The Little Spoiled Brat Divorces with a Child, Driving the Big Boss Crazy - Chapter 75
Chapter 75
This checkup included a 4D ultrasound.
The doctor glanced at Jin Beizhou. “Your husband?”
Lu Ying opened her mouth to deny it, but before she could make a sound, Jin Beizhou answered, “I’m the baby’s father.”
The deliberately ambiguous response satisfied the doctor. She nodded. “Come in together.”
This was the first time Jin Beizhou heard his baby’s heartbeat and saw what the child looked like.
“The fetus is developing very well,” the doctor said gently. “Your wife always came alone before. See? This is a little hand, and these are the two feet. The baby’s stretching.”
Lu Ying stared at the yellow blob and barely managed to discern a human shape. She had no words.
The doctor scanned every part of the baby, then looked back and teased, “The baby resembles Dad. It’ll look even more like him if Dad sheds a tear.”
Only then did Lu Ying follow her gaze to Jin Beizhou.
The man stood frozen, staring fixedly at the monitor. Moisture surged in his eyes, ready to fall the instant he blinked.
“…” Lu Ying lowered her lashes. “Is everything else fine?”
“Everything is fine,” the doctor said warmly. “Several babies came in yesterday and refused to turn over no matter how long we tried. Yours is full of energy.”
Lu Ying said, “Maybe the others don’t have to listen to their parents fight.”
“…”
Jin Beizhou heard her. He said nothing, merely turning his face toward the wall on the other side.
Several seconds later, he looked at the monitor again. The moisture in his eyes had vanished so completely it seemed like an illusion.
“It…” Jin Beizhou cleared his throat and pointed toward one corner of the monitor. “What is this…?”
The doctor smiled. “The baby is grabbing the umbilical cord and playing with it.”
Jin Beizhou paused. “It can play?”
“Of course,” the doctor said. “If you don’t want the baby to be fussy after birth, the mother needs to keep a regular schedule…”
She glanced at Jin Beizhou. “A pregnant woman should remain happy. Your baby is very beautiful. When Mommy is happy, the baby will have a cheerful personality too.”
Jin Beizhou pressed his lips into a straight line.
What could he do? His greatest regret now was signing that divorce agreement and going with her to receive the certificate.
The girl had clearly been scheming against him from that moment onward.
The two of them had known each other practically since the cradle. Lu Ying had some cunning but not much. Whenever she occasionally tried to scheme, Jin Beizhou could see through her at a glance. How had he stumbled so badly over something this important?
Jin Beizhou took out his phone and asked, “May I take a picture?”
“There’s no need,” the doctor replied. “You’ll receive a disc.”
Jin Beizhou looked at Lu Ying. “Will you keep it, or should I?”
Lu Ying’s anger flared without warning. “Can’t the damn thing be copied at home? Make as many copies as you want!”
“…”
Silence.
After a moment, Jin Beizhou looked at the doctor. “You saw that, didn’t you? I didn’t provoke her.”
The doctor didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
“Pregnant women are controlled by hormones,” she said, trying to smooth things over. “Some become especially infatuated with their husbands during pregnancy…”
Jin Beizhou’s lashes fluttered. “At what stage?”
“…What?”
“Becoming infatuated with her husband.” Jin Beizhou had never sounded more serious. “During which month does that happen?”
The doctor fell silent.
She had only been offering an example.
Jin Beizhou asked, “Could it happen this month?”
The doctor was at a loss for words.
Jin Beizhou continued, “Could she be lacking a certain hormone? Should we give her supplements?”
Lu Ying slapped his arm with a crisp crack.
The sound cut off the man’s wishful thinking.
Jin Beizhou silently rubbed his arm. “I didn’t provoke her.”
The doctor remained speechless.
Jin Beizhou said, “I have one more question…”
“Are you ever going to finish?” Lu Ying snapped. “Why do you have so many questions?”
Jin Beizhou said, “One last question.”
The doctor cleared her throat. “Go ahead.”
“Is there any chance,” Jin Beizhou asked gravely, “that these hormones are controlling her and making her demand a divorce?”
“…” The doctor fell silent for a moment. “Perhaps. Some pregnant women do develop an intense dislike for their husbands…”
Jin Beizhou’s eyes flickered, and urgency entered his voice. “Will she go back to normal after the baby is born?”
“In your dreams,” Lu Ying said mercilessly. “I gave the divorce a great deal of thought.”
Ignoring her, Jin Beizhou kept his gaze fixed on the doctor. “Will she?”
The doctor was speechless.
The next second, she waved them out. “All right, next patient.”
After they walked out of the hospital, Jin Beizhou followed Lu Ying step for step, his hands hovering nervously beneath her elbows. “Careful. There’s a step.”
“…” Lu Ying stopped. “This checkup is over. I’ll see you at the next one.”
Jin Beizhou was silent for a moment. “Can we have a proper talk?”
“About what?”
“Getting remarried.”
“Fine.” Lu Ying was uncharacteristically generous. “Talk.”
Her easy agreement sent a chill down Jin Beizhou’s spine. He began cautiously, “I apologize for everything I did wrong before. I regret it, and I’ll change…”
“I accept your apology,” Lu Ying said.
“…” Jin Beizhou looked a little lost, but continued, “I’ll take good care of you and the baby…”
“I believe you.”
Jin Beizhou fell silent.
“Are you finished?” Lu Ying asked.
She started down the steps. “See you at the next checkup.”
“…” A muscle jumped in Jin Beizhou’s jaw. He caught up with her in two strides. “Then tell me what it would take for us to remarry.”
Lu Ying stopped. “Say that word again, and I’ll go inside right now and make an appointment to have labor induced…”
Before she could finish, Jin Beizhou covered her mouth again.
His other hand went to her belly as he coaxed the baby in a timid voice, “She means boosting production. She doesn’t mean she doesn’t want you.”
Lu Ying’s expression was beyond words.
Caotang was within walking distance from the hospital. They walked side by side, with Jin Beizhou taking the outside, closest to the road.
“Um…” He gave her an awkward look. “Can I buy things for the baby?”
“Keep them at your place. I already have everything I need at mine.”
“Can I buy things for you?”
“No.”
“…I’m not very good at picking things,” Jin Beizhou said, forcing the conversation along. “Can I ask you what to buy?”
“Learn to use a search engine.”
He choked. “Every baby is different…”
Lu Ying’s answer was succinct. “It’s a girl. Just buy things for a girl.”
Jin Beizhou stopped dead.
The sun shone high and bright, and Lu Ying had already walked more than thirty feet ahead.
His gaze locked on her figure, his mind in a daze.
A girl?
He was going to have a daughter.
A tiny version of Lu Ying.
A little girl who shared his blood and would call him “Daddy” in a sweet, childish voice.
Before the thought had fully taken shape, overwhelming joy had already flooded his face. Jin Beizhou stirred up a gust of wind as he strode after the woman ahead.
Light and shadow flashed across Lu Ying’s eyes.
Suddenly, the man cupped her face and planted a hard kiss on her lips. His voice overflowed with irrepressible delight. “Baby, we’re going to have a daughter!”
Lu Ying’s first response was to slap him hard across the face. Then, without saying a word, she turned and marched back toward the hospital.
Still wearing the imprint of her fingers on his cheek, Jin Beizhou grinned uncontrollably. He darted in front of her, bent down, and swept her into his arms.
“Jin Qiuqiu is coming, isn’t she?”
“…” Lu Ying, still struggling with all four limbs, abruptly froze. A fresh wave of anger swept over her. “Her name is Lu Jiuyue!”
