The Little Spoiled Brat Divorces with a Child, Driving the Big Boss Crazy - Chapter 64
Chapter 64
Now that she knew Chen Qi had a younger brother with the same tattoo on the back of his hand, Lu Ying had essentially narrowed down her suspect.
But she still wasn’t sure whether Chen Qi had been involved.
He was simply too open about everything.
She had no grievance with Chen Zheng. What possible motive could he have had?
Chen Qi drove her back to Caotang. “Something on your mind?”
“Hm?” Lu Ying returned to her senses. “No.”
Chen Qi was too much of a gentleman to pry into someone else’s private affairs. “I enjoy Go as well. We could play a couple of matches when we have time.”
“…Spare me.” Lu Ying slumped dejectedly. “At my level, I can only teach kindergarteners who haven’t even learned the basics.”
Chen Qi smiled. “Don’t underestimate yourself. Teaching young children is hardly easy.”
Lu Ying perked up. “If you have children in your family, send them to us. I’ll give you the friends-and-family rate.”
“I look forward to that day,” Chen Qi said warmly. “Unfortunately, my brother and I are both still single.”
At last, the conversation had returned to Chen Zheng. Lu Ying followed the thread. “How many years apart are you?”
“Two.”
“What does your brother do?” Lu Ying asked. “Is he in Beicheng too?”
Chen Qi couldn’t help laughing. “Him? He sells oil.”
“…” Lu Ying stared at him in disbelief. “Seriously?”
“Seriously,” Chen Qi said. “His boss made his fortune in arms dealing. Later, he decided he wanted to live like an ordinary person, so he drilled the oil fields his family owned. Now he sells a little oil and lives a quiet life.”
“…”
The car stopped beneath a bright streetlight.
Chen Qi looked at her.
Their eyes met for half a second before he laughed again. “It’s true. I never lie.”
“I have nothing to say to you.” Lu Ying pushed open the car door. “Clearly, we have very different definitions of a ‘quiet life.'”
Chen Qi got out after her. “Opening the car door for a lady is a gentleman’s responsibility…”
Lu Ying waved him away. “I have nothing to say to Middle Eastern princes who sell oil.”
Chen Qi’s laughter echoed through the night.
Just before going inside, Lu Ying pursed her lips and looked back. “Jin Beizhou… my obnoxious ex-husband. He’s very good at Go. You can invite him to play.”
There were many things Lu Ying couldn’t conveniently do while pregnant. Since Jin Beizhou wanted to investigate, she might as well give him a push.
Jin Beizhou was an excellent Go player. Even her grandfather had acknowledged his skill.
When the two of them were in third grade, Lu Ying had still been struggling to reach amateur first dan while Jin Beizhou easily passed the fourth-dan examination.
They had studied together under her grandfather. Lu Ying often cried because she couldn’t memorize the game records. Jin Beizhou would watch her and laugh, unable to understand how she could treat the intricate strategies of a Go board like a school text to be recited by rote.
Later, he had too many other things to learn. Go was never his main pursuit; it was more like something he did to keep her company. Once he reached fourth dan, he stopped advancing.
Chen Qi answered good-naturedly, “I certainly will. I only wonder whether President Jin will honor me with a game.”
“He will,” Lu Ying said. “Don’t be too polite with him. That man can turn shamelessness into a full-blooming art form.”
“…”
–
March Go Academy was in its slow season. Weekdays were especially quiet, so Lu Ying spent most of her time at the front desk, gossiping with the young receptionist and greeting parents who came to ask about classes.
The receptionist was named Wenwen. Holding an open container of hawthorn cake, she asked miserably, “Can I still eat hawthorn cake if it has a little mold on it?”
Lu Ying kept her eyes on the computer. “That depends on whether you’ve already spent this month’s salary.”
“…” Wenwen considered that in silence. “Then I’d better eat it.”
Decision made, she offered it enthusiastically. “Boss Sis, have a bite. It’s completely natural.”
