net.
Mom and Dad burst into cheers.
The housekeeper and the driver applauded wildly.
They gathered around me. “Yan Yan is amazing! Yan Yan is incredible!”
“Yan Yan is so tiny, but her form is better than mine! She just needs a little more strength.”
“Yan Yan kept trying even when she was so tired. That perseverance is amazing! She’s going to do great things in the future!”
I blushed.
I’m not an eight or nine-year-old anymore; I’m ten now.
Being praised like this is so…
Embarrassing.
I quietly turned to look at my brother.
I saw his forehead was covered in shiny sweat, and he was smirking at me.
When he noticed me looking, he quickly wiped the smile off his face.
[Hahahaha, brother is trying to act cool again.]
[It’s normal for kids to want to act cool.]
[To coax the supporting character into talking, brother has practically used every skill he has.]
[If the first thing she says isn’t ‘brother,’ is he going to be mad?]
[Why is the male lead like this? Didn’t he dislike the supporting character?]
[Forget brother, the supporting character is so cute, I’m falling in love with her.]
[Whatever, according to the plot, our evil cultivator female lead is about to make her appearance!]
[Brother, Mom, and Dad are about to fall for her charms!]