Lu Ying stared at her. “What do you mean, Boss Sis?”
Wenwen explained, “Boss’s older sister. Boss Sis.”
“…” Lu Ying choked for several seconds. “No, thank you.”
Wenwen said, “I’ll eat it first. If nothing happens to me, you can try it.”
“No,” Lu Ying said honestly. “It’s hawthorn. I can’t eat it.”
Wenwen looked puzzled. “Boss Sis, are you allergic to hawthorn?”
The corner of Lu Ying’s mouth curved, but she didn’t explain.
Her lower abdomen wasn’t showing clearly yet, and she wore sufficiently loose clothing every day. She had not told anyone at work about her pregnancy for the time being.
The automatic glass doors slid open. Lu Ying instinctively greeted, “Hello, are you here to ask about Go…”
Her voice cut off abruptly.
Confused, Wenwen looked at the wealthy woman in the lobby. “Hello. Who are you looking for?”
“Her.” The woman extended a hand dripping with jewelry and sneered. “Lu Ying.”
It was Yi Xie’s mother, Jin Meimei’s former mother-in-law.
The small academy had no security guards. Mrs. Yi clearly hadn’t come in peace, and Wenwen rose nervously. “Ma’am…”
Lu Ying caught her hand. “There are children having lessons in the classrooms. If you have something to discuss, let’s talk in the office.”
“Pah!” Mrs. Yi cursed. “You’re the one who caused Meimei to lose her baby, aren’t you? Jin Beizhou took the blame for you, didn’t he?”
Lu Ying almost laughed.
What was wrong with all these people?
“Now Meimei has divorced my son,” Mrs. Yi shrieked, “and the Jin Family has fallen out with our Yi Family…”
Lu Ying interrupted, “Stop right there. My surname is Lu. One of your families is named Yi and the other Jin. Could you please go find someone actually responsible?”
“You are the person I came to find! If it weren’t for you, how could I have lost my eldest grandson? If you hadn’t sown discord, how could the Jin Family have fallen out with the Yi Family?”
The commotion grew so loud that several teachers opened their doors and asked, “What’s going on? Do you need help?”
“Everything’s fine,” Lu Ying replied. “Go back to your classes.”
“Everyone, come look!” Mrs. Yi began making a scene. “Look at this vicious little bitch whom heaven ought to strike down…”
Lu Ying brought a thick Go manual down on her.
Mrs. Yi fell abruptly silent like a hen whose neck had been seized.
The blow had stunned her.
The next instant, she returned with even greater force, her voice higher and sharper. “You hit me! Someone like you teaches children? You dared hit me…”
Before she could finish, Lu Ying hoisted the enormous decorative vase sitting unused near the front desk and charged at her.
Mrs. Yi’s face filled with terror. She hurriedly retreated through the doors.
Lu Ying brushed off the vase and casually set it beside the entrance. “It needed a new spot. It didn’t look good on the desk.”
“…”
Afterward, Lu Ying took out her phone, dialed a number, and said, “Come to the academy and clean up the mess you made.”
The call was to Jin Beizhou.
He had caused all of this. Why had anyone come after her?
Jin Beizhou arrived quickly and even dragged Yi Xie along with him.
“She hit me!” Mrs. Yi sobbed. “She actually dared strike an elder!”
Yi Xie wiped his sweat repeatedly. “Mom! Why did you come here?”
Jin Beizhou ignored them and steadied Lu Ying while checking her over. “Are you hurt?”
“She isn’t hurt! I’m the one who’s hurt!” Mrs. Yi cried. “How could she…”
“How could I what? I’m extremely satisfied with myself,” Lu Ying said aggressively. “If you’re dissatisfied, you can go die first.”
“…”
The room fell deathly silent.
At some point, a soft laugh sounded above Lu Ying’s head, indulgent and affectionate.
The smile at Jin Beizhou’s lips deepened as he looked at Yi Xie. “You heard her. Whoever isn’t satisfied can go die.”
“…”
